I am planning on going on a spring bear hunt. Either Idaho or Montana hopefully. I bought a new rifle to take bear hunting. Browning Xbolt Hells Canyon Speed Long Range 280AI. I topped it a Leupold. A VX6 HD 4x24x52mm TMOA reticle. Ammo question? What type of a bullet like a hornady.
ELD X 162 175 gr
Berger classic hunter 150 168gr.
Nosler Accubond LR 168gr
Or a bullet like a hammer?
Any suggestion on a backpack? It will only be used on this hunt.
This will be my first hunt like this.
In the past we have had great luck with the Nosler Accubonds. We shoot the Hammer Bullets a ton now and they have performed very well. I’d go with a Hammer Bullet personally. Look into the Initial Ascent backpacks. They have the necessary bag space and a great frame to help the pack out. Good luck out there 👊
The way yall talk about Mexico is changing my mind about trying it! Thank you for the insight!
When is Peax coming out with their dynema version of their tent?
I discovered pronghorn last year and am doing an out of state hunt with my wife and oldest kid this year.
I think itll be a great way to get both of them a good introduction to hunting.
Man, I got two kids in college. I need a good budget hunt.
I can’t wait for my spring black bear in Oregon this year. It be been busting my butt in the gym I haven’t touched alcohol in 5 months I’m down 60 lbs watching you guys do these epic hunts are part of my inspiration.
I’d suggest some of the Northern California B zones I know one zone in particular that would be right up your ally I think you guys would really enjoy the hunt there’s lots of bears and great bucks with challenging terrain. Definitely your type of hunting. I would love to see you guys come hunt our blacktails and bears. The wilderness I hunt, shooting a buck can lead to a bear kill it’s like ringing a dinner bell. I’d be more than happy to share my spot if your interested.
I live In northern Nevada and been seriously considering California bear. It’s like $500 or so for me to get a license and a tag. Anywhere near Reno you’d suggest? I’d love to hit the b zones but that’s kinda far for this year
@@Lexidezi225 I’m not too familiar with that area but I have a buddy with family near Susanville that run dogs there’s bears around there I think that would be a good place to start.
Brain thanks for putting the new Zeland hunt on my radar at the Peax Summit! It's on my list!
Didn’t know if you guys have ever consider Doing a javelina hunt ? some thing that’s always been on my bucket list
You can do Africa for 5k. If you don't do mounts. The flight is about 2k. I bet you can't get a Kudu with your bow. Unless you sit on water.
All those animals except zebras can jump the fences. You tell them you want to spot and stalk. Or, bow hunt everything. You may only get 2 animals in 7 days, and you take what presents itself.
Aways walk away with great information from your podcasts..
Thank you! I’m going to turn 61 this year and I’m I live in the Midwest and wanting to start hunting out west and Alaska u 2 give me hope.
My son just become a resident of Colorado. Hoping to do an elk hunt with him some day. Looking forward to the adventure of learning the land.
Thanx
Great info, I have thought about these types of hunts more and more as point creep is taking a toll where I live.
Thanks for the discussion.
Bears in ak depends on the unit but it varries based on area from 1-5 a year. Couple things that dont make sense to non res hunters is how our seasons run. Our tags expire around june, and lisenses the first of the year. So if you come up for a fall hunt and shoot a bear, then want to hunt spring bear the following year you need a new license but your your tags are still good from the fall. However if you shot a bear in the fall you cannot shoot a bear in a one bear a year unit in the spring. Seen some guys last fall come up and tag out on a backpack hunt in south centeral, when we were talking they said the got some good draw tags in SE for the spring. Turns out the draw tags were in a 1 bear a year unit so they weren't able to use them because they tagged the bears in the fall. Just something to keep in mind.
great ideas and suggestions, im looking forward to hunting all those zones!! no doubt about that, maby cross paths with you gritty son guns!
Great ideas and looking forward to some new adventures thanks again stay gritty!!!!
When are you guys going to release some hunts, been waiting forever 😔 love all of them
Whats the best way to do a coastal black bear hunt in alaska
Ya missed the mark, IMO! What about speed goats? I drive west solo and get up to five stalks a day! That's under $2000. I do this to put eyes on my future elk hunts in that same area/region. 🤔
Ha ha! Thanks! The reason I didn’t mention pronghorn is because they just don’t excite me. But the idea of hunting them with a bow, spot and stalk style, intrigues me.
Say when! I got the spot, area, knowledge, and friends house to stay at. Last year, I had a stalk in the rain mixed with marble size hail. It was so bad my range finder didn't work! One of the best/most miserable stalks I have ever experienced! It's the best break from hunting ag rats that I know of. Be dialed in for 80 yds!😉🤔🤣
I honestly always get something out of your podcasts. All the time. Thanks for putting it out guys
Doesn't it say something that we're discussing a short list of affordability. Western hunting for non- residents has become non-affordable even though more non-residents support big game organizations than do western residents. RMEF comes to mind.
