I have worked with architects that only care about the inside… we came up with a plan for like a month and not once did he talk about how it would look. Then he gave me elevations and it was all funky without balance and not symmetrical nor asymmetrical balance just awful to the eyes… I then took the same floorplan and played around with window arrangements and roof lines and eventually we came up with a nice looking house that was actually arguably better… big waste of money… I now design them myself on sketchup and then hire draftsman and engineers by the hour to draw it up for final permit set.
Architects are a dime a dozen. The expensive ones just charge more and still come across as rookies who delegate the drafting to project managers who often cannot draft a straight line to save their own life. And they have the more fragile egos the more they charge. Get an architect that listens to you and understands your emotional response to design. Most are just getting paid a lot of money to design something they like not that you like.

Really helpful video! Can identify with asking myself "what was I thinking"...
There's no perfect house but am glad that yours is 99.9% there for you.
Yes, it's possible even for experts in the field to make mistakes! Thanks for sharing yours.
Would have been cool to show us your house during the video.
You should trim this into under 60 seconds. It would fit.

I just want you to know that I am definitely a Jazz however I am not messy in any respect.
our budget went up a 100k ....lol ..living in the real world.
Did you only build a 1 bedroom home on your main living or did i take that wrong? Thanks for the video, we are in the process ourselves
We did 2 bedrooms on the main level; the master suite and 1 additional ensuite. Good luck with the design....it can get stressful:)
Having ground floor bedrooms in a family home is so strange to this European. We sleep and bathe on the upper floor(s).
