Are you in my brain? I had my first greenie from a lifted nail last week and FREAKED. Thanks for posting this for the next girl frantically searching the web for answers!

I was really excited for a video like this to come out. I’m not a nail tech but I do my nails and I figured there were other aspiring techs who were curious about the nail care side of things and learning about stuff they’d might run into if they only worked independently, client to client (and probably unlicensed and learned online from videos like suzie’s) instead of in a salon. I went to paintball with friends, a ball hit my nail and I got bubble like yours! It took me ~2,3 weeks to see it because it was growing out. I buffed it a bit and it opened. Now I feel so proud I did it, I never knew it could be dangerous 😮
Not really dangerous just gross and can weaken the natural nail plate. Even if it goes really far into the nailbed it will grow out eventually. Is not damaging the root of the nail being the matrix so it’s not a permanent issue
I'm so happ that she showed us this video to let us know that even though she's worked with nails for a very long time, even she isn't perfect and she still might damage the nails. Suzie, I so appreciate all your videos and your way of educating. So informative and helpful. I am so tired of the nail technicians today being lazy or uninformed and leaving lifts and bubbles. I think you would probably have a heart attack if you saw my nails. Lol. Without being able to get a fill for my acrylic nails due to current circumstances, I took it upon myself to learn and purchase the products I need to begin doing my own nails. I haven’t actually filled them yet because I am so out of practice. I used to be a licensed Cosmetologist, not specializing in nails, but I learned how to do acrylic...eons ago. Anyway, my nails literally have rings of lifts like rings on a tree as the layers of the tree grows every year. You get the picture. I fear I will have to buff/file until I get to my natural nail and start over. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcomed and appreciated, like a lot!!

Pseudomonas is a stinky, gross, bug. On an Agar plate it always looks slimy and smells awful. I can't imagine how much damage it can do left unchecked. Thanks for educating us as always Susie. Signed, fellow fan and lab tech. :-)
The Nail Hub has a good video on this. You want to file behind the lifting, not on top of it. And from the unlifted part towards the lifted part (with a hand file, I'm too nervous with e-files). Then the lifted part falls off without filing your actual nail. That's where mine tend to lift too.
hey suzie! i need some advice on what you’d do in this situation. i had a client who had broken one of her nails and it lifted her natural nail more than halfway up the nail bed! i told her i didn’t want to put a nail over it because I didn’t want to risk hurting it or having there be any risk of greenies forming. she told me if i didn’t do it she would glue a press on herself. i wasn’t comfortable with putting a nail on but also knew that a glue on wasn’t a good alternative. what should i have done?
I think if you would have done anything to that nail, and something negative happened, it would have come back on you. You did the right thing. If I would hve been your client, I would have appreciated your honesty.
The same thing happened to me a few years ago. My natural nail lifted off of my nail bed almost all the way. My nail tech shortened the nail all the way so the nail moves as little as possible and then filled it with gel as opposed to removing the gel completely. I found that the layer of gel kept my nail in place and that it healed better that way. So whenever i went for fills she filled my nail regurarly and the lifted nail she just filled with a layer of gel. I know this wouldnt work for everyone but my nail situation was a bit extreme. It grew out in about 5 months
I would let her glue on a press-on nail... maybe even suggest the temporary type with less strong glue. Part of being a nail tech is protecting the health of your clients. Also, if it goes bad, she will only have herself to blame, not blame you. Sometimes looking someone in the eye and speaking with authority on your subject of expertise is the best gift you can give. :)
Hey Ms. Suzie, (and Camera Man) I shut my thumbnail in a drawer last year and my natural nail lifted, my nail tech said oh it's fine. Then proceeded to fill it as usual. It turned green and she still wanted to fill it! I'm in the medical field and my hands are always in water! Needless to say I quit going there and it took almost 4 months for my nail to heal correctly! I think it took so long because I allowed her to talk me into filling the first time. I take responsibility but she did say it would be okay and grow in. I guess some people's do grow under the acrylic but I wasn't one of those people.. probably because of my job. I just wish we had a good personally owned shop near me. All of the shops in my area are the "move them in, move them out" type! And there's one on every corner. I've been to 6 different places in the last 2 years! It's exhausting. I actually can do my own nails, one of my friends used to teach nails at the local technical School.. she showed me how to do them years ago and I started doing my own. But now I just don't like to do my own it takes me too long 😭. I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too LOL. I totally enjoy your videos and have learned a lot. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world!
