You two were absolutely amazing over this past section. I’ve hiked it without snow and it was serious. Personally I think you’ve made a good choice. I love your steady natures and look forward to the next legs. I really hope you get back to the high sierra, though. It is spectacular. Stay safe. HYOH. Howdy
Been watching you boys from the beginning. My codger husband did Mexico to Tehachapi last year and I just dropped him off on 6/25 in Tehachapi to tackle the Sierra to Sonora Pass this year. We have a condo in Mammoth Lakes so when you tap Canada and head back to Bishop we’d be happy to pick you up and host your zero in Mammoth!
Good call to go to Quincy where there's no snow. After what you guys went thru on those steep snowy mountain passes, you deserve some sane hiking and DIRT! You love DIRT! Skeletore is rocking that dress! Funny as heck! Hello to Hazel! Good to see you back! Loved the humor and Joe, your hat of leaves was smashing. That was probably after a few adult beverages 😄 Take it easy and we'll all be looking forward to the promised bus ride.
Great job Codgers. I hope you all learned a lesson. Use 2 ice axes next time, when you have to reverse back down an icy mountain with hands and foot. Skeletor really help lead you back from the abyss. It must have taken incredible endurance and concentration at certain areas to stay alive. The end of each day through a tough pass must have been absolutely exhausting, but then you gotta wake up early the next day. Day in and day out for over a week. Amazing job getting through all those Sierra passes. The 2023 Sierra is no place for 20 mile/day hiker with ultralight gear and wearing lone peak Altras.
Y’all needed that double zero for sure. You earned it and then some. 😎 I’m happy to hear someone brought your poles to Bishop. Yay! Hi to Hazel and good luck to Skeletor as he continues thru the Sierra. Thanks for taking us along on your amazing trek. Hopefully the mozzies will not eat y’all alive up there in NorCal/ Oregon. Hike on☮️
I really like your statement "God purts people in your life for a reason. He clearly put Scott in our lives right before Forrester Pass" Hope that I got most of it correct. Based on viewing all of your videos it seems that Scotts presence on the snow trail has been extremely important and helpful. That is probably an understatement. But I can tell the genuine gratitude you have for Scotts presence. Will continue watching your steps each day as you proceed north.
I would say you are pretty much right on track of where you should be. It is Norther CA and Oregon is where the miles have to step up and you are in good shape for that. You do want to be done with Washington by end of September or you risk rainy sloppy snow. And fresh snow is worse that what you have experienced in Sierras. So get done with Washington, coming back to Sierras May also not be an option for the same late Tim period. You do not want to be one of the Donner Party trying to get through Donner Pass in that lat Sept-Oct time. Have most of all and be safe.glad to see Heather’s smile with you guys.
The plans for this next section sound really exciting! Please give an update on what is happening with replacing the lost tent poles? New tent or just getting some replacement poles? Would like to hear about any new gear plans. Thanks again for the great videos
Great job guys, I did all that climbing in my 20s and it was tough, not easy. You are both worthy of the moniker "Super Codgers". It was great to see that young man guide you guys through it. The group I backpacked with always made sure everyone around us was safe. PS we only had cramp-ons, no poles, no ice axe, or lite gear.
Roll down the street to Whiskey creek and have a Golden Trout Ale (mammoth brewing co) for me would yah!!! I used to live there 20-some years ago! Was working fire in summer and was on the framing crew who built the best western in town…
Thank you for taking us along in your journey. That night creek crossing I will never forget and the steep climbs up to passes. So daunting. And yet you guys did it!!!! Hope you get to relax a bit on your next section and gain daily mileage. Be safe on that bus ride. Hopefully it won’t be as scary as the creek crossing. 😂
Smart decision to flip forward. What you have achieved so far is truly amazing and gives this codger motivation and maybe a little angst for my hike in August over Kearsarge.
He didn't tell everyone on a video, I'll remind him. Someone found the poles and he got them back in Bishop. I think he bought gloves. thanks for asking. ... ms rumbles.
Love it! You guys are definitely a well suited comedy duo...bit like Abbott and Castello. Travel request probably a bit late for it but a bus sing along....wheels on the bus maybe? 😂 Safe travel guys 👣
Super! Glad you're trekking on. And so glad you got the experience of going through the heart of the Sierra during a record snow year. Memories to share with the grandkids. Thanks for the update on John and George, and looking forward to seeing the gal (forgot her name) back on trail with you. Smart move jumping forward to be able to reach the northern terminus, then coming back to finish the Sierra. Happy trails👣👣
Good to hear that you are skipping up to Quincy. Hopefully, you will be able and willing to come back to the Sierra and enjoy the beauty it has to offer when it doesn't feel like it is trying to kill you. This is what makes the PCT so difficult. You're either dealing with snow or you are dealing with heat and lack of water. p.s. A couple that I used to watch got hit with that ridiculous permit rule in Colorado a few years ago when someone reported them to the USFS. And, the ranger saying there is nothing they can do about it was lieing. What he really should have said is there's nothing I am willing to do about it.
