i tried to make a hardstyle kick, after 9 hours i realized it was completely bad so i started over. HHz speaks the truth, ears will fool you, i thought my kick was awesome, but after taking a step back and hearing references, i realized i fooled myself. i become very depressed shortly after that and took me a week before i could even look at Ableton again.
it's a creative process, which involves trying things. It's like art, there is no "why he used that plugin there and here" he just knows what the FX plugins do and then used his imagination with them
This is a part of an interview with him: First and foremost, I launch FL with the beginning of each little idea I have in my head, whether it’s a fast melody, or a drum groove to start out with. I Use FL Studio for that because I have found that the piano roll is by far the FASTEST way to “plot” my melodies and rhythms down because although I have an ear for it, I couldn’t “play” a melody to save my life.
Don't you guys think the sweetest part of making music especially now-a-days is that you can attain tools of a full studio and able to have it in your bedroom?. DAW's are simply life changing and I think Most DAW's have their pros and cons... As a producer/musician, don't just be entitled to one DAW...or one Synth, etc. Music is a world that anyone/everyone can explore, don't let your mind be set on one path that's been set by another, MAKE YOUR OWN!.
wow...it looks really cool...it's amazing the amount of editing that goes on from the original drum machine haha...my favourite sound is the combo of microtonic and with a bit of eq before chucking on a Filterbank plugin...mate it sounds solid to me...really stompy...definitely a more raw sound though, inspired by the hardcore kicks of today...
It really helped me to hear what the kicks sounded like for each step so I knew what to aim for in the process Step 1) he plays at 7:22 Step 2) is at 8:26 Step 3) 11:25 Step 4) 16:14
It's absolutely possible to make a good kick without those plugins, but I think drumazon and Logics standard effects is the way to go.. U can make a kick from any synthesizer, and all DAWs have some synthesizers plugin in stock ;)
The Veldt was completely written in FL Studio. AVICII still uses FL, even though he owns a Mac. Any DAW can be used for music. It's not about the software, it's about the producer.
When he bounces the kick after everything to work on the attack, decay, sustain, and such... how does he seperate the audio file into different tracks. I bounced my kick to a .wav as stated but my kick is only in one track :( does he slice everything up himself?
Send bus 2 to bus 3 change the output of bus 3 to "none" create 3 sends on bus 3 set every send's gain to 0 put 3 linear phase eqs on each of the 3 multiband channels (low 80hz, mid 80-1200hz, high 1200 hz)
FL Studio is just as professional as any other DAW. The reason it has the reputation of being a beginners program is because it's very user friendly, but not incapable in any way. Go listen to Yhimself/Archaeic, he's an awesome hardstyle producer who uses FL :)
avicii didnt change he is still using fl, and to continue the list BT, Savant, Seamless, Project 46, Feed Me, Basshunter, Ephixa, Tristam, Indivision and Toby Emerson.
I heard FL´s audio engine isn´t the best. Logic, Cubase and Ableton (I think Reason too) have more possibilities and cooler stuff. But in the end, you´re right, skill is what matters.
FL Studio heavily relies on what hardware you're using; audio interfaces and stuff. FL Studio runs using ASIO, while stuff like Logic and PreSonus use their own integrated audio engine (which is way better than ASIO)
or get venm since it has all the features of logics clip distortion. the main special thing about logics clip distortion is the simmetry fade which venm emulates.
true the symmetry usually isn't the same well on every different vst or au or plugins you get different things but not the same (no shit sherlock) lol but sometimes camel phat is better than logic's clip or trash sometimes its better for kicks than clip and camel audio some distortions are clean some are rowdy some add more presences well you get the point but you don't need clip distortion to make kicks just eq distort eq distort reverb band pass and eq then tweak lol but dont give up and dont forget to distort hard on the begining
the point about venm and clip dist is just that they have that symmetry fader to change not just the dist's but also the waveforms symmetry which makes them so unique compared to other distortions
its a good tutorial, not to be rude or anything, but if you want people to learn your going to have to use a wider arrange of software that most people are actually able to afford. FL Studio is a very good example and something most people actually have. Logic Pro is not a good choice since most people cannot afford it
well, ASIO is fucked up on my PC. It only sounds through the speakers (though my headphones are inserted correctly) and when I create a wav/mp3 file, it´s corrupt.
