- Since my last attempt at TASing this game, they've improved the input recording and savestate issues to the point where a TAS can stay relatively in sync when isolated from stuff like save files.
Unfortunately, it still has its issues, which I was narrowly able to avoid thanks to saving some extra savestates at the start of the match.
As for the actual TAS itself: It's really basic, all things considered. Citra still has the bug where it erases all input for the frame a savestate is reloaded, which meant that I couldn't easily do complicated things even if I wanted to.
There was a number of RNG manipulations in order to get the hard challenges when entering the doors, and some smaller ones to get wanted stat boosts over others.

Many of you complaining about the lack of a final battle seem to be incapable of reading words on a screen: The final battle _would not have played back properly_ *because of the desync I mentioned at the literal start of the video*

Are you going to start doing Smash 4 3DS TASes for like Classic Mode or AllStar?
The fact that you ignored ALL that tasty loot, like custom stuff, trophies, other status buffs, MONEY, despitr being able to take all of it in a matter of 1 second for screen, triggers me soo much.

Smash Run is one of my all time favourite modes, I’ll never forget when I got max speed on Sonic and got the race to the finish event when playing with a friend
Oh they were, he was feeling pretty confident because he was using a speed Shulk set with Hyper Monado Arts. I remember I also had crash run on so I could just plough through everyone

I've always wanted to see a tas going as high as possible in the climbing final battle. I've always wondered if the maximum height caps out at some point of if it goes on forever

Yeah an I also wondered if the climbing Finale caps. I tried it with a jump Shulk once but I was constantly jumping into the red death spikes

If Sakurai ever decided to add just one more gamemode and it ended being Smash Run i'd definetly be very happy with that, this mode is very fun!
Smash Run was one of the few things the 3DS version had significantly better than the Wii U version
The only problem I can see is that it kind of relies on you being able to see your stats and powers on the bottom screen. Maybe they could put it somewhere on the HUD?
@@thebigdug In Kirby Air Ride the only way to see your Stats is by Pressing Start ( Which you have to unlock that ) and by end results it shows all the stats you get from here.

My God this is the last mode I will ever ask for Smash Ult. I loved this shit so much. With some extra options and people fighting each other on map it would be godlike.

Smash Run was dope, I didn't realize how much I missed it until now.
I miss this mode so much. I love how the enemies in it are enemies from the same games that the fighters in smash come from.

Smash Run's the best mode in Smash 4 imho
There isn't that much competition in Smash 4, but it wipes the floor with everything short of Adventure mode maybe.
The only things I'd like is to be able to select enemies, stay in the Run forever, select the bonus game and stuff.
They already let us choose what music tracks we want and that's massive at least.
I mean it was also the best thing in Kirby Air Ride.

That's not even an opinion, that's a fact (although i personally don't like how you just spend 5 minutes becoming an absolute unit just to end it in less than 1 minute of fun)
I still play this mode, it’s a shame they didn’t bring it back
I always played this mode without those special items and that's how I practiced teching when at high damaged range. Every time I play this mode, it's a different experience every time. It feels really exhilarating trying to survive all the enemies that attack you and it feels all the more rewarding when you don't even die. I miss this mode and wish Ultimate had it.

Most TASs manipulate the rng of the game so they can get the exact desired outcome.
@@Riku70X Not necessarily in this case. Some games have easier to manipulate RNG than others, with modern games being significantly further in the "others" category.

I did not know max stats were even possible in everything for Smash Run.
I still play Smash Run every now and again on my 3DS, and the closest I've gotten to this was 4 stats maxed and the other 2 both in the 600 range.

Smash Run was my 2nd favorite game mode next to Subspace Emissary.
Am I dumb or did we originally had 3DS TAS runs?
Citra (the emulator) didn't have save states until just a few months ago, so while you could play a game frame-by-frame, you couldn't go back to fix any mistakes. So, most people probably wouldn't bother making 3DS TASes until very recently.

@@AwesomeX WoL was a neat Adventure mode but it didn't replace Event Match...
@@ikagura It sorta does, we can now select over 1000 spirits to face off with and are allowed to use any character or play them in coop.
Plus being able to equip gimmicky spirits if we like.
Event Match is more ambitious in some ways and we can't select to face bosses in Ultimate yet but even if WoL isn't quite it. Spirit Battles are legit.

I've played Smash Run so many times that I was actually extremely close to getting 1k in all stats a few times.

(I'm honestly glad Doz,Claxis,Plutons,Crawlers,Armstrongs,Sio,Baglo and Guttlers aren't in this game.

Y'know, getting to max stats is actually easier than you think.
Just use Ness as he has the best kit for this mode. F-smash and PSI Magnet will basically reflect or absorb half the moves in the mode, double jump reaches very high and is floaty so it makes climbing up tall structures a piece of cake. PK Flash is so strong that it can even knock down the Reaper when fully charged. PK Fire is easy to control and hits multiple times so can get rid of enemies like Cryogonal and Polar Bear within seconds when spammed (and you know how much us Ness mains love spamming PK Fire). And last of all, PK Thunder can be controlled so it can hit flying or out-of-range enemies, as well as PKF2 being useful for similar reasons to Flash and double jump).
Something that should be taken into note (also seen in this video) is that if you go a platform in any four corners of the map you're more than likely to encounter one or more of the boss enemies, regardless of how over or underleveled you are. Quick tip: you can cheese these fights by using the Hammer power to gain a hammer and deal insane amounts of damage to them in one go, almost surely killing them in seconds. Make sure to stack this with the Invincibility power so that enemies with armor can't hurt you back while you have the hammer. Usually these powers let you use them multiple times, so by the time you've worn them out completely, you should've gained enough stat boosts that you'd be strong enough to take on the rest by yourself. You can also use this strat to cheese Bonus rooms consisting of enemy waves with Bosses in them and Crystal Smash challenges labelled "Hard".
That's about it, really.
Nice item plays. I had good times in this mode and Smash 3DS as a whole. The different powers were interesting, but usually I just focused on finding chests. Got in the tunnel at 5:00 once with a hacked mii and a lucky walljump.
Such a good run, your power was too much for a battle so they crowned you champion
this would be a really interesting mode to optimize. i know it's a straight 5-minute time limit, but how would you get all stats maxed out as fast as possible? what route would you take? what character would you pick? what if you used custom moves?

I love smash run so much! Have you ever/have you ever considered doing a kirby air ride city trial tas? There aren’t many out there but the ones that are are so awesome. Amazing work on this! I hope citra gets better tasing stuff sounds you can make something breathtaking in this.
Smash run was probably my favorite thing, I wish it was on the Wii U so I could've played it online. I know it'll never be on the switch.
