Check the insides of brake discs if you’ve been using a Hand Car Wash! I had an old car cleaned once a week and over the space of six months they ruined all 4 discs, I presume by using Brick Acid instead of proper wheel cleaner. Outsides of the discs and pads were perfect but the insides were completely knackered, looked like the surface of the moon, pads also disintegrated on insides. They obviously didn’t spend enough time rinsing it off thoroughly.
Odd, if they used anything it would have not been sprayed on the inner/rear side of the rotor. It would be quite unusual to be able to spray unless wheels were off. But stranger things have happened
@@MyGuyKirby I don’t think it’s massive amounts that have reached that area, I just think the run off from the initial spray has run down the back and then never been rinsed back off properly like the fronts so over time the acid had not only eaten into the discs but made the inner pads crumble too. I’m not saying you can’t clean wheels with an acid cleaner but you got to rinse it off pretty sharpish afterwards. Hi Catherine! You wouldn’t want to clay bar over the paintwork as this will cause marring which puts you back to square one where you will need to polish the car. If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
This looks great but I can imagine it cost the same price as a full car service and to think you need too clean your car at least once a month, I think I will stick with the Valet I get, which cost me 50 pounds
I’m guessing but I don’t think you wouldn’t get much change out of £600. That was a pretty intense detail/stage 3 polish/ceramic coating including the Wheels. I paid £350 and that was for a Stage 3 polish with a in-depth detail inside and out and that was a couple of Years ago !. Don’t forget for that sort of Job your Car is going to need to have to Stay in the Workshop for a day or two to ensure that the Ceramic Coating has Cured, don’t be lulled into these detailers who say they can do it on your driveway ( unless they use a big tent ) over your vehicle and it will only take them a few hours !!!. That Stage 3 polishing is for minor defects like light swirling/hazing and very minor scratches. If they say it’s going to need Stage 2 or Stage 1 you can say goodbye to your Car for a Week and of course the Cost is going to go up ⬆️. It all depends on what sort of damage the car wash has done and how many times it has been through the Hand Car washes !. I use the 2 bucket method but you have to decontaminate the paintwork from Road and brake debris and then use a Clay Bar. It takes me about 3 hours to do the outside and then a hour to do the inside. I don’t have ceramic coating on mine but I do use a good quality Wax and then polish 🤷♂️.

Hi Gordon it’s always best to get your car detailed and protected before taking delivery and the owner of this did exactly that. But I’m a moment of madness used a roadside hand car wash which caused the defects you see in the video.
Hey Bikeman! That’s definitely not an ideal way to find that out. We’ve seen cases like this from our customers plenty of times and unfortunately this is the damage some hand car washes can cause. Hope you got everything sorted and thankyou for leaving a comment!

Hi Rob! We’re surprised to see a lot of people taking this stance. He regularly uses this as a work horse for towing etc so it definitely gets used! If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
Hi Andrew, we’re surprised a lot of people are taking this stance. It has nothing to do with the car getting dirty as it regularly does and thanks to coatings it’s a breeze to get looking new again. On this occasion he used a hand car wash with poor wash techniques which caused damage to the paintwork hence needing a detail again. If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
It not destroyed and not all hand car washes are bad some really car about car and how the clean. All chemicals are harsh they have to be even your citrus pre clean is a harsh chemical so do come the higher than mighty .
It looked remarkably well for a vehicle that had been 'destroyed'. Land Rovers are very good at destroying themselves, they usually don't need outside assistance from hand car washes.
So does that mean it hadn't been touched since bodge it and flog it mullered it around new year? Maybe the owner should invest in a couple of buckets 🪣 with grit guards and a selection of the superb NLD products and do the maintenance washes himself! Maybe that's an idea for a video.... what does a good maintenance wash look like when you don't have much time and your favourite detailer is closed? 😂
Hey Ian! This car had been driven since the hand car wash however it wasn't washed again until we got our hands on it which is where you see us prep it in the video! Not watched the channel before but assume that the defender had a ceramic coating from new so what is the point if it does not even protect the paint from a dodgy hand wash?