Does anyone else know any clip distortion VST? It's just essentially cranking up the sound until it peaks and there comes the clipping. I know Ozone 5's Maximizer does the job, but it uses a bit too much CPU.
Thanks for posting this, truly interesting... Still, he doesn't say WHAT he did, he is only describing the process. Can't see the plugins used and why,
If you want more crunch in your Kick you should use 'WhiteNoise Stereo distortion' you will get good reasults and you will be able to make it lot more harder then the normar clip distortion IZotope trash gives u.
Can somebody name all of the plugins he used to overdrive the kick? Can't see it :p. Not a logic user myself. I know he is using the clip disto and channel eq tho.
to name ALL of them you have to be in the studio with him and ask him to open the project and write down the plugins in order. There are multiple several ways to make a kick, this is one of them. OFC - hardware plugins are used in the final result -if u make the amount of money HHZ does, you will be able to get them aswell :) Also check Frontliners, Donkey Rollers, and even Toneshifterz tutorials if you want to copy a kick and dont make a kick of your own and learn how to make them by yourself, - as said they all work different but with the same "ground".
What are you talking about donker ? He doesn't use any hardware device to make his kick.. and even if he uses that you don't need it to achieve this kind of kick.. of course making kicks is really really difficult because you need experience and trained ears.. BTW the plugins he used in this video is Sonnox inflator to avoid clipping.. but it's very expensive.. you can use the logic's one bitcrusher as clipper ( it does the same things ).. other plugins used are : Channel eq, sonnox inflator(but you can use bitcrusher), gain, clip distortion
Well he says in this tut that he processes the kick through a hardware tapedistortion to get character. Ofc u don't need hardware stuff... thats not what i meant. Also: If u dont use Mac i suggest Venm vst, a clip distortion made for Windows.
The best speakers are STUDIO MONITORS for this stuff. No exeptions. well, if you dont have 10,000 for god ones, well, um you will get eqed music. oh well. lol
ASIO actually has pretty good quality, but it always tends to sound differently for me. What I do in FL Studio is I make my tracks using ASIO, and the mastering/mixing using my onboard audio drivers.
sample editor. Dubble click on the kick. Then ur in the sample editor. There u have to select the tail. Click "Factory" and then "Time And Pitch Machine". Try something like 200CENT or -200CENT. Then click prelisten to hear it. If it's OK, click "Process And Paste". Then u have a pitched kick! But before u gonna pitch, u gotta make a copie of it! Good luck!!!
... You DO realise people can use more than one DAW, right? Joel's used/uses Cubase, Ableton, FL, and whatever he wants. Any DAW can be used to make music and some people prefer the simpler ones. Doesn't mean it's a bad DAW if it's simple. Even GarageBand can be decent.
I'm reading the comments and there's always a discussion/argument over DAW's and Fruity Loops (FL Studio) is often hated on the most lol I started on FL Studio years ago. It served it's purpose, it got me started in computer music, electronic music, whatever you like to call it. I tried Sony Acid, Cake Walk, Reaper, and Ableton, and stuck with Ableton. I know people that have used it for years and swear it's the best and their tracks all sound the same. It's not a true DAW, in my own opinion. I use Renoise and Ableton 9, mostly Renoise now as it's much, much faster, and just all around a more efficient program over any DAW, but only if you use it correctly. FL Studio is most definitely a starter DAW...
Many producers use FL studio like Andrenalize... FL, Logic, Reason, all of them are just tools, it's up to you how you use them and what you make! Even with a pair of buckets you can play drums!
Navion DJ I'll take your word for it. I don't have a Mac and wouldn't buy one really. I stick to PC; Mac is too rich for my blood XD PC is better for my studio as it's cost efficient. I rebuilt my PC with quality parts and everything added up it's still cheaper than a Mac.
Fauxto Sell i got some nice programs, protools, nuendo, qbase, ableton, with some nice plugins you can make very good music, also you got adobe audition, works very well for making kicks and tweaking them! and yeah, there is not 1 program thats the best, but you have to look for software with loads of options, but not to much, i like nuendo and qbase, but i really like all of these in this comment, just search for the best in your opinion!
If I had a dollar for every pixel in this video i would probably have 55 dollars
+Gareth Richardson hA!
+NoiseTacticz Music I can't stop laughing..... thanks.
I'm your 55th like lol
Neoblaze no i am

