- The #SubaruForester has long been one of the top-selling #Subaru models and for 2025, the fully redesigned 6th-generation also introduces the first-ever #ForesterHybrid powertrain. The #Hybrid will launch about a year after the gas-only variant, but on the inside it also gets more tech and comfort along with some luxury items to finally bring this model a bit more upmarket.

I know that there are a lot of people hating on the design and features. HOWEVER, I've been a die hard Honda CRV fan for a long time and if anyone dropped the ball it was Honda.. no pano sunroof, no ventilated front seats, no heated rear seats half digital gauge cluster, small infotainment screens.. I think Subaru knew what people want, more bang for your buck! I'm definitely leaning more towards forester now for next vehicle
I loved my 2003 CR-V, but could not bring myself to buy the 5th generation CR-V (2017-2021) based on the drivetrain and unsightly design. The 6th gen is just too big. Their HR-V now has a larger footprint than my old CR-V.
Props to Subaru for stepping outside the box. But… the front looks like Ford and Honda had a baby.
Exactly what I thought
When Explorer meets Prologue...
From a distant quick glance it looks like Ford suv ..
Exactly my sentiments
I wish they brought back the Forester XT.
Everyone seems to want the XT but it did not sell all that well. You can sign me up although.
@@markwetty2269 I completely agree, but it seems like the Outback XT is there to fill that void.
It's just not worth the added cost. It was way too expensive for 80 more horsepower. That's why it didn't sell well. Same with the legacy. Outbacks will sell no matter what. Just get rid of the sluggish 2.5 already, lol.
I think it just didn’t make a lot of sense. To me the Crosstrek, Forester and Outback overlap more than a lot of other brands do so it probably didn’t make a whole lot of financial sense which is why the outback gets it. I actually think subaru should make the Forester and ascent more SUV-like to differentiate them. The Forester is more like a weird wagon/suv so the proportions have always made it an odd shape.

Yup he does 'em quick and to the point. Nice work as always Sofyan!
@@braetonwilson4296 That’s good 😊
@@fernandoherranz4095 I’m glad you appreciate his work! 😊
Subaru makes the necessary upgrades to keep its primary buyer happy. An XT trim would be nice, but not expected
Too bad it's so slow. A 2024 Toyota Corolla LE sedan is 2 seconds faster zero to 60 compared to this 2025 Subaru Forester.
Other than the WRX or some outback XT buyer's, people that buy Forester's don't care about 0-60. That said, I get what you're saying and agree 👍
@@lions208436 It doesn't need to be fast, but the 2.5 is glacial. Even like a 1.5t with some solid low end torque would be better. Just look at the Nissan Rogue.
That is what it is missing the XT on this forester sadly
The hybrid version has the potential to placate the XT crowd. Most hybrid trims for other manufacturers increase HP & torque over the gas only trims and I would expect no different from Subaru or they would be wasting their time developing it. If so, it has the potential to be their most popular trim.
I'm glad to see they finally did something with the fender Wells to make it look meaner and I can't wait to see the Forester wilderness
The back end looks great imo, but the front is like a mix of Explorer, Pilot and Seltos
That front does seem to completely ditch the Subaru design language they've built. Was rather disappointed from that perspective. Cover the Subaru logo and you'd have a tough time telling it apart from the newer Hondas.
The back looks like the rear of the 2014 mitsubishi outlander
Hi there, thank you for your review. Does the sunroof tilt open to vent out? The previous generation did not, and when I owned one, it was one of the most frustrating things. Do you know if this one only opens or if it opens and tilts up to vent pls? :)
I spy the AVH button defaulting to always being present at the bottom of the Home screen, looking forward to that update on my Impreza RS! I noted that depicted on the “Getting Started Guide” of my car and figured it was coming down the pipeline. Nothing too compelling about this updated Forester, still a good, solid pick for a compact/midsize Crossover.
I wonder if the Forester will still be made exclusively in Japan like the prior gen. This thing also looks much better in videos than it does in the press release photos.
They messed up the WRX and not it's the Forester turn.
The Forester Premium is still one of the best values in Subaru and in the auto market. I don’t expect that to change. However, Subaru would have helped itself working with the base engine some. Even if it was only 10-20 hp and torque. I had a 2014 and it was so slow. There needs to be an optional engine. Hopefully, the hybrid gets it to at least get 210hp.
This thing actually looks great; it is well proportioned for its price point and purpose.
Can you please tell me since there is no heads up display will navigation be seen only on the main screen or can i see it also on the dash board ?thank you looking forward to this model
i like that you're outpacing raiti's rides in views even though you have less subs. mad props my brother
Does the touring trim come with auto folding mirrors like the Outback?
