I remember the first time I played this game as a kid, I spent 3 days maxing out all 3 stats, before completing the first dungeon, one blob at a time...
A lot of online game walkthroughs and faqs referred to a technique called the TILAI (treat it like an ironknuckle) which supposedly made the game easier. The TILAI is the dropping stab used on the iron knuckles, done at the right time, hits the head and the legs making a sure hit on a blocking enemy... and you use it with such finesse Valis77... I just hope you take the time to see the fans you're racking up here. Kudos, man.
Wasn't a huge fan of this game as a kid, but gosh the theme that plays when going into houses is one of the most simple, yet wonderful tunes I remember from my adventures in the 8 bit era. Pure nostalgia.
a footnote for longplayers: if you go up to the doors of the houses with the up thrust and down thrust and look (B button) it gives a message. one of them is "There is someone behind the door!"
3 days straight is nothing. Play it in 1988 when you are 7 years old and the internet isn't there to give you any hints. It took my dad and I playing for a year to win. My favorite game of all time. The gold colored cartridge was unique and the save game feature was not common at the time.
dude THANK YOU for doing this video back then I loved this series growing up this game took me forever to get far in I NEVER BEAT IT because the Nintendo had a save problem wich was if you were playin the game and the power in the house had a blow out THAT WAS IT IT WOULD ERASE ALL SAVES ON THE GAME 5 OUT OF 6 TIMES so you would have to stratigicaly plan when you played these games IF MOM RAN THE BLENDER YOU WERE A DONE COOKIE or like what happened to me DAD RUNNING A HEAVY POWER TOOL//
I've already congradulated him enough growing up. He's your age now and still remembers it. Somehow he got through this castle without getting many gameovers. He just slaughtered those tough bird knights with the upward thrust. He even beat Dark Link without knowing how to use that cheap ass corner trick. Incredible...
ValisHD, Thanks for an awesome Longplay, as much as I love the Zelda series and played Zelda II when I was 7. It was just an impossible game but I still kept going back to it! The last time I remember playing I managed to get to the big boss with the Ball and chain and kept dying. :( But excellent work Valis! I know it's not much but many thanks for the dedication to make the long play. :)
Oh man, I think I remember why I didn’t finish this game as a kid. I killed the final boss then shadow link showed up and that was it for me. I thought it was cruel to not give me the ending after that last boss and unfair to give me another one. This game gave me mixed feelings. Can’t say I liked it but I almost finished it. I liked the music but hated the map interruptions and repitivenes.
0:00:51 To quote the Nostalgia Critic, "F*CKING BUBBLES!" I hate those stupid things! Those, those bony fish that shoot rocks, and the Hyena looking guys in the temples that drain away your EXP. Such an awesome game... so many stupid, unfair enemies.
I recently re-got this game because i was ripped off by ninty, now because of this exelent playtrough im gonna finally finish this beast.. Back when i was like 8 this game was way to hard.. When i was 15 me and a friend played it three days straight.. not getting to the end.. Love this game! Own three copies of it now.. Whoopee..
I can't, I'm 31 and don't know how to age in the opposite direction. Give your brother a congrats from me :0) Heck of a hard game with no outside help. Still fun with hints.
The Adventure of Link (Zelda 2) came in multiple cartridge colors; the most common being gold (In the States at least). An image search will confirm this. Your English is very good, so you must have mastered the language after you mastered Zelda 2.
Eheheh no. Zelda 1, for NES, has the GOLDEN Cartridge. Zelda 2, this game cubex55 has just played, has normal grey-coloured cartridge ;) This game is my favorite game EVER. And, of course, when i played it the first time, i was 7 or 8 years old. No internet, no hints. Consider that I am Italian, and, even the cartridge for NES was sold in Italy, it was 100% English language. So, I had to manually translate all the words.. XD
Is it really a coincidence that the current lead singer for the classic rock band Journey shares his first name with the kind of rock-throwing, snake-like creature who moves like Octorok or Rope?
whats the trick for the firemages?? you guess where they will appear almost 100% of the time so you can jump a little before and we all know they are random
You start over with all the level ups you got but none of the items or heart / magic containers. Reaching level up just refills magic or health, your choice.
Fun story. I was a kid and got through the whole game up to the last castle, where I got lost. All without a guide. Then one day I was at a Toys R Us and watched a demo of this game being played, and saw the part where you're in the last castle and drop through the pit in the middle of the lava room. And I immediately thought "Aha!" and went home and tried it. And that led me to the end. Also I never discovered the little trick to beating your shadow, but I just did it so often that I got really freakin good and beat my shadow fair just by being better. That's how video games used to be. You would go all the way through a long level and die, then have to do the thing over again to get another shot. It was pretty brutal.
That's True. I ended the first zelda without a guide. took me countless hours though. i actually left the game running so i didn't need to start over. back then no game save of course
Evil Twins: Garth and Michael in Knight Rider, KITT and KARR in Knight Rider. Mr Nash and Ernest in Earnest Goes to Jail!!! Link and Shadow link---committing suicide..or killing your self(evil twin) to save your girl!
I bet you died on purpose at 1:26:58 to refill your magic for free at the cost of a life. Haha. I don't blame you. The Great Palace was very hard and it took me nearly two hours to beat. Also, was the key necessary at 1:30:18? You don't even get to use it.
yea, I don't know how someone can get so good at this game. The dodges, the stabbing skills, keeping track of where you are in the Palace mazes. I just revisited this game recently on an emulator, and I suck at it. Could i be I'm using keyboard rather than game pad?
danpt2000 I Played on an emulator as well, the timing needs to be perfect with the jumping and all that,it takes adjusting. As for the mazes, google their maps on Gamefaqs.
I agree with that one guy about the left side trick. Sad. You go through the whole game and you cant even fight him man to man. Sad. Back in the day my friends and I would take turns on the last guy cuz no one could be him but me. No left side trick! Sad
Tom Salewski You know what sad is...coming to a video trying to act like a bad ass and sounding lame...congrats on being an ass.............................sad indeed
The game was a huge disappointment for me. I remember wanting this game so bad and that Nintendo kept delaying its release date. I bought it the day it was released and played during the fall '88 but ultimately gave up. It was so dull and tedious and hardly any fun. Man, I can't believe it's been 30 years..
I remember the first time I played this game as a kid, I spent 3 days maxing out all 3 stats, before completing the first dungeon, one blob at a time...
Akito Scorpio Lol, how did it go? xD
Akito Scorpio I remember grinding those bits and bots as a kid. 2 points each
Google patience, and your name comes up.