Our daughter flipped to the Northern terminus a couple weeks ago and now is 220 or so sobo. They are calling them snobos. Perhaps request people make donations to said charity? I just need a picture of her with you guys. She goes by BAG, I hope your paths cross Double Dusty
This is so exciting. You will get to see the Sierra in fall as well as spring. And getting to Canada early is a great idea. I’ve known too many people who walked through Washington in the rain and snow. You’ll actually get to see all the views that would be covered in weather. Happy trails.
You are wise to skip up to Quincy. The snow will be minimal. There will be a couple dry patches, through Lassen where you can’t camp without a bear can, the hat creek rim and the section right after crater lake is pretty dry. But otherwise you shouldn’t have to carry too much water. And you should be able to put in more miles. Enjoy them. Around old station is subway cave. Take that short detour. And enjoy burney falls. There will be lots of burn sections in nor cal so keep an eye open for widow makers. Enjoy the bus ride up the 395. I just drove southbound through there. It’s gorgeous
Have really been enjoying your adventure with you. You two are amazing. You have made a smart decision. Nothing to be ashamed of. Enjoy the rest of the journey. Glad you made from Kennedy meadows south thru Mather pass safe. As a fellow codger keep on hiking
Good call you two!! Mountaineering takes a lot more time. You are backpackers. You didn’t seem to be enjoying yourselves the last few days. I’m looking forward to seeing Hazel too. Now go eat!
Smart skip to Quincy. Tioga Pass is still not open. With Mammoth Mt. open for skiing til August 1st. Between Bishop and Quincy it's Snowmelt Mosquito season til September. Best to you on the bus ride.
Thanks a lot for the updates and congratulations for reaching Bishop again! 🌞😀 I am really happy you took the decision to skip ahead. I know your vids are behind quite a bit, but we have been following travelinbeat channel and we figured you guys were not far from each other (his vids are also delayed). And for sure the challenges didn't subside much to Mammoth, and also they had very cool weather. So I was a bit worried you guys had entered that stretch at about the same time...
It will be nice to see that stretch without snow, and safer to bypass the area now, good call, even if it's a bit disappointing. I forgot about that filming law. It's been off and on, depending on court appeals. The number if UA-camrs monetizing their travels really put on spotlight on it. Hike on, be safe.
Wow thats so great that the hostel is going to hold your stuff for you! Good idea to jump ahead so you can make it to Canada before the snow starts flying again. Thanks for the update on John and George. Maybe after all this is over you can get the band back together somewhere for a celebration and some adult beverages 😊
Make sure you get your permits to come back down to finish the Sierra, as the changes the rules on jumping ahead and then come back to complete the Sierra. I thought they were requiring contiguous hiking. Hoping you can do it, tho.
You look rested. I hope if I get to do the PCT in 2027 that I run into hikers who have snow experience and mountaineering. Looked pretty intense. Tell your buddy from Ohio to look me up I’m just up the road he can go with me in 27
Great decision to hop up the trail. And you were fortunate to have Scott's help. Enjoying following you. One question- what's the rating on your sleeping bags?
That law is ridiculous! It makes me so mad for all you great folks who want to give us quality content. I had heard of the you tubers Kara and Nate getting in trouble for this: and the decision was overturned! But now, it’s un-overturned?! Crazy. Anyway, you two made it through the most amazing hard hard stuff, and what you’re doing, heading up north is smart. I look forward to your further adventures.
Honestly boys no way you could have done what you did without Scott. It is very apparent that you both know this and acknowledge it. And seriously do you know that Lady Luck and karma were in your backpacks…your videos did not show it but any experienced pct hiker knows you were one small misstep to a disastrous event that would hAve involved pushing the sos button. You both dodged a major bullet…So glad you made it thru and are flipping to Quincy. You are going to where I first stated back packing in 1973… btw way many good burger places await you in trail towns… Froggy out
We’re hoping to get back to do the 20 miles of pct trail that we had to bypass. With the side trail/roads we walked we probably missed about 6 miles of continuous footpath.
It is such a shame that everyone has to suffer and not get a bit of monetisation, but...... the buy me a coffee isn't monetisation is it? 🤔🙄😏 The little guy always suffers. Such a shame. I've tempered my language there. They are making it so you can never in the future monetise your channel in case someone watches an old video. Big Brother is definitely watching you. Good luck with the flip flop and from a lowly hiker who can only manage 10 miles a day at best, I think this is a very wise decision. Those last few days were madness. I bet the wives had some few choice words when they got the footage.
Are you kidding me @youtube @nationalParks 🤔🙄🤬🤬😠😠😡😡😤😤 I don't know how to start GoFundMe, but I'm sure someone here does... Let's do this, please. Reminder Codgers please wear SUNSCREEN. PCT hiker @Dixie announced she has skin cancer. Take care of yourselves. We are catching up on your videos. We've been hiking Colorado ourselves. Keep it going SAFELY
YES! Backpacking does require mountaineering skills. Good Work!
You guys are so funny. I enjoy how guys work to make decisions. Great plan moving forward.
Thanks for sharing your journey 👍👍