Thanks so much for your video. Looked at my press on nails. And I had a big bubble on my thumb nail 🤣🤣wish u could have seen how fast I took it off. Stay blessed thanks.
You are a great instructor and your guidelines are always an inspiration for us. I am also a beautician and having a youtube channel as well and I get much assistance regarding manicure from your tips. Hats off to you.
Hi Suzie, I love your videos! They are so educational my boyfriend says I watch them like a tv series! Lol. Can you do a video on painting line gel? I would like to see if you have any tips on how to use it!
I got the greenies on five of my nails back in November😭😭😭. Mine were advanced to the point that my natural nails weakened🥵. My nails and the green parts are JUST starting to grow out and stronger nail is growing in. I haven't applied any acrylic since I found the issue even though it was too late😑. So glad for this video. At least now I know it's not a fungus and that it'll resolve on its own😅
@@peggirl152 Haven't been sick this entire time🤷🏼♀️. According to WebMD, you can come into contact with pseudomonas and not get sick if you're in good health
@@MentalHealthMakeup yes, me too. I've only been doing nails for a couple of months. I had them on 3 fingers very mildly. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong.
Thanks for the information. Very good video. Can you tell me if white spots on the nail is a fungus ? My sister had a pedicure and they did a french look on her toes. I can see white places on her toe nail because the polish is clear I mentioned it to her and she said the nail tech said don't worry about it. I was always told if you have a fungus don't polish the nails because it will contaminate the bottle of polish and spread to other people. I was told this 20 years ago so it might be different now. I wasn't sure if white spots could be fungus or if it's only a problem if it's green. Just wondering because I would not want to contaminate my polishes I would have politely asked her to wait until the spots were gone or asked her to purchase her own polish .
Suzie hi thanks for sharing the greenies. Very interesting. Haven't seen anything like this before abd its good to know. Hope you had a chance to eat the icecream. Sounds yummy. I'm glad you posted this today my mom hits her nails alot but never has a bubble yet but if she does now i know what to do.🙂
I still see a very tiny bit of a white ring around where the bubble was. If most of it has been filed away, is it okay for that to be there? The times I've done infills, I've felt so paranoid about those tiny white parts, and end up over filing the nails
Thank you, this helped me understand what happened a couple of years ago to one of my nails, I had a bubble that was yellow/green, my nail tech took it off then reapplied, she told me sometimes it happens, I didn't know about it being so yukky, because it happened between visits and i had a dep red color on my nails and we didn't see it until she took the colour off to apply the infill. and yes I hurt my finger/nail a week before we found it.
If I do have the greenies; what can I put on it or what can I not; meanwhile the bacteria grows out. Can I apply polygel on top of it; or I have to let it breath. Thank you
I'm hooked and binge watching everything!! I can't wait till the small starter kit comes back out for your NCE beginner kit. If I don't want super long nails because I work with like people, can I just use acrilic powder and monomer, because I have really thin nails? Thanks!!
Wooow thanks so much for this. It’s like you knew I had an air bubble (I knew I had a problem but didn’t know what to do) I think I’d just take the whole nail off and do it over
I have a question about the nail drill: How good is the torque? Is it strong enough to shape acrylic nails and take down product on multiple clients a day? The only thing that’s “eh” about Max’s site is there are no reviews. I want to make sure to invest in a good drill. Thanking in advance!
Thanks for your video! I was wondering if I need to worry about greenies with jelly tips? Since I add a base coat of builder gel before putting the jelly tip on are my nails protected or do I still need to worry about bubbles?
Perfect timing! I took off 3-week old gel polish yesterday and discovered that where I'd damaged my nail in early January is now looking a bit yellow and has a weird bubble of lifting. I was sure I'd have to take off all the builder gel from my nail to fix it, now I know I don't have to! This is a very informative video. Thank you Suzie :)
Hi suzie!! I was wondering if you could do a video on using acrylic as a glue alternative for stuff like press on nails. I've been thinking about it for a bit but wanted another opinion from someone more educated with acrylic. Is it safe/ a good idea?
Honestly if you can sculpt with acrylic simply build the entire nail. Press ons are for those who dont have that skill. And if you don’t adhere the press on with a Hydrid Gel - most easy
Hi Suzie, I’m wanting to get into polygel and wanted to get a good brand that will last me awhile as opposed to the starter kits on amazon. What’s the best type of polygel that you recommend?