In the end, the biggest battle is with yourself...
by cowering in a corner telling him to go away while flailing with your sword.
This game makes any entries from the Dark Souls series look like a walk in the park. Let that sink in for a moment.
That was some miraculous survival in the fifth palace. I was on the edge of my seat for that final battle.

One of the greatest and most underrated NES games
yes but very long
That was worth a good watch, since I haven't played this for about 20 years. I always thought that was so cool that your final enemy is yourself.
One of the most satisfying feelings I've had playing games is when I beat this. No help involved, just a lot of hours.
pretty good wandering monster style in this game, how they big ones and little ones appear
a footnote for longplayers: if you go up to the doors of the houses with the up thrust and down thrust and look (B button) it gives a message. one of them is "There is someone behind the door!"
The knight who taught Link the Sky Thrust is secretly Mario :3

I'm glad to see you used keys to get through the doors rather than use the "Fairy" spell to get past them. :)

great job ... last level was awesome

1:06:16 OMG monsters can appear everywhere, even around towns like that. It proves Link can get no rest at all, not til he beats Dark Link.
I guess you can say its bad luck for Link
That's exactly what I mean.
Or maybe it was abandoned due to monsters
BEST 3 HOURS IVE HAD WATCHING A GAME VIDEO
Too bad you needed the corner fighting method for the final fight. It's a really fun battle to play AND watch when you fight him out in the open. :)
Yeap! True. I am happy to have been the first one to put the open fight technique on UA-cam. :)
Takes down the Fallen Angel WITHOUT 'Shield' or 'Jump' like a BOSS!
I recently re-got this game because i was ripped off by ninty, now because of this exelent playtrough im gonna finally finish this beast..

These sounds bring be back to before i even know whats going on.
My older bro beat this game at age 7 by himself in less than a year. Beat that.
So many hours of my life.
i know, it's way too long T_T
This guy is the man
The noise of Link walking through a swamp (or water) makes me laugh.
It's a cross between "progamer" and "programmer".
Hard game

random encounter bgm gives me hives
9:30
Use JUMP and leap off the screen, then use FAIRY before Link comes back into view.
I jumped when the giant blue thing fell on your head. Both times.
After so much, it would have been an insult to give him any less.

