Mind = blown. Had Sir William Buthorn for 6 years and he got jammed and would not work. Our relationship ended and I felt I was seeing other pencils. It was clearly an unhealthy relationship. I was devasted and william started rusting and hanging out with other broken pencils. It was a bad crowd for him. I felt like his life was heading to the garbage. Now that have seen this video William has made a full recovery. Now I can use him where ever. I'm not ashamed to take him out in public cuz our relationship is not in a ..... jam anymore but I think we have made our.. point. 😄 so to.. draw a conclusion we have a healthy relationship and the future can be... written to our desires. Thank You,
Sometimes jams can further back in the channel that those tiny lead jam clearing rods just won't reach. I've found the perfect remedy for that -- piano wire. The thinnest come in a diameter that is smaller than 0.5mm, so you can get a segment of that and snake it through the channel. This is essential for clearing up lead dust that may have caked up in the channel, as will tend to happen with older pencils.
I've had my Rotring 800 for over a year now and just recently dropped it point first onto my desk. I've been trying to figure out what was wrong for about a week now and watching your video got it fixed within the first 5 minutes. Definitely appreciate it.
If the lead is jammed in tight, a clearing rod simply will not work. The solution is to use a sewing needle (a proper tool) which is MUCH tougher than the flimsy cleaning rods. The needle should be ROUGHLY THE RIGHT DIAMETER (0.5/0.7 etc) in order to keep it straight when you pass it through the tip-guide. Whilst keeping the button depressed, use the needle's notoriously sharp & hard point to gradually destroy the lead until it all shakes out as dust. When the needle will pass right though the clutch AND you can see light right through the pencil, thoroughly clean it out tapping it a few times to shake the dust free. BLOW THROUGH THE PENCIL WHILST OPENING AND CLOSING THE CLUTCH A FEW TIMES, and it should be as good as new. With a cheap pencil you have a small risk of damaging a plastic clutch but most good pencil clutches are metal.
Artistic Sloth Same I also have a Graphgear 500 0.5mm, it has a lead stuck, and for the past year I still couldn’t get it out.. this mechanical pencil doesn’t even comes with a metal rod to take out the lead..

Another great video.....but my staedtler pencil is still jammed. Not sure what's down there....probably too much lead. Is there a longer tool? The pin on the other side of the eraser is just way to short. Thanks for all the help!
Are you saying the lead chamber at the top feeds the lead ready to use? I thought it was simply a place to store leads. I've always refilled my pencils by pushing the new lead up inside the nib.
Hello! I have a Mechanical pencil from Muji which takes 0.3mm lead. My question is, should I be able to see through the whole at the tip of the pencil when I remove it? I believe there is a jam in the head because I can not manually insert 0.3mm lead into the head of the pencil even when it is detached. What do you recommend I do?
My Alvin drafmatic(?) has a small piece of lead stuck in the very end and it won’t come out. I’ve tried putting a needle in it, soaking in water, even using a air compressed to try and blow it out, and nothings worked.
Hey! My lead pencil has a really bad jam where a tiny piece is stuck in the little nib, but I don't have any needles/pins that are thin and long enough to reach it? Is it a lost cause?
old vid so im not sure if i can get some help. But what do i do when the lead falls out? I try to write but the lead just gets pushed in loosely with any pressure at all. Extending it also makes it just slip out.
That's usually really bad news. It probably means you have a clutch not fully engaging, or really heavy coating of lead dust on the clutch. If you can replace the mechanism, that is the best option. Of course, not all pencils allow that.
@@ClutchSituation i cleaned it, so i suppose the clutch doesn't hold. It's a Faber-Castell pencil, doesn't seem like there's replacement for parts so new pencil it is.
Hi I know this vids is 2 years ago but please help me i have staedtler mars micro 775 and the tip is clear. My problem is the chuck it doesn’t want anything in
Get rid of the clear point. They are not of quality for the price you pay. Try to get a pencil like a uni korotoga or a zebra del guard which have brass clutches for not that much more.
My Alvin Draft/Matic is jammed. I unscrewed & removed the metal tip and I can see that I have 3 pieces of lead sticking out from the clutch. How do I clear this? I don't have a jam-clearing pin. Do I need one?
you need a tool to clear. If not provided w/ pencil make one. Find wire right diameter, or use safety pin. You might need to spend 15 minutes sanding down diameter.
All you need is a metal wire that is thinner than the inner diameter of the pencil you have. As I suggest, a pin or needle would work if it is skinny enough.
What the fuck are the chances I click on this video to fix my mechanical pencil hasn’t worked in months and I pop it right open and lead start coming out 😂
I know this comment is old but you can take a twist tie that you can get at your local grocery store and remove the outside paper until you uncover a tiny thin rod. Or you can use a single staple. So you have to stick it in the tip of your pencil and try to push out the lead. Push as hard as you can. Once the rod goes through then take out the extra pieces of lead form the Bach of your pencil.
Clutch Situation, I was using my Parker Jotter mechanical pencil, and their is a very nasty lead jam, if I add a refill, it never comes out, and it does not advance in pencil, I have tried everything I could and it would not fix, if you want I can submit a video for you to see the issue.
Parker pens are closed mechanism and its too hard to clear jams. I can put leads on front but not from back. And if I put 2 leads form front the first lead is going to trapped in the mechanism
