This is another option! Hold down the knock and thread it through. That can also help if you are struggling with feeding lead through the chamber. But it if there is a jam, it might just snap it off at the tip of the lead sleeve.
I do this sometimes to work around taking out an eraser near the end of its life, where it's hard to remove to access the lead chamber. It's definitely not always ideal, because you nay be dealing with very thin lead, or very long lead sticks (economy Papermate sticks are like 5 inches long sometimes) which will feel like surgery trying to insert the lead without snapping it.
Same. I came here to look for "more elegant" way to do it. I can't ever get the lead to come out of the tip using the chamber method idk what i'm doing wrong
COMPLETELY agree - college degree: check. Career in Tech: check. Reloading mechanical pencil lead: uh-oh. Finally found a thickness I liked, and when it came time to for a refill, I was stumped. Thank goodness for Clutch!
🙂 Same here. Before this, I wasted 6 minutes and 15 seconds of my life watching a video about a Papermate Clickster pencil, and the guy never told how to load it!
I spent a good 30 mins trying to figure out how to refill the lead and I just clicked on this video. It was surprisingly extremely helpful and it worked in seconds. Thanks.
This is one of the most useful vids I've ever seen. I had no idea the erasers come off most mechanical pencils! If the pencil doesn't come apart easily, I usually try shoving the lead up the tip; sometimes this has worked; sometimes, not. In my experimentations, I also discovered that pencils have different sized leads, which (obviously) makes a huge difference. I am very grateful for this demonstration, for I can't tell you how many mechanical pencils I've given up on and tossed--often broken from my efforts--into the garbage. Now I know how to refill them, I just have to figure out how to advance the lead on some of them!
I agree, thank you for this video. I have Bic Velocity 0.7 mechanical pencils. They only twist at the tip where the one lead feeds into the tip. I cannot figure how to add lead or replace the erasers. 🤷♀️
Thank you, thank you! It's been so frustrating trying to add lead to several mechanical pencils and not wanting to break them trying to know how to take them apart to insert new lead and feeling stupid for not being able to figure it out! I really appreciated this.
Thank you for this video. The first pencil you demonstrated was the trick for replacing the lead in a Bic Velocity HB#2. Even then, I had to push the eraser end to pull out the old lead as it wasn’t coming out on its own. After that, I just clicked the eraser until the new lead fed down into the pencil. I love it when I can find these great & simple instructions on UA-cam!
How do I make the lead come out for the first pencil? Cause I'm trying to get the lead to come out on that one, but no matter what I do it won't come out. Yes, I've checked if there's any extra lead blocking the way.
As a general rule for myself, I only have 1 lead in the clutch, and 3 in the lead chambers. Anymore than that, you're asking for a worst case scenario to happen. My worst case scenario was when I lent a friend a Classic 90's Blue Pentel Quicker Clicker, yes the one that the Channel Author is so fond of, with a bunch of lead in the chamber, and he lost it! I was super upset that he lost something so classical. Now I'm down to 1x Classic Blue Pentel Quicker Clicker in my collection.
@@kamenriderblade2099 good that you learnt your lesson, I just had my first ever mechanical pencil like a few months ago and I'm really really protective of it, it's not even anything special, just a Faber castell mech pencil

Thank you, I kinda ruined my previous mechanical pencil because i tried to jam the lead into the tip of the pencil. thanks for a usefull quick tutorial!!!
I never thought that I would ever have to watch a five minute video of how to refill seven different types of mechanical pencils... but HERE we are 🥲🥲🥲😂🤣😂🤣
Why don't they provide a detail illustrated user manual when they sell these? 😓 Also it's already tricky to figure out the proper use for beginners, why on earth they make the body design even more trickier on top of that? 😕😕 Thank you for making and sharing this video with all of us 💕 I have previously given up using mechanical pencil due to not knowing the effective using method. To be honest, I dreaded it. However, I have recently bought one to give it a try again. Thanks to your clear and concise explanation, this time I am feeling hopeful about being on a friendly terms with my mechanical pencil 🧡💛

Pentel Twist-Erase XP's seem to defy all reload attempts. You can have lead in the chamber, but once the lead is past the clutch, nothing reloads from the chamber. It just sits in there like a storage compartment. The ONLY way I have found to reload these pencils is by removing the front cap and manually feeding the lead into the clutch from the tip.
