after playing mario kart wii a ton recently and then playing this game for the new courses, this mk8 game gives alot of invincibility after one hit. I think way too forgiving and prevents classic "mario karting" like you can run into a banana to dodge a blueshell.
@@midnightgamer2088 I always felt everything added in MK7 and beyond was just because they ran out of ideas. I don’t need flying, diving and useless gravity sections, I prefer the basic tracks
@@dasallmaechtigeJ No the flying and diving are great, it's the anti gravity that I don't like because it's something you don't even notice while you're playing the game. It needs to be seen from another view to look cool. Also MK8 ruined gliding, not even a queen mushroom extends your flight a fun amount anymore
As someone who has put in the time and effort to get 3 stars, on all difficulties, on all cups... Cloudtop Cruise was worse than all three Rainbow Roads combined.
I’m currently trying to do that! (While also just having fun on 200cc). I have the gold trophy for every cup on every cc, and I have 3 stars on all cups on 50, 100, and 150. I’m currently working on 200 because it’s the most fun to me, and once I have all of them on that I’ll do mirror. What do you think is the most important advice/technique I should know in order to finish?
Can vouch. Track was a nightmare for me ngl (Edit)Also crossing cup and bell cup were hell. Had to restart multiple times for both at places like cheese land and super bell highway.
@@flashnrt just finished doing that yesterday actually! Besides luck, the biggest hurdle to get over on 200cc was brake drifting. I honestly didnt know it was a thing before, but on 200cc its almost required on some turns like in neo bowser city and rainbow road. Other than that it's not too bad besides the occasional frustrating blue shell etc
Getting Mario Karted can happen on any stage. Cloudtop cruise is really fun IMO, since it is wide and open, yet still requires precision and good timing. Plus, the scenery is really good.
Even worse, right after that you go to boost panels and think you have timing down but you still get struck by lightning, not once but twice, then get hit by a Rogue greenshell off the ramp and fall down.
For people saying "Oh this is bad on any map." The reason this is so bad here is that the main routes anyone with half a brain takes are that bounce they got knocked off at in the start which causes them to not be put after it but to the side (Even worse then before it) and the cannon where getting hit early takes you slowly all the way across. This map has some of the worst spots to get hit in the entire game given all those spots are easy/mandatory to get to and 99/100 you will go for those spots.
I mean, any track can become your least favourite when you get hit by an item at the worst time. Saw a guy put a track in f tier and the primary reason I got from it was he was unlucky enough to picked off by a red shell someone in front had hurled backwards
Dude I’ve seen that. Twisted mansion is a good track and should’ve been placed a little higher. Items should reflect the track itself (unless certain items have an advantage on the track ofc)
Not many tracks have a mandatory issue like this though, the straight line where if you fall off you get put to the side of it or the worst possible spot. The cannon which is just long enough and shoots you too fast which makes getting hit one of the most devastating things possible. It does have design issues which shouldn't be issues in the first place.
MK pro tip that everyone already knows: Throw red shells right before a jump so the target will get hit in the air, fall down and return even later to the track
That is personally my favorite segment of the track, but I'm more of a racing line kind of player rather than a mini-turbo one. That bill's still unlucky though.

well not every course is difficult, and having courses that everyone hates make them more fun to play which is exactly why there's difficult tracks. If every track was easy and weren't designed to screw people over at some point, then it would just be a normal racing game.
@@secoTheSonicFan that's the point here, I get that but what's frustrating about Nintendo is that there's no real way to play online with a rule set that you want consistently unless you have enough friends that want to play Mario kart regularly to organize your own lobby. I get that non-competitive gameplay is a selling point for some people, but Nintendo tends to think that they know best and not give the consumer options of how to play the games that they pay for. Plus, there are many aspects about Mario kart online that are frustrating from a gameplay standpoint that aren't really about competitiveness, more just bad gameplay and frustrating lobby systems. Item lag is noticeable even to casual gamers online, and the random course selection thing is kind of a joke.
You do realize both Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 came out years before Mario Party, right? If anything, Hudson took some inspiration from Mario Kart when starting the Mario Party series.
I don't have MK8D yet so I mostly play the Wii U version but I swear I *always* get shocked on the airship/cannon section at least once per race. Not sure why Lightning is so common on this track, other than for thematic reasons
I believe item chances are based on distance from the racer in first. The cannon puts a huge distance between first place and everyone else. Since there are items right before the airship there's a good chance someone towards the back pulls a lightning while the middle of the pack is in the cannon.
Obviously its always a ton of bad luck but tbh this track was never that fun for me anyway. The cloud texture is annoying and the track in the clouds is just very boring. Airship Fortress is a far better track and I wish they would have done more with the ship in this track
I hate how Lakitu pulls you at like 60% of the cannon speed.
Still better than the previous games, where if you drop in the middle of a flying section Lakitu flies you all the way back

Ikr, gliders ruin the point of the cannons. They are supposed to shoot you through the skies, not put you into a slow, graceful flight.

Rainbow road was my kryptonite. I only now just got all three stars on all 12 cups in every class except 200cc.
As someone who also did this, I can confirm. This track is hell in the sky.

If you manage to do well on two of the hardest courses in Mario Kart history, yes.
Hyrule Circuit is hit or miss, but Ice Ice Outpost... It doesn't even look that bad but it always is...

I have beat all 150 and 200cc dev times in time trials, but this track, even on 150cc, still infuriates me sometimes. The turns are too tight!!