Hi Stephen! Make sure you're subscribed if this is your first time watching🙌 Cars do not get protected from factory with a ceramic coating and they're not there to protect your paintwork from poor wash techinques used by hand car washes. A ceramic coating is there to boost the gloss levels of your car, reduce the amount of dirt and grime that will stick to the car and also reduce the amount of time it takes to wash your car. If you have any other questions feel free to let us know.
@@NewlookdetailingUk sorry I meant I assume you had already ceramic coated the car from new. Understood re the function of the ceramic coat, I was under the impression that they did offer a degree of scratch resistance. I have never really found that cars are easier to clean or more resistant to getting dirty though so perhaps it is time to try PPF. I will definitely subscribe as I can no doubt learn a lot from your channel. Thanks for the helpful and informative response.
What is the point of this intense and expensive cleaning when half a mile in the rain and the car is filthy again! You must be laughing your socks off.
a Defender isn't for driving in the city or cleaning by city boys who think they should be cleaned every week and not speck of dust may get on the car 😂
No one around here offers that level for that little, cheapest a highly rated detail shop will touch any car for is $500 and SUV is $600 and that is for a in and out detail - even dealerships are at least $350-400
@Porkchop Sandwiches so you pay the some hundred for the ultra detailing which lasts a long time, then you pay the from 20 for the more regular quick detailing. It's pretty obvious.
@@Freedommonk what I was saying is here they don’t offer that - here it’s either a car wash where a hand wash is $50 or detail which is $300 or a pro detailer which is $500 and up - all you can get for $20 here is automated wash machines
OK we get it you don't need to keep repeating destroyed this urban - it isn't destroyed is it - doors still on windows intact bonnet not blown up so destryed is a bit dramatic -
I agree, at the end of the day its a Defender, the way its been washed within reason will not make difference to the resale valve, dealerships just look at bents, mileage, servicing history, and give you the lowest price, so they can make a profit, then their showroom car washer person will then wash it on their forecourt, so whats the difference.
Hi DADDY&ME, Thanks for the comment! Apologies we didn’t go into enough detail about the damage that hand car washes can cause. This maybe something we can release in the future to educate a lot more people. If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
It doesn’t need to be professionally washed just carefully, especially if you have gone to the effort or getting it detailed and protected. He is a very good client and friend and it was agreed prior to fixing the damage and filming the video.
Absolutely. this is standard practice to ensure no polishing oils are masking defects and to ensure the best bond between the paint and the coating. Great question 👍
I used to wash cars all day long in a car park in Bristol and nobody ever complained and paid up every time. I used to do valeting for a Mercedes/VW/ Audi dealership, a Volvo dealers, BMW too. I did get pulled up by pedantic customers and always rectified the problem without question. Keep the customer happy, that is the key. I looked after 2 Ferraris, a Lambo, 2 Mercedes Grossers and some other odd cars for 1 man. So I have plenty of experience and know what you are on about but most punters just want the car cleaned.
Hi Pablo this isn't true at all unfortunatley. Scratches on paintwork can very easily be caused whether that be from a sponge or cloth. If there is any dirt in the water they use (there usually is) or any remaining on their sponges or cloths these will cause scratches to your paintwork. We will have to do another video fully explaining the reasons you shouldn't use them. If you have any other questions let us know.
It's a car, not a mantlepiece. You spend 5hrs cleaning it, and the second you drive out of the building a bird will most likely schitt on it. I wouldn't even give this level of care to a Rolls Royce Phantom.
