Im a Washington lad of over 40 years living a 5 minute walk from the Victoria Viaduct. I remember as a child watching and listening to the trains going over the bridge. When ya stood underneath it the whole thing shook as the gigantic diesels would garggle and rumble along. I also remember being on the actual Viaduct as trains went over hiding away in the cut away's getting shouted at by the drivers "GET OFF THE BRIDGE!" looking back now i dont know how the hell i wasnt killed haha. Its aboslutely heartbreaking whats become of such a once beautiful bridge. She is all fenced off on both sides the track has long been lifted and vegitation has almost covered the entre thing. The brickwork and fencing has severely eroded away. I still go up on the regular just to sit and take in the quietness and fresh air sometimes i can still feel the rumblings are ghostly faint garggles of an era long gone but not forgotten. I currently work at Nexus and i have been hearing some very positive things indeed about the Leamside :) :)

I am sure I was born 20 years too late! Thankfully we have the work of Mr. Goult to appreciate better days.

Thank you for a glimpse and mention of ravens’no13
We made a bid to remember this and to name 91013 “sir Vincent Raven”
Hovever despite the support from the director intercity cloud see no commercial value in doing so so it never happened.
91013 was named “ institution of electrical engineers” when working a special for the iee to york during shunting at york the locomotive was signalled onto the Scarborough branch . The road through that platform was not wired nor equipped with run off wiring and the arc caused as the pantograph setting part of the canopy on fire. So much for a locomotive numbered 13 50:30

At 34:34 that is Deerness Valley Junction. Bridge House Junction is hidden behind the embankment in the background. That was my favourite train spotting place in 1965-6.

Quality amateur footage such as this is invaluable for both those who missed the era and golden oldies who look back on those days with fond remembrance. Bless you for making this sequence available.
Congratulations on your excellent camera work. Most professional!

The balance of steam sound and commentary is perfect , picture quality faultless and of course my time(early 60s)Doncaster being my preference. As an aside I am modelling Alnwick station and would love to see video (cine) do you have any. Thanks a pleasure to watch

I was rather young when I travelled in steam trains and those who were close to the engine generally looked worse for wear. Hence I wasn't very keen on steam engine. And was rather glad to travel in diesel and later electric. However now looking back I feel so foolish, at not realising those last few years of steam engine that will never come back. Similarly I remember those propeller planes hovering around before landing, yet all I wanted to see was the latest jets and above all the Concord, yet today I really miss those good days. I have hopefully learnt my lesson and today I value things which have served us well, instead of being eager to see the next new thing
