- Subaru has revealed the 2025 Forester at the 2023 LA Auto Show. It’s the next generation of the Forester with totally new styling inside and out. While there's certainly some pros and cons for this new generation that I share in this video, potentially the most interesting part is that Subaru announced a Forester Hybrid will be coming in about a year. Until then, what do you think about the regular 2025 Forester?

dont know if you agree, but the front looks like a carbon copy of the last gen pilot, and the rear end looks like the 2012 mitsubishi outlander
The cutouts for the exhaust remind me of blank switches on the interior, but on the exterior to show everyone what you didn't purchase.
Haha yeah, I'm just hoping it means they're planning for an XT version, but I'm not holding my breath lol.
@@MattMaranMotoring The bronze actually made me think of a STI but it would be pointless for them to R&D a turbo with ICE going away.

Glad they're resisting digital clusters but I hope they've improved responsiveness of the infotainment.
I hope so too, but based off the 2024 model year screens, it's still the same as ever.
It still has a delayed response. It’s disappointing considering other manufacturers can pull off a highly responsive infotainment monitor.
It will be interesting to see what they do with the hybrid. I heard some scuttle about using Toyota tech, but that is going to be an interesting combination with the Symmetrical AWD. (Maybe that goes away). Toyota, in RAV 4, uses purely electric motors in the rear to produce "AWD". If they can maintain the capability, it would be fine, but if the hard core off-road and snow users find that the electronic AWD is less effective, they may take a hard pass. Moving the HVAC controls to the touch screen already makes me want to take a hard pass. I have a '14XT and a BRZ, and love the simplicity and ease of use with the three big knobs for climate. I was hating the touch controls for HVAC all the way back in the '00s when driving a friend's Prius. Toggling up or down one degree at a time is ridiculously stupid.

I’m underwhelmed by the 2025 redesign exterior design.
My thought: the biggest issue is the fact the Forester is underpowered. They did not address this with a turbo or V6 option. I think my 2014 6 speed is the last Subaru Forester I will own as this AWD 2.5 CVT is not responsive enough for me, especially at the price they are asking for a fully equipped Forester. Time for me to check out the Kia and Hyundai turbos or the Ford Escape Turbo.

With the recent massive price hikes on the new Crosstrek, I am terrified to see pricing of this.
I feel like Subaru is looking at old SUVs and stealing styling from those old cars.
I am charmed by the fresh-looking design of both the interior and exterior. It seems to have skipped a generation but remains immediately recognizable as a Forester. It’s unfortunate that the digital instrument panel is limited to the second generation of the Levorg (JDM).
I see Subaru is still putting buttons into the touchscreen. This leaves the brz as the last Subaru with a good interior
I’m actually glad Subaru’s bringing hybrid back. I hope it’s not the current gen e-boxer stuff tho.

Correct, its styling is…unusual. That’s on purpose, and while some buyers will balk, it’s got more top safety picks than Honda or Toyota, and Subaru fans only care about how things look at the trailhead.
The downgraded center screen is a deal breaker.
I remember the good ole days when the Forester was a cool wagon, available with a manual transmission and a turbo ( STI variants in some markets). No sense waxing nostalgic, most new models have become boxy SUV.s😢. Is this really what consumers demand?

Despite its flaws, I'm just really happy that it still comes with a physical twisting key. If it is alright to ask, can you get the twisting key on the premium trims, or is it just on the base model like the Impreza? Thank you Matt! :)
I assume only the base model since a fob is $300-400 and lots of reduced features to hit the lower price point. And anyone getting the higher trims would not want something as ancient as a physical key.
@davidmccarthy6061 honestly for me I would still prefer a twisting key ignition over push button start even on higher trims because I have had nothing but problems with push button start on 3 of our vehicles
I have no problem with a the push button start. I remember when you needed a key, plus push button on the dash, or one on the floor board using your foot to start the vehicle.
The wilderness model better look really good! Or I’m going for a forerunner or Land Cruiser

