      @crashtefano  6 років тому +6

      That's so unfair... Well, Sonic is very popular, of course, it has a much bigger fanbase than Klonoa. By the way, that's quantity vs quality

      is what i meant, there are lot of masterpieces that are forgotten like that, i do admit i´m fan of Sonic series, Klonoa lacks of a good fan base for even make the anime movie, in simple words, no fans no money and that´s not business for Namco.
      By the way, does anyone tried to make Klonoa avatar in Sonic Forces?

    It's all about 54:16 for me. I'll be honest, I'm 28 and I played this when I was maybe 10 or something - I don't thing any game has come close to carry as much emotion as this game did to me. It was so short as well, which makes it all the more impressive that we grew to know the characters so quickly.

    Might be the only game I can remember fondly playing while I was 5. Gladius and Joka both gave me nightmares, but when I listen back to the OST now I always remember back in the 90's when I played Klonoa with my mom, my dad was cancerfree and I was genuinely happy and innocent...

      Seven Sages Anonydeath Impressed XD The ghost ship is great, but also possibly the hardest level in the game. Oh, yeah, Karl Sturngard! He is one of my favourite characters in the Hall of Heroes

    I’ll admit that my tastes in music tend to be on the darker and brooding variety. I love the steady action music of Hitoshi Sakimoto, Masashi Hamauzu’s use of creative dissonance, and battle themes in general. There comes a time, though, when you experience something so cheerful, so absolutely adorable that you can’t help but love it. That would be where Klonoa: Door to Phantomile comes in. There is that ‘cute factor’ on nearly every piece of this album that should, in theory, become tiring very quickly, but under further examination, it turns out that these are not just shallow, cheesy pieces. There is a lot of musical depth to this score, which holds up to repeated listens and has the power to bring a smile to anyone’s face. There is quite a plethora of composers from this title, but the styles are not so different as, say, the trio on Final Fantasy X, that it distracts; instead, each composer contributes something to the complete whole of this score that I can barely tell the difference when a piece is composed by one composer over another.
    To bring back Hamauzu from the last paragraph, the first piece on the album is actually reminiscent of some of Hamauzu’s more simplistic piano pieces (specifically “DG - Sadness” from Unlimited SaGa). Short and lovely and surprisingly memorable and emotional for being just barely over 20 seconds in length. It presents a theme that will come back in the score quite a few times. After this track comes the onslaught of pure joy: “Inquisitive Waltz” 00:00:27 is actually probably one of the more cheery tracks on the album. This little waltz keeps up a constant motion and is scored for all manners of chimes and accordions. The same theme is found a few tracks later in “The Windmill Song” 4:47 This is one of the tracks that, in a sense, epitomizes this album. The instrumentation in this track becomes very typical for the rest of the score: guitars, percussion, and woodwinds, usually recorders. There’s also another instrument used here that sounds rather like a whistle or theremin; it too becomes used quite often in the album. “The Ruin’s Air” is another example of this melody and quite an interesting one. The piece alternates regularly between peaceful and happy and discordant and anxious, with the typical instrumentation of winds, guitars, and percussion.
    "Melancholy Soldier” is, ironically, another incredibly cheery song on the album consisting of pizzicato strings before some awesome piano, strings, and chimes come in and create a wonderfully beautiful, uplifting atmosphere. Another oddly upbeat track is “Weeping Karal”. It’s slightly jazzy in its rhythmic melody, performed by the theremin and chimes, and with some light percussion, including snapping, furthering the jazzy atmosphere. More cheery tracks come up in the form of “Forlock Twist” and “Truck a Go Go”. The former is perhaps the most percussive track on the soundtrack. There is much ethnic percussion, shaking and rattling away, but even the woodwinds are used in a percussive manner, and there is something akin to a hammer dulcimer used here. “Truck a Go Go” is just one those tracks that is like, for instance, the infamous “Kumbaya” lullaby, in that you just want to sway with its blissful waltz motion. The melody is heard by recorder, at first descending, then ascending, constantly alternating and becoming increasingly faster until it ends abruptly. “Balue & Lephise” is another interesting track. There is a rather heavy beat kept during the whole track while a kind of rock feel begins to develop, only to be overtaken by more adorable sounding chimes, which eventually end the track.

    I'm a huge fan of the 1st one and in my opinion, it has been the best of them all.
    And I'm talking about the one from PSOne, not the remastered for the Wii. They fucked up the title (the original logo was better) AND they fucked up the voices. Why the fuck would they be speaking full sentences? They sound horrible. In fact, the english dub is to blame for modifying Klonoa's classic shout when he uses an enemy to double jump. It sounds awful.

      Thankfully you can change the language back to Phantomilian in the settings. Still doesn't excuse the fact that they screwed up the dialogue by making Huepow do all the talking, or the poor attempts to recreate the beautiful FMVs (Which still hold up to this day) in real-time using the game's engine, but oh well. Maybe someday Door to Phantomile will get the remake it deserves.

    3:33 Don't you think it's kind of strange? How sometimes when you wake up, you know you had a dream, but you can't remember it. Where do you suppose those dreams go? But there's one dream I Remember very clearly, as if it was happening right now.

    Man,my relation whit this masterpiece is very weird.I am 14 years old.Where i live,there is or there was a technology delay of 10 years aproxymately,so when everybody in the north where feeling the PlayStation 3 closer and closer back in 2005,my dad gave me a PlayStation,and i felt so lucky,playing Crach Bandicoot 3,Spyro the dragon,Rayman the great escape,all pirated games,because my dad is such a greedy one,but my true love was and it will be this game,for the rest of my life.

      Yeah, the Klonoa games are great. I'm in my twenties and I still have extremely fond memories of the games, very well designed from level design to sound and visuals, as well as a strangely powerful and moving storyline for the kind of game it is.

    around '05 i only had a psx, when my friends all had ps2s. if i recall correctly, my console was even borrowed. thank god for that tho, i got to play so many great games, incluiding this one. i think i got stuck at joka's boss battle, after that i had to return the psx. i've been rediscovering this games lately, tho. finnaly finished this one, and lunatea's veil too. truly one of the best games i've ever played. sad this game is so overlooked.

    The ending is what made Klonoa so memorable. I thought it was perfect, because it wasn't sad just for being sad, it showed that however things happened, you had to move on. Being happy while remembering what you went through is more important than being sad for when it ended.
    This is why Klonoa has a special place in my top 5 games list.