A very nice looking vehicle but as has been the case for a while, it is too underpowered. The XT was probably too much power for most (I would have been happy with that one, currently own an Outback XT) but really, the Forester engine has needed better performance for a while. Too bad because I really like what they did with the look.
That was my first impresson too: very nice looking on the outside & inside with huge windows for great visibility but too underpowered. A vehicle that weighs 3600-3700 pounds needs a more powerful engine. A base model Toyota Corolla LE can easily defeat this Subaru Forester in a race.
What this weak motor needs is more torque and power, maybe borrowing from Toyota and implementing 2.5 hybrid system could be a good option..
The engine is fine. It's a grocery getter and offroader. If it's fast enough to get you a speeding ticket, it's fast enough period.
Completely agree - we love our ‘22 Forester but when we have the kids and luggage, the car is almost dangerous on ramps or when passing.
Its right in line with things like the rav in terms of power, though the hybrid is an interesting option
Soyfan, the rear seats do recline a bit. There is a cloth loop in previous generations by the seatbelt attachment point.
I like the look on first glance but I’m unsure about the shoulders on the front fenders. I have to agree with others that it’s time that they addressed the lack of power issues as that would be a deal breaker for me.
Love it but I want to see the hybrid because is coming with Toyota's system. Great review!
Very good review , I like your fast descriptions and give only the facts and no bs. Subaru has come a long way since I bought my 1977 and 1980 subarus. Would I notice the difference if I did a test drive now. ? lol I drove my 1980 for 14 years before it was totaled.
I'm grateful to see analog clocks on the primary gauge cluster. Also glad to see the vehicle hasn't grown much at all. Its size is a unique offering compared to the Outback. I like that it's shorter in length, but taller in height and hopefully narrower than the Outback, same as before. Those seats look nice. Overall, far less ugly than previous generations. I'll be considering this in a year or two!
It definitely looks Comfy, Spacious and most importantly it’s got more precise steering from WRX 🥳
Front end gives me Ford/ Chevy vibes. Especially with the headlights. But I like the boxy look
I believe the rear seats can be reclined. The present model has a short strap at the bottom corner which, when pulled, can let you recline the seat.
It is definitely a huge upgrade from my 2010 Forester, as it should be with being 14 years newer. Lol. That said, I would be interested to see how much better the seats are. Mine is not very comfortable on long trips. The elephant in the room is the serious lack of power. I can hardly pass at highway speeds and it is ridiculous. They really need to bring back the XT! I'd seriously consider buying that one. I do hope that the hybrid at least brings some power. From a buddy who has the Rav-4 hybrid, that at least has good power and great mileage. I am more swayed towards that than the Forester.
Ditto on the seats. My wife and I found them to be too narrow. The Forester cabin is plenty roomy for my 6'2" frame but having wide shoulders the seats don't cut it. We have a 2005 Honda Pilot with better seats but they need help too.
wouldn't a bigger wheel equate to a lower mpg from the last model?
I own a Forester, Legacy and Outback. I love this design and look forward to purchasing a hybrid in the future. Thanks for a great review.
Ive had a Legacy, Outback and Impreza in the UK, id like another Subaru next year although not sure what yet. Great workhorses and very comfortable to drive anywhere.
@frankofva8803 if you want a hybrid, get a toyota. They've perfected it. Personally, I'll save the up front costs and get a subaru. Much more engaging ride.
@@steve8803the upcoming Forester Hybrid is getting Its tech from Toyota because they now own roughly 1/4 of Subaru, but it won’t be released before the new redesigned RAV4 comes out.
The car looks nice and all but what's wrong with Subaru using incandescent bulbs for the rear turn signals?? It's 2024/25 already! I really hope that they incorporate full LEDs for the final launch.
Subaru we're not asking or expecting 300hp out the car model but give us atleast 220hp / torque
They should throw the BRZ engine in it. But in this segment, 180hp is average.
It wouldn’t be a top-of-the-line Subaru, without incandescent rear turn signals🙄
Rear return signals. That's new!
@@frankb5603hehe he edited it out😂
Incandescent lighting for the rear turn signals and reverse lights is extremely common in this segment, so it’s not a surprise there. Nearly every entry, aside from the CX-5/CX-50 have some form of incandescents in the rear.
I find it odd that Subaru doesn’t complete the job and put LED rear turn signals. I see that the BRZ has them.
That interior looks like Death.
I’m glad that all of the seating area’s are all Brown instead of the bolsters in the death black
Is it going to drain the battery as well?
Thumbnail: First ever hybrid! Video: Not hybrid!
Nice!!!! Might have to get one! Design is so much better.
0:57 FB, not FA. This is the FB25d. FA is performance or turbo (BRZ, Outback, WRX) FB series is for everyday cars (Impreza, Crosstrek, Forester)
What software paywalls will come with the new vehicle that will require subscriptions to access the equipment/technology after a short defined period of time? I am willing to pay annually for my XM radio subscription, but to not want to pay for any equipment on my next car that will require a subscription to access.
