UN - REAL!!!! That water crossing in the dark was horrendous!! I found myself leaning to one side towards the side of safety. What a relief when Dave made it across ok. And as if that wasnt enough, the very steep climb up the mountain. You guys are absolutely amazing. You can be proud of yourselves. Not to mention cowboy camping at 28 degrees. We are all cheering for you out here in UA-cam land, believe me. I'm captivated by your videos and watch like a hawk for the next one. Take care.

Yikes! I think that log crossing in the dark was about the scariest thing I've seen in a PCT video. What an epic adventure you Codgers are having!

You guys are amazing. I’m so glad you lived through it! I’ve been on some of the PCT and the JMT , and I have scaled mountain ridges in snow shoes but never have I seen a water crossing like what you guys did across the log with your micro spikes. That was incredible. I wait every day to watch your videos. I am just really loving them. You guys are really busting your butts and you’re doing so great. I hope you’re so proud of yourselves because I know we sure are proud of you guys.

Thank you for the great videos. The stream crossings are spectacular.
You are doing the beat thing on the upstream side of the log. In case you fall in you can grab the log.
Why are you guys worried about the raging stream crossings? You have health insurance and life insurance? Better yet you feel lucky?
That is the Mather pass that people before you warned about. They say that south approach is very steep and dangerous.
We just came back from 8 days at Convict lake near Mammoth Lakes. It is at only about 7,000 feet elevation with huge water flow into the lake. I hiked up about
5 miles up stream about 2,000 feet higher and it is all snow in the valley bottoms. About 7 days ago the weather warmed with night lows in the upper 40s. Daytime
was in the upper 70s and low 80s. The snow is melting so fast 24 hours a day.
Wow, loosing your tent poles and a glove sounds bad. I lost my tent TYVEK ground cloth in the upper Yosemite NP at above 10,000 feet years ago. I just have to remember
to lay out everything while packing. That way I don't forget something important.
Evolution creek / stream / raging river?
By taking Bishop pass and coming back at North Lake and Piute pass you avoid the lower Evolution valley creek and steam. I have crossed lower Evolution creek in August
of a very low snow and rain year. It was about 80 feet wide and about knee deep. I can only guess this year with record snow fall and melting it will be easily 100 feet wide
and maybe near or over waist high. The worse is there are a series of water falls less than 300 feet down stream.
Thanks again for the spectacular videos.
    Wendy

Wow, just wow! I think you guys have experienced several rights of passage into seasoned thru hikers! That log crossing in the early part of the video looked very sketchy. The straight up ascent to Mather Pass, including rock scrambling! Rumbles losing your tent poles and taking it in stride to cowboy camp, joined by loyal, true blue No Filter. I'm with No Filter about the snakes, but no problem in the snow.😊 You guys are this years PCT heros.

Losing essential gear in the wilderness sucks ...
I had this happen while doing back country bushwhacking up above overlook ridges over Desolation Wilderness in early spring there was enough snow to climb over Manzanita bushes
when I arrived at the top of the ridge the snow depth was about 8 feet deep.
I went to stake out a tent site took my pack off to discover my shelter was gone 😳
    I am like ....
What am I going to do ?
Because the snow depth was so deep the branches of the pine trees were sticking into the snow and frozen easy and perfect to break off for building a snow cave.
The floor was all fresh scented pine branches which kept me off the snow I used my ground sheet to provide the ceiling along with pine branches making a snow cave..
To this day it was one of the best shelter experiences I have ever known ❤
I know once you get into Bishop you will be able to order new poles.
I am glad you guys are having the Jeremiah Johnson experience in the Sierra be careful keep a watch out for that old Codger that likes playing with Grizzlies 😅
These memories will always be with you..
Thank you for sharing your journey with the world

Perhaps it was just an oversight, but generally one wants to unbuckle their pack waist strap when crossing rivers so they can quickly get free of your pack in the event they end up in the water. Stay safe. I'm really enjoying catching up on your travels. I just returned from a 12-day trek at Philmont with my son. When flying home over the Sierras, it still looked like May on July 3.

I've done some iffy creek crossings, but that is one where I would have done some more searching for a different place. Too sketchy for me. Was that the South Fork of the Kings? It's got some good flows even in an average year. The lakes north of Mather are Upper and Lower Pallisade Lakes, then you descend the Golden Staircase to the string of meadows below it and the South Fork of the San Joaquin (I believe).
p.s. I cowboy camp whenever I can. Love the views of the stars better than a tent/tarp.

    • @grega8586
      @grega8586 Рік тому

The crossing was South Fork Kings. North of Mather Pass they decended Palisade Creek to Middle Fork Kings. South Fork San Joaquin is north of Muir Pass, below the Evolution Creek crossing (which would have been really crazy this year). I'd have loved to see the cascade on Evolution Creek at the big drop into the South Fork canyon. 🙂