Matt at the beginning you say "2024 Forrester" but the title of the video is 2025 Forrester.
Im looking for a new SUV in this size range, & have had others tell me to think about a Subaru. Not sure how much I am dazzled by it. That new Toyota thats not been made available, you reviewed, looks interesting. Ive got a 4dr truck & an extremely large 4dr SUV diesel, orId be looking at another teuck like the Maverick, due to mileage & cost. Insurance & property taxes on all these vehicles are getting out of hand w/this "Tax the Middle-class" mentality of both States & Federal gov.
Insurance companies charge me for vehicles I don't hardly drive, & it's getting frustrating.
They are partnered with Toyota, boggles my mind why they wouldn't have Toyota do a hybrid transmission for the boxer engine.
Hybrid is much better than throwing out the gas models. Can you imagine a brown out and not being able to charge your vehicle? Until that is fixed, put a halt on electric cars.
The excessive front hang kills this vehicle.
I just ordered a 2024 Forester some 4 weeks ago, 8-10 week delivery. I'm glad I did. Just by viewing this video I'm not impressed. Going all electric is another item. I'm age 71 and I never want a total electric vehicle.

Hmm, it looks like a Ford now. I thought my Ascent was ugly but this one won that title. I need a 3-row SUV Hybrid. Hurry up with Hybrid tech Subaru. I might ditch you for a Sienna Hybrid next year. I love Subaru but the lack of Hybrid and on my Ascent I'm getting 13-17 MGP avg on 44k mileage is abysmal. Been driving my wife's car more often because I'm getting 50+ mpg on that no matter how hard I step on the gas pedal.

They traded hp for torque. It needs more torque than high rpm hp.

This looks like a Toyota. It’s got Toyota all over it from the Rav 4 looking headlights to the Rav 4 and highlander body lines and proportions. I don’t see much of any Subaru forester vibes until you look at the interior. Very strange.
The 2025 has a great interior except of the non-real leather seat covers. The vehicles needs more exterior chrome trim around the window frames and door handles. The Bronze wheels are horrible! I would rather see polished aluminum wheels and full-size spare tire in truck.
I hope Subaru will offer a beige or tan interior with both a black, Navy or White exterior.

Will skip this and wait for the BEV version. And hopefully, although unlikely, by then we'll be able to charge in all the out of the way places Subaru owners go.

I know 2 ppl with a Forester. Both women over 50. This car will be fine for them. They won't notice any of the things you mentioned.
It's easily one of the most tacky SUVs, but remember... there's a few people that bought the eclipse cross... They might find this quite quirky and jump the gun.

The bronze is not nice looking, different, but not pleasant to look at.
So. Much. Shiny. Gloss. Black. Ugh. PS As an owner of an Outback with "cooled seats" I can tell you that they are barely functional, with just a dribble of air even on maximum strength, as were several others that I test drove.
I don't want a Hybrid or a EV.

No digital gages and that 11.5 vertical screen hasn’t been updated which is ugly still and interior feels boring and lazy design smh

Yeah what can I say Subaru is dead to me, so sad…… in my opinion I think Subaru is trying to take the safe road and it also looks like they’re copying other platforms from previous generations like from Ford I see a lot of Ford explore….Toyota however has knocked it out of the park in my opinion!

Subarus are for uninspiring people in the Northwest, and Northeast that don’t care about style and design, that just want a rolling appliance. ….and they wear those god-awful North Face vests too!! 😂🤔🤷🏼♂️

Such a disappointing release, Subaru has lost its way. No performance increase from the current gutless Forester, bland styling that looks like a Ford and people dont want to control everything through a giant screen. Longer length with the same wheelbase means worse approach angle and 19" rims are worse for offroad performance. Subaru is creating suburban mall crawlers not adventure rigs anymore. 😢

Agree - follows the logic of the Ascent (ass-end)….. bland, no character at all. Too bad.
At least the hybrid is coming so it might help with the power
@@mitchellsteindlernot plenty. I test drove one of these things and it was an absolute dog. Lack of power was a deal breaker for me. Merging on a busy interstate would have been a problem.
@@wtfx5757 that's ridiculous. I can merge in my 1996 c220 with 140 hp and a 4 speed auto. You don't need that much power.

Each Forester getting more and more ugly. Subarus are getting from disappointing to more disappointing.