So, having wasted a shed load of money getting your overpriced car ceramic coated, you're tied into the high-price car cleaning industry to get it cleaned for ever more. No thanks. I used to get my SVR cleaned by O2 in Birmingham's Bullring underground car park - they did an excellent job each time, and I even had them clay-bar treat it on one occasion which gave it an excellent clean. However, at over £100 a pop, I wasn't going to get this done every week, so it spent most of its time either dirty, or getting cleaned at a local, reputable but cheap hand car wash. The next time I took it to O2, on inspecting it when I got home, there were large areas in panel gap areas where no attempt had been made to clean off the initial dirt, so it will never be going back there again. I cannot help noticing that you showed the damage to the Defender without explaining exactly what the damage was, so I'm assuming it's the scratches showing up under the intense local light source. However, these were clearly done by a rotary polisher, and I've never seen a hand car wash use one of those. And how come you didn't re-inspect the surface after you had used a rotary polisher on it? Either that, or explain why using a hand car wash on a ceramic coated car is problematic.
Hi there Simon, appreciate the comment! With a ceramic coating you are not tied into any high end washing service. It’s all about informing the customer on the correct ways to maintain their coated car. We offer all our customers to watch us safely wash their car so they can see how to correctly do it and if they don’t want to we offer maintenance services or even recommend local mobile valeter for them. Apologies for not showing the paintwork after the correction but you can see from the reflections that the paintwork is spotless. The damage caused wasn’t from a rotary machine, it was caused by poor wash techniques at the local hand car wash. If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
Great detail and paint correction but it’s ridiculous to say he ruined the car by hand washing. Look at it this way……this obsessed individual is creating repeat business for you.
It’s not self serving at all. One must remove tires to do a proper cleaning. Should I remove the engine to ‘properly’ clean the bay too? Just like those PPF guys who have convinced so many that they need protection from the road to the point where windshields are being PPFd. Maybe everyone should get their tires cleaned professionally by these guys everyday. The private schooling of their kids won’t pay by themselves.
Well obviously you would say this. Plus your claim of car wash damage remains unproven. Yes there is damage, but you have shown no proof of how it happened.
Hey there! We couldn’t physically show you the car being damaged at the car wash however it’s well known and proven that they use very poor wash techniques, dirty water, heavily acidic products etc which will damage your car. If you check out the first video we did on the Defender you will see the condition it was in once we finished working on it and then we show the imperfections on the car shortly after visiting the hand car wash. If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve the video feel free to let us know!
Hi There Pete, the equipment may be similar to a hand car wash but that isn't what causes the issue. The issue starts with the poor wash techniques they use and the very harsh chemicals they spray over your car. Thanks!
Hey there P A, the car does get dirty regularly as it’s used as a work horse and thanks to the coatings it’s a breeze to get looking brand new again. However the issue on this incident was the poor wash techniques used by hand car washes which will damage your car! If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
Jeez, seriously just how often would such a clean take place, clearly without doubt costing quite a few bucks for such a hand car wash, not your average car wash for sure, this is most definitely not so much why you should not use your average hand car wash, this is absolutely without doubt one big borefest of a advert for this guys car wash cleaning products etc etc and his business, not really any such reasons why we should all avoid the average hand car wash !!!!
Hi Wills Restorations, it’s a shame that you think this and we can assure you that ceramic coatings are not BS… they serve their purpose very well if you know what they are and aren’t supposed to do. Thanks for watching the video and if you have any questions let us know.

Harder than cars that are 2 days old 😂 but just as rewarding when we get to see how happy it makes our customers
What's it matter 2 or 22 years old, still need cleaning don't they.
just went to the hand car wash, feel regretful
😂 never ceases to amaze me the people with all the money don't even know how to wash a car correctly. What a waste
This looks great but I can imagine it cost the same price as a full car service and to think you need too clean your car at least once a month, I think I will stick with the Valet I get, which cost me 50 pounds
How much for the full process including ceramic coating?
Utter waste of money that'll last five minutes
Great video and you've got yourself a new subscriber...😎 Do you sell the wax is dead ultimate ceramic coating...?? Thanks 👍🏻😎
Hi Adam thanks for leaving a comment, glad you enjoyed the video!🙌 Unfortunatley we aren't able to sell the Wax Is Dead Ultimate coating as this is their proffesional grade product however they do sell a brilliant ceramic that enthusiasts can use which is called quickcure and will give you up to 18 months durability!