Not Suzie lol but makarrt is really good even for beginners. Just make sure you prep well (clean, cut, dehydrate etc) & they will last. Also recommend the “modelones” brand dual nail forms. They’re straight & fit nails really well
got my set off of Amazon Gelish PolyGel Professional Nail Technician All-in-One Trial Kit www.amazon.com/dp/B074ND2Q9P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_1TLxEb9AKRTPD
Hi Suzy, I've enjoyed following you for years now. I looked you up to see what you had to say on treating greenie nails. I get the reason for fixing a bubble and why. But... What is the first product you world use to remove "greenie" from your nail? Can you apply a treatment that STOPS the greenie immediately so reapplying a gel base coat is safe then continuing with a hard gel nail application. (My nails) Thank you for you help.
I’ve seen these air bubbles in the center on a few other channels before. Could this possibly be from pinching the nail during the acrylic application??
does anyone know how to prevent this with drug store glue on press on nails? I typically like to wear my press ons for about a week or more! but now im worried about the over growth of bacteria haha
I’ve done my second set of the après x nails and I’m still having a little trouble with air bubbles/lifting :( My thumb and ring finger have greenies and I’m glad I took them off when I did but I need way more practice
Hi; I just did my first set of Apres today and each and every nail has at least one air bubble. Its SO difficult to press down AND make sure they're straight AND get the bubbles out!! Most of the pockets are right in the middle of the nail so I'm going to wait a few days and see what happens. I can't imagine any water will get in where they are located but now I'm really concerned!! How long did you have yours on before you noticed an infection?
operachef1 Hi I’m so late! It’s just there until it grows out. It’s best to take the nail off when it starts lifting or after a period of time. You’ll be fine, just remember to dehydrate the nail. I got them previously from someone at a nail salon :/
Thanks for answering! Unfortunately I panicked and took them off the next day after reading horror stories about fungal infections. No sooner did I take them off than I came across, by accident, a dermatological website that stated it takes no sooner than 3 weeks and up to 3 months to develop something like that after lifting or air bubbles expose the nail bed to water/moisture. 😔 I'll know if this ever happens again! They looked beautiful!!
Thank you Suzie this is what I was waiting for. I had a person come in from another salon and all her nails except one was covered with greenies. Is it contagious or not? I was told it was and would contaminate everything . True or False? Also, I told her let them alone for awhile and soak them in alcohol.
I do my own nails so as soon as i see ANY little bit of lifting i soak off all my nails. I get such bad anxiety thinking my nails will turn green 😭 my friend lost all her nails because of this & it took her a year to get back to normal
Had one didn't know that it would do that an the nail tech never noticed an kept putting product on it when I realized what happened I to take the acrylic off and let my nails grow out a few months, didn't go back to the nail place after that found a new one.

☹️sadly not all techs are created equal. Bad advice indeed.
Thank god you made this. I just took off my acrylics and had some green on my thumb. About had a heart attack.
Thank you for sharing this with us. It is something we should know about. Thank you again.
Thanks so much for your video. Looked at my press on nails. And I had a big bubble on my thumb nail 🤣🤣wish u could have seen how fast I took it off. Stay blessed thanks.
Im actually starting to Learn how to make my own gel nails using tips and Im learning from your videos ❤️
You are a great instructor and your guidelines are always an inspiration for us. I am also a beautician and having a youtube channel as well and I get much assistance regarding manicure from your tips. Hats off to you.
In my neck of the woods, greenies means making yourself sick from combining weed with alcohol 😷 at least your greenies can be filed away 😅
In MY neck of the woods, we call combining weed+alcolhol "getting crunk" 😂🤷🏻
i love your videos! they literally serve as asmr for me because they're so relaxinggg
Hi Suzie, I love your videos! They are so educational my boyfriend says I watch them like a tv series! Lol. Can you do a video on painting line gel? I would like to see if you have any tips on how to use it!
Love how informative you are! Love all your videos! thank u so much!
Thank you so much for this video, this morning I needed it! 😳
How does a bubble happen? Love your channel. Great info!!
Ouch😱
Can you put an enhancement after sanitizing a fungus on the natural nail?
Thank you 🙏
thank you for this information i think its very important for us to know and how to treat it.
