Mark is dead and Nick has been out of the band 20 years, glad Mikey got a chance to sing this live. Nick was on Dean DelRay’s podcast in 2011 where he talked about begging Josh to rejoin Queens. He told Josh, “am I crazy or should I be back in the band. Let’s go songs for deaf and hit em hard.” Josh’s reply to Nick, “well you’re crazy.” Nick blew his chance by going too hard and too crazy with drugs and alcohol. He freely admits this. And he plays probably 7-8 months out of the year since he was fired from queens to make a living. He knows he screwed up and has to live with it. Mikey might not be as good as Nick on autopilot but he’s a hell of a lot of more reliable and easier to manage plus he can play well. Nick lost and he knows it. He only has himself to blame. I saw Nick with queens in 2014 at the forum and he looked terrified and lost. He doesn’t have big band chops anymore. His talent only got Him so far.
Yeah it sucks tbh. But Nick's antics also probably just would've continued if he'd stayed in Queens. Genuinely feels like Josh grew up and Nick didn't.
while i'm sad that nick screwed up and josh is basically keeping him at arms length I can at least be happy at the fact they made amends & have collaborated both live and in studio since the initial fallout, so that at least leaves the door open for nick to at least contribute like Lanegan did once he left the band.
I mean it makes most sense for him to sing Nick's songs. They'll always be Nick's songs and no one will sing them like Nick, but this opens up possibilities of hearing loads of stuff live that we haven't heard in like, two fucking decades lol. It's a QOTSA song. Imo, if you're in QOTSA, you can sing any song in their catalogue. Mikey's voice is perfect for Auto Pilot too, would've been a shame to let the opportunity go to waste.

Reminds me of all the newbies that move to California from places like NY and Chicago, they haven't a clue of what it once was, so they think it's paradise.