lol
when the ustream logo has like 4 times better quality than the stream itself
it's a creative process, which involves trying things. It's like art, there is no "why he used that plugin there and here" he just knows what the FX plugins do and then used his imagination with them
It's insane how many equalizers and distortions he put in that chain lol
click 144p for better quality
LOOOL why it is working??
If he would make a kick tutorial now it will be about 10 seconds long.

2 weeks on a kick? that's why he's the best

Best 720p Iv'e ever seen
It really helped me to hear what the kicks sounded like for each step so I knew what to aim for in the process
Step 1) he plays at 7:22
Step 2) is at 8:26
Step 3) 11:25
Step 4) 16:14

he used to use fl studio and headhunterz used to use fl studio when he was younger practicing to be a dj
I'm kicking myself I didn't watch this video sooner.
We are the 26th of July 2018 and it's still a fking good mine of knowing from the master of hardstyle, thx Willem;
"And if you don't have logic yet, well... you should get it " hahaha i love you heady
The Veldt was completely written in FL Studio. AVICII still uses FL, even though he owns a Mac. Any DAW can be used for music. It's not about the software, it's about the producer.
Kaskade - Lessons In Love (Headhunterz Remix), Hardwell - Spaceman (Headhunterz Remix), Headhunterz - Reignite, Nicky Romero - Toulouse (Headhunterz Remix), Chuckie & Gregor Salto - What Happens In Vegas (Headhunterz Remix)
Best Clip Dist for Windows. Venm is really nice. Finally someone who understands Music Production :P
Software and Plugins used in this tutorial:
- DAW Logic Pro 9
- Logic Pro's built in plugins
- D16 Drumazon
- Sylenth.1 by Lennar Digital
stop talking about DAW's every DAW got their own special abilities.
yes your right the best tool to make music is the ears.
I love his kicks... KRWRAUM KRWRAUM KRWRAUM KRWRAUM
When he bounces the kick after everything to work on the attack, decay, sustain, and such... how does he seperate the audio file into different tracks. I bounced my kick to a .wav as stated but my kick is only in one track :( does he slice everything up himself?

Frontliner uses cubase for production and logic for kicks
clip distortion is not like logic exclusive, Izotope Ozone 5's Maximizer does the same thing if used right.
avicii didnt change he is still using fl, and to continue the list BT, Savant, Seamless, Project 46, Feed Me, Basshunter, Ephixa, Tristam, Indivision and Toby Emerson.
i use logic pro almost exclusively and have nothing but respect for fl studio
not at all, basics are still the same in FL Studio for example and most of the plugins are available as VST for PC users too ;)
i tried many plugins in logic and the one that looks the most similar is "speech enhancer" which also made my kick fatter, so i think it might be that
5:42 "Relax Heady... Relax..."
Oh man. Thanks for that information!
I heard FL´s audio engine isn´t the best.
Logic, Cubase and Ableton (I think Reason too) have more possibilities and cooler stuff.
But in the end, you´re right, skill is what matters.
ik ben zo blij dat hardstyle uit nederland komt, later als ik 16 ben ofzo, kan ik naar al die party's en shit
What program is he using?
ouuuu mi love head hunterz, u have a tutorial for reason 5?
I keep trying but I just cant get them sounding as clean as how yours are! I wish I could though :)
what program is he using?
FL Studio heavily relies on what hardware you're using; audio interfaces and stuff. FL Studio runs using ASIO, while stuff like Logic and PreSonus use their own integrated audio engine (which is way better than ASIO)
is he used this kick in one of his tracks? if yes, name plz :) really want to hear how it pitches.
I feel like I'm talking with him in Skype *_*
Each DAW has it's advantages
If you dont have Clip distorsion in Logick. Take izotope TRASH and give it setting - CLip distorsion ;)
true you get kinda the same as you would with clip distortion
or get venm since it has all the features of logics clip distortion. the main special thing about logics clip distortion is the simmetry fade which venm emulates.

