My husband worked on a dairy farm in N.S. And about 30 years ago I’d help out cleaning after milking, pushing up the feed, getting bales of hay, feeding calves etc. I had 3 little girls and they too got to experience it also. Happy I did when I could. 😊
Jan hello. Haven't commented for about a year (haven't stopped watching) but have viewed you and your family milk cows has to be 50+ times just don't get tired of it, see something new every time. I always leave your site being so thankful for your families commitment to safety, product quality and herd care. Anytime I hear negative comments about farm animals being exploited for human needs I shake my head and advise they give your site a view and then come back to me with the same opinion. Your respect and concern for the cows welfare is totally evident, not pets but not just cows either. Since my very first view of your site I've never reached for a carton of milk or dairy product without thinking of your farm. Farming (grains, sugar beets and beef cattle) runs in my wife's family in Southwestern Manitoba. Have experienced first hand the commitment they make to their farms and even they comment on the level of commitment a dairy operation requires. Must admit I was born and raised on the Canadian Prairies in a city 10 minutes from the closest farm and until I met my wife had almost zero foot time on a farm. Even before we wed it was just assumed I was available to assist during seeding and harvesting seasons, that's just how it is and 30 years later I remain the beneficiary. Just love getting that call telling me where and when to start making my contribution. The public in Canada have no idea how fortunate they are when it comes to the quality and safety of our food system with the largest part of that responsibility residing with our farmers. Thanks.
Wow great comment for a city slicker to an on-call farm worker. What a life being on the tractor or other equipment and enjoying the sites, occasional wildlife and while making a extremely valuable contribution to the farm during their busiest seasons. They depend on you as much as the sun that comes up in the morning, to breath new life into their operations and help with their physical and mental relief as a farmer.
Love it. I grew up and farmed back in the 50’s and 60’s, when AI began and more attention was paid to dairy characteristics. I can see that Your udders and conformation now typify what we were breeding for. Uniformity. It worked, eventually. . Wonderful herd, and production. Thanks.
Dairy farmers aren’t the only hardest working people cause we have to include farmers who grow crop for human consumption. Without them you don’t eat. Plus all the men & women who risk their lives transporting all the food items to the warehouses to get distributed by other men & women. And we must include the ranchers who provide the different meats that you eat throughout the year...
@@cowboyupnow63 I'm positive that they weren't saying that any farmers were not hard working. The point of what they said is that there's not any other type of farmer that is up and going at 4:30 in the morning and they're doing the same thing every day, 365 days a year. Row crop farmers have down time in the year. Truck drivers don't run every day. You ask most any farmer and they'll tell you that dairy farmers are definitely the hardest working of the farmers. There's a saying, "You can tell a dairy farmer because they've always got bags under their eyes as big as their cows udders"
I think you just thoroughly trained 14,000+ subscribers how to properly operate your miling system. And thank you Dad for being the Camwera Man, well done 🚜 🚜 🚜🐄🐄🐄🐄 🚜 🚜 🚜 X 5
Our daughter who will be 2 this month is absolutely OBSESSED with you and your videos, she watches them over and over cows in them or not. She will grab our phones or laptop and say "moos moos okay" and settles in to watch.
Hey Jan, I love how you explain everything from beginning, middle, and end. This way you have a better understanding on how things work on a dairy farm. So whats next for SDK keep up the good work and see you in the next video🤔🐄😉
As a guy milked, managed cows here in the UK and understands all the milking process, how ADF works, pulsation and vacuum for milking cows, flow rates for the milk cluster removal, etc, etc. There's way more to it than Jan's easy explanation for people on here, believe me. Same as all dairy farming- there's a lot people don't see or understand how the whole complex operation of calving cows, feeding them thro a year, getting them in calf, preventative illnesses or problems- and I could go on for hours lol
I love my temperamental Jerseys, but you've really upped my interest in Holsteins. Y'all's girls have such beautiful coats ... A huge benefit of both sand and good nutrition.
Your jersey’s are blessed with brains, Holsteins seem to be so extremely bred that they have become simple souls in the process. I have been rearing dairy calves for a neighbour and find the British Friesians well mannered and sensible. Yes the Jerseys can be a bit naughty.
Youn. Thank You very much for the videos It is great to walk along with you in the Dary farm. Please Take Care of your self Plus Be Very Care Full around all Farm Equipment. 🎄🤗😊😁🎄
better to call the switch a Fail Safe -- great informational video, so non farming type folks can learn by sight where milk comes from and how it's handled on the farm
great job explaining the milking process on your farm Jan. When I was your age we milked 50 cows and thought we were no 1. My prediction is that you will have a rotary parlor within 5 years, I worked in one 30 years ago and it was fantastic for people and cows . The future I say.
It appears - Nothing like the best of product for our customers from a conscientious Canadian dairyman. Neline also show her best work feeding and caring the calves in her videos 'A dairy on the Prairie'.
The milking parlor reminds me of getting on a roller coaster at the amusement park (except for the milking part!). And the cows are about the size of most people that get on as well.
That was a really interesting video, you really explain things so well for those of us that don’t know the terms/procedures. You show such a great passion for your job, I know you were born and raised in the industry, but it’s been YOUR choice to continue with such passion and dedication. Keep up the great work Jan. 👍
Jan, I have enjoyed all your videos. But now you have big competition! Yes, Neline has her own channel and she is very good! But your videos are very good and evidence a lot of hard work and good thinking on your part. For a young man you are a very bright and a hard worker. Your parents must be very proud of all their children!
Good evening from Hungary. Thank you for another great video Great explanation how everything works. My son in law does install DeLaval milking robots for more than 25 years in the Netherlands
Jan you have an amazing operation there. And you have an equally amazing ability to explain it to us. Your videos are really great to watch and your Dad is also a great cameraman.
Your explanation is on another level, u make us understand well.. I never want to miss your video, I always enjoy watchin and learning more about dairy farming.. Please make those videos longer..
Jan this was one of the best videos yet. I have seen your milking process on video many times before but this was the best ever. Quality of whatever camera you are using was excellent... your explanations of every aspect were superb. I never tire of watching this process, but this was awesome quality.
Brilliant video Jan, as always! Very informative Thanks for sharing! You farm should be proud. I look forward to each video and absolutely love your introduction showing the barns exterior by drone, so epic! ~Tracy
Jan, great job on this video. I do have a question. Do the cows get to spend any time outside? If so how do you know which ones? Thanks keep up the great work.
Nice overview of the milking process - do you put the warm milk right in to the bulk tank? I thought there would be a cooling unit so the milk in the tank doesn't get warmed.
Very smooth, Dutch Boy! 141K really flying for a dairy channel. Playing the location and weather situation well. Wearing the Hoodie over the bulky Carhartt makes you look like most people who gained weight in the pandemic! Working like you do, you will live to be 120 years old and never be sick.