Make sure your subscribed and if you do have any other questions feel free to ask.
Thanks,
NLD
@New Look Detailing LTD thanks for your reply I currently treated my car armour shield 9 but I'm just wondering if you've got anything that last longer than 18 months?? I have subscribed... Thanks
So are you saying don’t get it washed, wait and just get it detailed every time it gets dirty?
Hey there Mark, that’s that we’re saying at all! A lot of our customers choose to maintain their car themselves and after we show them the correct safe washing techniques there car will stay the way it left us for years to come. Also a lot of our customers choose to use us to maintain their car to ensure the correct washing techniques are maintained.
The issue isn’t washing the car it’s just having the correct knowledge to safely wash your car.
If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
Can I ask the brand and model of the little handheld polisheryou used on rear wheel cover please 🙏🏻👍🏻
Hi There Kathryn, The small polisher is called the Flex tools PXE80. if you're interested there is a video on the channel of us reviewing it.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
Thanks
Wouldn't it be better to go to these lengths of coating BEFORE taking delivery?
Hi Gordon it’s always best to get your car detailed and protected before taking delivery and the owner of this did exactly that. But I’m a moment of madness used a roadside hand car wash which caused the defects you see in the video.
Where is this damage exactly?
By the looks of them swirl marks that aint a one off £10 hand car wash causing all that ! Not knocking your work at all looks fantastic
I found out my car had had a front wnd respray when a careless car wash guy with a jetwash took off some of the clearcoat. 😢
Hey Bikeman! That’s definitely not an ideal way to find that out. We’ve seen cases like this from our customers plenty of times and unfortunately this is the damage some hand car washes can cause.
Hope you got everything sorted and thankyou for leaving a comment!
How much !
All our packages are bespoke to the clients exact requirements. Our 10 year package starts from £1495+vat. This is of course subject to vehicle condition, size and other factors that may differ between clients needs
@@NewlookdetailingUk good luck
But its an off road vehicle?
Hi Rob! We’re surprised to see a lot of people taking this stance. The owner takes pride in the appearance of the vehicle hence after realising his mistake of visiting a hand car wash paying to get it corrected and protected again. He regularly uses this as a work horse for towing etc so it definitely gets used!
If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
No, it's a new Defender, not to be confused with an older Defender. The new ones are mainly for people buying into a lifestyle.
its a defender ?
its supposed to be covered in mud ?
Hi Andrew, we’re surprised a lot of people are taking this stance. It has nothing to do with the car getting dirty as it regularly does and thanks to coatings it’s a breeze to get looking new again. On this occasion he used a hand car wash with poor wash techniques which caused damage to the paintwork hence needing a detail again.
If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
Mint !!💪🏻💪🏻
This must be a very expensive detail- how long did it take?
This level of service usually takes about 4 days to complete
Use a sponge and fairy liquid with like warm water...
Fairy liquid contains salt. I'll strip the wax coat and could cause paint chips to rust.
We religiously maintain this car for him and after this experiance he definitley won't be making that mistake again!😅
Love the suggestion for the video, you may end up seeing it on the channel soon!👀
Thanks,
NLD
Exactly, they look better grubby anyway
a Defender isn't for driving in the city or cleaning by city boys who think they should be cleaned every week and not speck of dust may get on the car 😂
the hand wash was £10, how much was yours
Our service wash is from £20 but the cost to restore after that £10 road side wash was certainly a lesson for our client
@@porkchopsandwiches8363 ahh ok, got ya 👍 $50 though still for a hand-wash. I need to be in that job 😄
So I watched this entire video to find out why not to take your car to the hand car wash and didn’t say anything about 🤦
Hi DADDY&ME, Thanks for the comment! Apologies we didn’t go into enough detail about the damage that hand car washes can cause. This maybe something we can release in the future to educate a lot more people.