true simple explanation
Does sombody know what he uses in the first channel beside the Channel EQ, Gain and Clip Distortion? thanks =)

16:14 I could just listen to that ALL DAY LONG
well, ASIO is fucked up on my PC.
It only sounds through the speakers (though my headphones are inserted correctly) and when I create a wav/mp3 file, it´s corrupt.
Okay, thanks, but I´ve got a question.
When you´re exporting, it´s still using ASIO and has therefore lower quality on the exported file?
logic is 200 now, it's more affordable than a lot of DAWs
Oxford Inflator- is the right answer. Oxford Infl - in Logic
right on dude! Enjoy!!
2020... JAJAJA
i got my KRK RP6 Rokit G2 yesterday and i am totally the same opinion!!!
Does anyone else know any clip distortion VST? It's just essentially cranking up the sound until it peaks and there comes the clipping.
I know Ozone 5's Maximizer does the job, but it uses a bit too much CPU.
Venm from Goliath.
And Frontliner ;)
one thing i hate is not having studio monitors... i make great kicks from my speakers but listened from monitors they suck LOL
Great!!!
Does anyone know what plugin heady uses under the gain plugin on the first channel strip? :)
thanks for uploading this ;)
adrenalize , atmozfears , arkaine , rebourne , and alot of other producers do
Venm by "Goliath Sounds" sounds 1:1 like The Clip Dist from Logic. Trust me. I used both of them and they're Identical.
FL maybe not 100% professional, but it´s still a good music studio.
Thanks for posting this, truly interesting...
Still, he doesn't say WHAT he did, he is only describing the process.
Can't see the plugins used and why,
I have KRKs and they work AWESOME for small rooms
Well deadmau5 doesn`t use FL Studio i think. He uses Ableton
If you want more crunch in your Kick you should use 'WhiteNoise Stereo distortion' you will get good reasults and you will be able to make it lot more harder then the normar clip distortion IZotope trash gives u.
+cas blokhunt that is windows only, right?
+Royhaven12 Is a buzz effect adaptor plugin ;)
"Avicii in studio" He used FL Studio...

Also:
If u dont use Mac i suggest Venm vst, a clip distortion made for Windows.
Anyone figured out everything in that effects chain yet?
Why does he use so many EQs? Does it sound different than if he just used a couple or even just one? Why cut frequencies just to add them back?
Sounds different!
It''s weird but effective.
you EQ the distortion. not the kick itself. so every distortion EQ makes it sound different I think
did you know avicii, porter robinson, afrojack, madeon, deadmau5 use FL Studio?
wich program did he use
Logic
The best speakers are STUDIO MONITORS for this stuff. No exeptions. well, if you dont have 10,000 for god ones, well, um you will get eqed music. oh well. lol
hahaahahahahahahahah ,that was so funny!
im not giving it away, now it's relased...
it's called VENM by Goliath Sounds
what for programe he use
ASIO actually has pretty good quality, but it always tends to sound differently for me. What I do in FL Studio is I make my tracks using ASIO, and the mastering/mixing using my onboard audio drivers.
13:22 zika esse bass
here i download this programe?
as if FL isn't widely used by many famous producers...
Noise Gate?
and how the fck do you pitch that thing
Keletho!! :D
wat
Adobe Audition
Cool edit pro!

Yeah!!!! I just used it in my new kick and it sounds amazing!!! Check it out!!!
explain the kick in fl studio please
hahahahahah you are so funny man!!
pretty damn sure hes ableton all the way lol
da tweekaz to
logic pro
yes, you can cut the wav file in Logic, or copy the wav file in different audio tracks and make them longer shorter ;)
"Oxford" could match the first word, the second is unreadable
Don't give it away dude! people are working hard to make it!
Martin Garrix to ;)
Nope, logic studio

Omegatypes make own track to in to FL same like BAssmodulators :p
Navion DJ yeah i know, but its not for windows, and my reply was for a windows user ;p