Thanks for another nice video Jan! I have been working on a dairy farm here in Denmark, and we almost did as you guys do :) Our equipment was now as new as yours, but most of the systems are the same - I really like watching and following you and your family - Costa and Dima too :-)
It's amazing how much milk a holstein and produce ... a calve would gorge itself and die of bloat in a matter of days ... It would be interesting to see how often genetics track with production
Wow, that is some very nice system you have going on there, so automated and clean, the cows too seem so well behaved and compliant, know exactly where and when to walk stand turn and leave, amazing. Your nice blue floor though is getting stained, and that flush water looks pretty nasty as it spews out from the valve under the floor. You all work extremely hard, very impressive and a wonderful set up, your explanation comes across crystal clear you obviously know what you are about, well done, nice camera work too.
Jan, your explanation to a nondairy person is so informative. Your cadence on speaking makes your explanations crystal clear. Nice job!

3 time a day at some other farms, impressive

Jan, in your old milking parlor you milked the cow from the side. In the new milking parlor you milk from the rear. Which do you prefer and why?
Do you get your water from a well? If so how deep is it to the water?
Do cows like to get milked? That’s what it seems like, I mean they run toward the milking parlor like they know what’s coming without a treat.
So fascinating!! Thanks for the lesson. Peace from SW Florida 🤗🤗!!
