Probably that it's effectively a high damage party-friendly AoE. You can drop that in the middle of a mixed melee without a care in the world and hit a TON of enemies. Fire Snake and Stormbolts are the only other spells I know in Owlcat games so far that are similar, but Fire Snake is a column and Stormbolts is self-centered.
Another little known fact is that Chain Lightning is uncapped. So if you go elemental full caster + Lich or Angel you can up your caster level to 29 with the merged spellbooks, and chain lightning will scale with you. Unlike most damage spells which are level capped.
Getting ready to finally commit to a full playthrough and have been struggling to find a quality lightning build and I found your channel and this video is amazing! You also had a spreadsheet which is just sooo helpful THANK YOU SO MUCH
Hi Slandered! Just found your channel, and I’m really digging these custom builds based on characters from other pop culture universes. I love the tidbits of canonical backstory you drop and how they impact every level’s decision-making. Definitely subscribing, and I’m excited to see any more builds you send our way!
Thanks so much for all the work you put into your builds. Absolutely blown away by the level of detail you provide. And you even have spreadsheets! wow dude, just wow!
PC: "You know what happens to a demon when it's struck by my lightning?" Demon: (Confused look). PC: "The same thing that happens to everything else" [Casts maximised chain lightning (though use of Favoured Metamagic)]. More seriously, don't remember if I've said this before, but I love these 'thematic, character-based' builds that, while still effective, focus on emulating a character more than maximising 'deeps'.
As you said in the video, the pick of 2nd bloodline is up to everone themselves, though i would suggest for draconic blue as it gives bonus to electricity damage instead of cold what silver dragon does. Just for the people that want to get a bit of more ooomph out of the lightning spells. 😉
@@SlanderedGaming Btw, i got a question that has nothing to do with the current video but maybe you can help me out nevertheless: i tried a Nine Tailed Heir Crossblooeded Sorcerer of Arcane Bloodline as one of the picks, shouldnt i get Magic Missile at level 3 for free? Because it shows up in the class overwiev but not in the spellbook when i leveld up to 3. Am i misinterpreting something or is this a bug?
Used a modified version of this build for my playthrough. less thematic but still fun. I went with acid focus instead of lightning, using the earth elemental bloodline ability to make spells do acid damage (so I can keep chain lightning) and then took copper dragon which is appropriate for my chaotic good azata as well as gives a bonus for acid damage. I had a fantastic time
Another great build video. I can never get enough of your pathfinder content. Regarding the actual build, did you consider maybe going into Arcane Trickster? The sneak attack damage would make her rays hit even harder and as far as I know it affects chain lightning too.
You know the point of the Elemental bloodlines is that you can turn ANY energy based damage into your preferred element right? So when you are choosing your 6th level spells you have TWO extremely good damage spells available. Chain Lightning, and Hellfire Ray. Toggle your bloodline Arcana (which costs nothing) and that Hellfire Ray is converted to Electricity damage. And that works for ALL spells the character casts, which is why I pretty much always dip Ember into crossblood sorcerer for one level, choosing Fire Elemental bloodline for the Arcana (which means she converts chain lightning into fire damage), and Gold dragon bloodline for the extra +1 damage per die damage bonus for fire based attacks (which works on the converted damage as well). Yes, she loses a single level of caster level, but you can make that up with items anyway, there are several that add CL.
From optimization point of view, I think human, half-elf, or aasimar would be better. +2 CHA > + 2 INT, and spell resistance is not _that_ big a deal. A human can put their feat into Spell Penetration. As an alternate take on the build - consider Monk (Scaled Fist) 1/Sorc (Silver Dragon/Water Elemental) 15/Dragon Disciple 4. At early levels you dump electric spells on people. At high levels you buff up with geniekind x 4, dracoform, and beat people to death with lightning/multielemental fists (claws)
Agreed. I felt like I used human & Aasimar too often and for whatever reason half-elf doesn't really appeal to me. From a pure optimization standpoint though they are definitely better picks.
This build is very similar to my own. Mine is an asimaar crossblooded with fire elemental and celestial bloodlines. Also he was Azata but later changed to Golden Dragon.
Yes - I AM having a Fantastic Day thanks to your excellent videos. Many thanks. That said - I think you've made a wrong assumption when answering about secondary blood lines. Although not in the description, they DO provide the bloodline arcana feat (at least, for dragons). Tested on 1.3.7d NO Mods. So, you do get the +1 damage per die. Certainly adds up when you start throwing out those ray and chain lightning spells. In addition, you get the other ability to change any energy spell to cold - so you can get the Fire spells (e.g. Fireball and, of course, Hellfire Ray) to vary your damage diet. But, it doesn't stop there, you could go for the Mythic Second Bloodline and, yep, add another dragon for +2 damage per die. So 20d6 Chain Ligtning doing +40 to everything it can reach - anybody like that? Maxed out Hellfire to the Boss for an instant +90 damage. Grandmaster quicken rod for +180 damage before you start any of the real stuff. Then there's Zippy Magic. Yep - works on that. At which point my head starts to hurt trying to work out how much you could reach.
Half-elf kindred starting out with a colossal 22 charisma is probably going to do better than an elf starting out with 18 charisma. For both sorcerers and oracles.

Your secondary bloodline only provides additional spells, nothing else gets added. I chose the silver dragon for the description of their personality which matches Storm.
So from a mechanical standpoint since you get the bloodline arcana of your second bloodline taking blue dragon would be better or the metallic lightning one (bronze I think?)
Mechanically yes but Blue Dragons are known as schemers and strict adherents of law while Metallic Dragons seemed like they are chained to guard one particular place. Neither vibes with who Storm is so I didn't use them.
The easiest way to beat tutorial dungeon is let your main character or lahn to have a class that has animal companion. mage armor+faith shield+protective luck can easily tank most enemies, kite the final cult leader boss and the water elemental, pick demon in the dialogue to skip the second phase at the end. The only challenge is the radiance sword area.Require some save and reload, but not too difficult. And don't pick a useless class for your main character in unfair, some classes cannot beat unfair even you minmax, they are just useless, the only challenge start in the final chapter in threshold , if your team cant right click through everything with 60 buffs, you probably will be stuck there and need to turn down the difficulty

I will say that whatever she felt about the Dora Milaje cannot be far off from Logan's dozens of partners. LOL
@@SlanderedGaming Eh, it's a fair cop... but at least Logan doesn't have them surrounding him while he's with Ororo. You are one of the two most consistent content creators I know for gaming. And Happy Saint Patrick's Day.
@@SlanderedGaming Silver dragon was also sub optimal. For elemental builds you want to match the dragon bloodline with the elemental bloodline. In the case of a lightning build then Bronze dragon for a good aligned character is perfect. Why? Well its about synergy. With a crossblood elemental blaster caster the choice of dragon IS important, its not just a roelplay decision. Silver dragon line is perfect for a water elemental caster as it deals cold damage, as does the water bloodline. The elemental bloodline gives you the ability to convert any energy based spell to your preferred element, the dragon bloodline gives you a +1 damage per die bonus to the damage for the dragons element. So if you want an ice mage, you go water elemental and then either silver or white dragon, for fire you want gold, red or brass dragon, with fire elemental line, for electricity you want bronze or blue dragon with air elemental line. I know +20 damage at level 20 does not sound much, but its still +20 reliable, guaranteed damage in your ascendant element, which means it cannot be blocked....

I loved Storm and T'Challa together but you absolutely make great points about their relationship and it felt true to her character when their time together ended.
I may not agree with all of the choices, but I do respect your takes. I also am amazed at the patience you have getting through this game as often as you have. So kudos my friend.
