Filmed on a very wet and windy Saturday 25th March and Cold, bright and windy Sunday 26th.
Highlight of the day would be 46100 Royal Scot steaming into Carlisle with the London to Settle & Carlisle Railway excursion. Its train returned to London behind 86101 Sir William Stanier FRS. 47614 brought up the rear, providing 'Hotel Services' to the train.
As the train didn't arrive from London, via the Settle & Carlisle line until after 3pm, the opportunity was taken to record the occasional freight trains, including the Cement train from Clitheroe to Mossend via the S&C and the late running Oil Tanks from Dalston to Grangemouth.
As it was 5:40pm before the train left for the south, there wasn't enough time for Royal Scot to return to Crewe that night without being held by overnight possessions along the way. Instead it was stabled at High Wapping Sidings, under the Power Signal Box.
At its scheduled time on the Sunday morning, Royal scot was reversed out of High Wapping sidings into A road - allowing for the movement of 57307 Lady Penelope to the head of 390129 Brett / City of Stoke on Trent. It then steamed off in fine style, with lots of steam, for the south.

Another good day out for you Lots of good video. I always liked the class 86, good to see and hear that again. It's a shame the wind was so strong on Sunday for Royal Scot leaving.

Very good video as usual Leslie. Anything with a 47 on gets my approval but nice seeing an 86 back in Carlisle. I'm old enough when the 47s and 86s at Carlisle were the normal occurence. Sadly it's now just for the odd charter train, bringing something new or taking something to be scrapped. Steam doesnt really float my boat, imnfrombthe diesel era but I can see the nostalgic charm with them. Thank your for sharing.
Thanks. I think the despatcher chose a good train to see off! The 86 did look splendid. The irony of steam excursions is these locos have spent more time working in the Diesel era than when steam was everywhere!

Hi Les Another great video there, The 86 looks good in Carlisle again, maybe get the 87 there soon, would be nice to see that. Did you get the Pendo with the 47 on the front, or is that a regular thing for Sundays (no live power?). Also how is the new LSL depot coming along, when it opens I guess these ECS/Light Engine moves will stop, won't they?
I have footage of them trying to connect to the pendo and then uncouple as they got frustrated. However that was after 2 hours messing about. It didnt leave for another 90 minutes by which time I was home and off doing other things. You are the first to confirm it was dragged to Longsight

Excellent video. With the freights, why didn't at least two use one of the roads (tracks) between the platforms? Is it slower given the layout of points, so signalmen prefer to send via a platform road?
Thanks!. The centre roads - B(obby) and C(harlie) provide short layby or passing opportunities as they are accessed from the Platform 3 road at the north end and the Platform 4 road at the south. If a platform road is free then its used in preference - especially P3 for northbound intermodals and P4 for southbounds.

Yes I got some footage mainly of it failing to trigger the signal on approach and then arriving. A 397 blocked the departure!
@@LeslieGilpinRailways It was nice to see it back in action after it got its electrics barbecued in circumstances that are still a little unclear. Hopefully we'll see it back in Edinburgh before long!

The dalston tanks seem to have shrunk les!!!was that the 1st trip or the 2nd I'm guessing that was the 2nd
Third mate. First is at 3am last should be just after 9, only ever 6 tanks - the sidings at Dalston won't hold more. 18 from the yard to Grangemouth.
Do you remember the days when nearly all WCML freights were electrically hauled? How quaint and old fashioned that seems today 😂