Thank you, always good to hear info on greenies xx
Suzie I’ve been waiting on this video for awhile!!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Great info!!! So much misinformation out there 💕💕
I got the greenies on five of my nails back in November😭😭😭. Mine were advanced to the point that my natural nails weakened🥵. My nails and the green parts are JUST starting to grow out and stronger nail is growing in. I haven't applied any acrylic since I found the issue even though it was too late😑. So glad for this video. At least now I know it's not a fungus and that it'll resolve on its own😅
AnitaLuvsBeauty you know that the pseudomonas can make you sick?
@@peggirl152 Haven't been sick this entire time🤷🏼♀️. According to WebMD, you can come into contact with pseudomonas and not get sick if you're in good health
it happened to me because I left my nails on for too long. I thought my fingers were going to fall off
@@akishaparker7976 same😅😅. Mine happened because I'm still learning technique and my skills are beginner lol
Thanks Suzie for sharing this helpful tutorial 👍
Suzie hi thanks for sharing the greenies. Very interesting. Haven't seen anything like this before abd its good to know. Hope you had a chance to eat the icecream. Sounds yummy. I'm glad you posted this today my mom hits her nails alot but never has a bubble yet but if she does now i know what to do.🙂
Exactly
I still see a very tiny bit of a white ring around where the bubble was. If most of it has been filed away, is it okay for that to be there? The times I've done infills, I've felt so paranoid about those tiny white parts, and end up over filing the nails
Very informative!!
Thank you!! Very educational 👌😊
Informative like always
If I do have the greenies; what can I put on it or what can I not; meanwhile the bacteria grows out. Can I apply polygel on top of it; or I have to let it breath. Thank you
I'm hooked and binge watching everything!! I can't wait till the small starter kit comes back out for your NCE beginner kit. If I don't want super long nails because I work with like people, can I just use acrilic powder and monomer, because I have really thin nails? Thanks!!
Wooow thanks so much for this. It’s like you knew I had an air bubble (I knew I had a problem but didn’t know what to do) I think I’d just take the whole nail off and do it over
Thank you, very informative
Ooo clicked on this straight away! I’m intrigued
Hi Suzie, When is your next magazine coming out?😊
We had a delay but we are preparing the next issue
I have a question about the nail drill: How good is the torque? Is it strong enough to shape acrylic nails and take down product on multiple clients a day? The only thing that’s “eh” about Max’s site is there are no reviews. I want to make sure to invest in a good drill.
Thanking in advance!
Thanks for your video! I was wondering if I need to worry about greenies with jelly tips? Since I add a base coat of builder gel before putting the jelly tip on are my nails protected or do I still need to worry about bubbles?
THANK YOU!
I learn so much from you!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It is very helpfull and informative!💖💅🙏
Can trapped blood between the nail and the acrylic create the greenies? I love your videos they are very educational!!! Love from Greece
They’re straight & fit nails really well
I’ve used gelish brand (the original) and makarrt and I really prefer the gelish. It’s not as sticky as makarrt.
Yes! Gelish is the best!
CryTides where do you buy the gelish polygel? I’ve looked on their website, but there isn’t an option to buy it
got my set off of Amazon Gelish PolyGel Professional Nail Technician All-in-One Trial Kit www.amazon.com/dp/B074ND2Q9P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_1TLxEb9AKRTPD
Hi Suzie, what kind of nail machine you have? Thank you
omg thanks for the video i had a shock of my life
Hi Suzy, I've enjoyed following you for years now.
(My nails)
Thank you for you help.
❤️ love your work xx
I’ve seen these air bubbles in the center on a few other channels before. Could this possibly be from pinching the nail during the acrylic application??
Yes, it could be. Pinching is a real problem if not done correctly- requires lots of experience to pull that off correctly
So helpful!!! Thank you!
Suzie what is the best product you have found to put foils on? i have halo transfer foils but i can never find a good product to put the foils on with
Is this more likely to happen with acrylics? Or is the likelihood the same for all nail products?
Gdog R It’s possible with press ons if not applied correctly
does anyone know how to prevent this with drug store glue on press on nails? I typically like to wear my press ons for about a week or more! but now im worried about the over growth of bacteria haha
Is the usual place for a pocket lift the stress point of the nail like yours?
Hi Suzie, I was wondering if you could talk more about allergies? You mentioned it a few times in your Black French Acrylic nail tutorial! Thank you 😁
Can you continue to get acrylic nails with the greenies?
They looked beautiful!!
operachef1 of course! The nails take a lot of practice, thankfully I’ve gotten less air bubbles! :)
I love doing nails but I still learn
This video was actually as super relaxing as it was informative omg... I'm about to peacefully fall asleep 😴
