- In this video, Michael Ellis introduces the concept of overshadowing. During the terminology section of this course, we mentioned overshadowing is when we're giving more than one input or prompt to the dog. When we give different prompts, the more relevant one is to the dog the more it will overshadow the other.
So when we're putting behavior on verbal cue, it's very important that we're not giving the command and the physical prompt at the same time. Over-shadowing will make the dog ignore the verbal prompt (or the command) and only pay attention to the physical prompt.