You've made a wise decision to move ahead. I applaud you for what you achieved in the Sierraso far!
Smart to jump ahead!

You codgers are amazing. No shame in skipping forward. Staying safe to hike another day is the wise choice. Really enjoying your hike guys. Just WOW!!
i am so happy! happy trails. you will be safe again.

Scott is a hero.❤
Though call to move ahead but a good decision. Slogging through the snow is no joke. Come back when you can hike on DIRT!!
Oh, and Thx for the update on John. We found a PCT video with the group he is with
Don't know you personally but still very proud of you guys!
As a 64yr old backpacker I know how hard that is, mad respect and God speed will follow every day
I’m in Mt Shasta need a ride or place to rest I’m here.
I skipped over the Sierras to Belden and it's been nothing but dry trail. The burn zone is pretty ugly, but it's definitely better than snow!!
Y’all needed that double zero for sure. You earned it and then some. 😎 I’m happy to hear someone brought your poles to Bishop. Yay! smart decision… in terms of water crossings, some of the worst are on the stretch between RedsMeadow and SonoraPass… and that was last year 😂…
The plans for this next section sound really exciting! Please give an update on what is happening with replacing the lost tent poles? New tent or just getting some replacement poles? Would like to hear about any new gear plans. Thanks again for the great videos

UBER CODGER
Really enjoy watching you guys! Glad to hear you are jumping ahead! Been worried about you all! Take care!
SHSM.....Senior High Sierra Monsters!!! You guys really rocked the climbs for us seniors!! Looking forward to the flip up north!! Happy Trails!!
I have enjoyed the videos of the Sierra but so glad to see that you are moving forward North. Always safe is best.
Good call to move north…Discretion is the better part of valor!!!
Roll down the street to Whiskey creek and have a Golden Trout Ale (mammoth brewing co) for me would yah!!!

I wish you could see the Sierras without all the snow. It’s absolutely gorgeous when you see the vegetation and lakes.
There we go, your back on the fast track, back on schedule.
Smart decision to flip forward. What you have achieved so far is truly amazing and gives this codger motivation and maybe a little angst for my hike in August over Kearsarge.
You are incredible. What a great achievement, chapeau👍 It‘s nice that you (hopefully) leave the snow behind. Take care and have fun.
To Ms.Rumbles , Did Rumbles get new tent stakes and gloves ?
He didn't tell everyone on a video, I'll remind him. Someone found the poles and he got them back in Bishop. I think he bought gloves. thanks for asking. ... ms rumbles.

Safe travel guys 👣
Skipping ahead seems like a great idea, after watching the last few videos of the Sierras. Enjoy
Congrats, guys. You actually did some of the most difficult parts of the Sierra, and good decision to move to less snowy trail.
Smart plan! You’ve done an amazing job. Hope you make it back to the Sierra in the fall, the most beautiful time of year in the high country.
Super! Glad you're trekking on. And so glad you got the experience of going through the heart of the Sierra during a record snow year. Memories to share with the grandkids. More than 6000 prescribers ! That's bc of you two, not the videos(also ofcourse) but it's fun to make the journey with you. Thxs for that

Absolute legends. Good thinking about moving ahead.,smart. Looking forward to seeing you on the dirt!!!
Thank you
I cringed as well. What you have accomplished is astonishing.

😮😮👍👍🤙🤙
Great plan! You’re an inspiration!
You guys did great! Tough going, for sure, but I think you've made the right decision. Enjoy the 'easy' miles!
Good decision. Hi Hazel🙂
Stay safe
Good decision. May see you in the Marbles where I'll be working with a volunteer trail crew later this month.
I know you have made the right decision. Be Safe 🍃🙏
Well, one thing about it….you guys can handle pretty much Anything, after the Sierras!
It will be nice to see that stretch without snow, and safer to bypass the area now, good call, even if it's a bit disappointing. I forgot about that filming law. We can write our own checks to the Alzheimer’s association in appreciation for for your hike. THANKS 💜
Quincy, WA?🤣
Quincy CA. We’re in Etna now. Should be in Oregon in a week.

We’re hoping to get back to do the 20 miles of pct trail that we had to bypass. With the side trail/roads we walked we probably missed about 6 miles of continuous footpath.
What happened to Scott? Was he only doing a section through the Sierra's or is he continuing with a thru hike?
He is continuing the Sierra's.
He’s doing the whole thing NOBO. He’s continuing on.
Just put the money back into the pct

I see the reply. Glad he got them back.