If you have any other questions or suggestions feel free to let us know!
Are you guys suggesting that cars only ever be professionally cleaned? Are you guys actually calling one of your customers an idiot on UA-cam?
It doesn’t need to be professionally washed just carefully, especially if you have gone to the effort or getting it detailed and protected.
He is a very good client and friend and it was agreed prior to fixing the damage and filming the video.
Those hand car wash guys can clean the inside of my car not the outside
Did you do an alcohol wipe down after the machine polish before applying the ceramic coating?
Absolutely. this is standard practice to ensure no polishing oils are masking defects and to ensure the best bond between the paint and the coating. Great question 👍
@@NewlookdetailingUk Good to know, looked a great job you did. That defender was amazing looking afterwards.
Correct, we all don't have 300 pounds to get our car cleaned.
Why
wow - thats one rusty looking hub
They’re swirl marks from an industrial car wash not a hand car wash. No TFR, sponges or clothes produce them scratch marks on paintwork.
What a waste of effort on a Defender. And all the chemicals used go straight into the gully polluting the groundwater.
It's a car, not a mantlepiece.
You spend 5hrs cleaning it, and the second you drive out of the building a bird will most likely schitt on it.
I wouldn't even give this level of care to a Rolls Royce Phantom.
What’s the point in doing all that when the thieves are having eyes on it. Leave it look like old 1% less chance will not stealing it.😂😂😂
So, having wasted a shed load of money getting your overpriced car ceramic coated, you're tied into the high-price car cleaning industry to get it cleaned for ever more.
Destroyed? Where was the destruction? Ffs. I remember when Defender owners were practical people and Defenders were a practical car.
I wouldn't let you remove my wheels.
It's laughable isn't it? I love cars, always have but this is getting silly now.
You missed a spot!
Id hardly use the word destroyed...
Using to Jack’s with wheels shows everything that we need to know… you have no idea what you’re doing…
Why you shouldn’t use hand car washes ,,,, THEN STARTS WASHING SAID CAR WITH THE SAME EQUIPMENT HAND CAR WASHES USE 😂😂😂😂
Hi There Pete, the equipment may be similar to a hand car wash but that isn't what causes the issue. The issue starts with the poor wash techniques they use and the very harsh chemicals they spray over your car. Thanks!
Rediculous really, mind out for puddles so your Defender doesn't get dirty...
Nice, blacks tell it all
Looked way better before you cleaned it....nothing worse than a shiny black urban trash Defender. Nothing against you chaos just my opinion.
Waste of time paint correcting a Rover. It'll break in one month.
Never use them never will.. they use brake cleaner acid on the wheels..
Stating the obvious is your thing eh. It's still ludicrous and I am still alllowed my opinion unless you know of a law that says I'm not.
Wax is dead and so was the BS ceramic coating you use
Hi Wills Restorations, it’s a shame that you think this and we can assure you that ceramic coatings are not BS… they serve their purpose very well if you know what they are and aren’t supposed to do.
Thanks for watching the video and if you have any questions let us know.
@@NewlookdetailingUk I did not say that all ceramic coatings are BS
As I am certified with Gtechniq. These days everyone's making a ceramic coating and most of them fall short and are nothing but a Money grab
The thing is, people dont want to pay you £300 to wash their car mate. Nor should they.
£300 would be great profit for a wash but we only charge on average £35 for our maintenance wash 👍
Yeah, never again, local hand wash took the laqure off part of front wing by using pressure washer too close.
As a painter with 40 years experience I'd say the panel had been refinished poorly, factory paint doesn't come off with a pressure washer, take a look at the PDR technicians pulling dents out with tabs hot glued to the lacquer.
@@andicog it was seagull shit that got baked on with last year's heatwave, rather than covering with car wash shampoo to loosen it for a while they must have had the pressure washer as close to the nozzle, I had left them with it while on business.