How da hell you get so good at this game.
Is it really a coincidence that the current lead singer for the classic rock band Journey shares his first name with the kind of rock-throwing, snake-like creature who moves like Octorok or Rope?
The final Temple is so fucking long. I died like 10 times in that place
thank god that i had the nes classic edition
AND A REAL HERO
REAL HUMAN BEING
THE DEVIL DOES NOT LIKE NOISE
Nice.
this game is great, just needs to calm down on the difficulty
whats the trick for the firemages??
you guess where they will appear almost 100% of the time so you can jump a little before and we all know they are random
How do you remember where to go? I would be so lost.
hint: he was memories so much that where to go.
Did you take a super long path thru the Great Palace on purpose? Seems like you did a full clear.
Yeah, this channel tends to show the full content of the games.
@ValisHD
I'll take that as a reluctant yes.
""GREAT, I'll grab my stuff""
I was under-Leveled when I reached the First Final boss..
y u no upgrade sword first!!? i remember leaving the first castle with a level 5 sword and all the following enemies would be much easier
"Pay no attention to the kid and lady behind the curtain!"-wizard of oz!!! Their possibly making out behind the blue curtain!
LITTLE OVERKILL THERE AT 10:38 roflmao
@cubex55 I can't believe you did it. I haven't beaten the game. What happens when you replay your file?
You start over with all the level ups you got but none of the items or heart / magic containers. Reaching level up just refills magic or health, your choice.
There are so many common things with super mario. The ending is like:
I'm sorry zelda is in an another temple.
Kékesi Christopher Zelda is right at the start of the game though.
How do you torch the woods? I only get that flute melody...
A button once you have the hammer
Dont understand cant get into the castle and all my stats are maxed?
DAMN LINK! 2:15 proves Link's into older women too :P
32:04
Cast FAIRY and you can go through any door.
2:17 xtreme cougar alert.
the final temple music is boss
It has a lot of flaws, but it's not a bad game
After the greatest longplays I've ever seen, full of amazing gameplay, you cheesed out on the last boss?
Cool
not possible to end without a guide as a kid.
Fun story. I was a kid and got through the whole game up to the last castle, where I got lost. All without a guide. so leveling up Life doesn't give you more hearts, then what does it do?
Pretty sure it reduces the amount of damage you take
yeah, amps up the defense. you get more life by finding the big hearts.
Evil Twins: Garth and Michael in Knight Rider, KITT and KARR in Knight Rider. Mr Nash and Ernest in Earnest Goes to Jail!!! Link and Shadow link---committing suicide..or killing your self(evil twin) to save your girl!
why cant I get the spell from the town of darunia he says come back when your are ready?
alexander mogensen need all the magic containers first
Como quitastes los arboles?
i didnt know this game resembled super mario 2
lol it seems 2 people who watched this vid didnt finish the game before seeing this XD
oh man, is this it? Is Valis going to be the first person to put CD-i into the Longplays collection?
I bet you died on purpose at 1:26:58 to refill your magic for free at the cost of a life. Haha. I don't blame you. The Great Palace was very hard and it took me nearly two hours to beat. Also, was the key necessary at 1:30:18? You don't even get to use it.
I defeated Dark Link and I don´t approach the wall
I feel myself 10 years old again, that music is sooooooo great,I think it was 1989
Valis77 is awesome. Quiet.
1:33:30 seriously, "programer"?
What happens when the curtain goes down??
+don'targuewithme They get it on but it can't be shown lol :p
ha ha
everybody finds out that zelda 2 was staged and didn't happen. PLOT TWIST!!!
SCROTUM LORD hahah
5 People have a serious problem!!
1:28 Did that woman just turn into bat?
Eyes of Ganon are everywhere. Be careful.
The game where link GETS the girl! X__X
After the most excruciating journey in the whole franchise, he deserved it so much! Haha.

As for the mazes, google their maps on Gamefaqs.
wanded I feel that the keyboard is not very sensitive sometimes. Overshooting in movements, missed jumps even though I pressed the button.
I didn't have those problems, try a different ROM and keyboard
Next generation consoles can not keep up with it!
I agree with that one guy about the left side trick. Sad. You go through the whole game and you cant even fight him man to man. Sad. Back in the day my friends and I would take turns on the last guy cuz no one could be him but me. No left side trick! Sad

becuz he is not a little bitch like you
danpt2000 ouch no need to be so harsh brah ...
59:36
34:01
Never beat this when I was a kid. All I can say is that was probably one of the most disappointing final boss fights I've ever seen.
If you don't know the cheap strategy then it is pretty epic
Rofl
LOL
youre supposed to sheild up on serious fights so u dont spend more on life
Lol

Good looking out on the upload. But this was painful to watch. Your defense was terrible.