You can unlock turning the steering wheel for just $24.99 a month. The first 6 months is free when you buy the vehicle.
Awesome and thank goodness they kept the analog physical gauges!! Although not a fan of non-physical climate control buttons.
Thank you for the sharing 👍🙏😀
So much better looking than the old Forester!
Does it have heated steering wheel?
Booked mine today at Openroad Subaru, Boundary Road
UK has had the e-boxer hybrid since 2020 MY, can't wait to see what the 25MY hybrid is like.
Similar styling cues to the CRV but man does Honda do it so much better
On the Subaru subreddit, people were making fun of the exterior design, especially the front grille, and comparing it to the Ford Explorer.
It really does look like a Ford oval on the front
The front end look more like honda passport than the explorer from my viewpoint
Yup that was the first thought I had when I saw this. Ford Explorer up front with some of the new KIA/Honda styling in the rear. The rear does look better- so happy they got rid of those dumb looking lobster claw taillights- but overall I'm not a big fan of the external styling. The interior does look a bit better I have to admit though. But everybody will likely wait until the hybrid model becomes available to buy. Not sure why anybody would buy this without the hybrid option. Offers no really compelling new features if there's no hybrid. Why not get the old design '23 or '24 if it's an ICE and save a bit of $$$?
Now I'm starting to see the KIA Seltos in the profile. How many SUV designs did they rip off for this? Get a '23-'24 if you want a slightly cheaper Forester when this thing comes out in the Spring. Bruh, people have been clamoring for a redesigned hybrid version of the Forester. So they released this.
OMG now I'm seeing the Chevrolet HHR. I need some aspirin.
When the hibrid / plug in version would apear ???
First question that came to mind, where is the XT?
Absolutely! We want it back!
Let the XT dreams go. It ain't happening, or not until maybe later anyway. Not enough folks bought it when it was available. And since fuel economy is becoming even more important to car buyers, I see slow moving (tiny) Subaru shifting over to higher horse power in the Forester via its/Toyota's hybrid system rather than offering a turbo.
@@fernandoherranz4095 The price for the XT was the killer. Just not worth what they wanted for the turbo.
Great. Bigger size but an actual reduction in HP? Looks like I'll be keeping my 2018 XT Touring a while longer.
When is the release date?
is it still a symmetrical awd?
I prefer the styling on the previous two generations.
I’m surprised there are no hybrid options across all of their line up at this point. Isn’t Subaru partnered with Toyota? (I know the Crosstrek has hybrid for some reason lol )
Basically a HEAVY refresh
will be 100 % build in Japan?
Thx for nice video 👍 nice looking interior, I wonder if they subaru sort out windscreen cracking issue, and adress oil burning, leaking fault on there's boxers??
Old cargo space used to say above 35 cubic feet just behind RAV4 but now says only 28.9. Looks like no one talking about losing cargo space with rear seats up and only talking about seats down space.
Yay! Another underpowered SUV!
How much horsepower do you need in a vehicle?
Just to put it in perspective, a base model 2024 Toyota Corolla LE is noticeably faster than this 2025 Subaru Forester Touring
@@dennisscipioAt least 300 should suffice my guy
2024 Foresters have only been available for a short while. I'd be surprised to see 2025's by next spring.
This spring
If they can fit the turbo in the outback they can fit it in the Forester. Come on subaru
They are just going to skip the turbo with new gen and go hybrid, most likely.
What a beautiful and sensible improvement in style and features added, if only they could increase the naturally aspirated horsepower and torque. That would surely complete this wonderful utility vehicle.
Is there a programmable button to open the garage door?
probably similar to the 2024 - you have to get the HomeLink Mirror option (also includes a digital compass)
The blind spot indicator light should be placed on the actual mirror itself. The way Subaru located it on the side of the mirror is distracting.
the more reason to keep my 14' forester XT
Agreed. I'm keeping my 2017 XT. My next will definitely not be a Subaru. Never thought my 2017 would have better personality than a 2024. Sad.....😢
Now the forester is perfect
Great job, Subaru! That's the best looking Honda Pilot in years.
The car may be all new, but that prop holding the hood up never seems to get old or is it ????
Good review as always. Good job from Subaru as well, the new Forester definitely will be a hot seller and great news that finally it will be a hybrid version !!!
Is this one made in Japan or N.A?
They need to get in the ballgame and make a hybrid sooner rather than later!
Subaru should have brought back the turbo engine as an option.
In Outback and Wrx there is
Nice Ford Escape/Edge styling... Complete with an oval blue badge.
No wilderness edition?
The Subaru Forester rear seats do recline, the 2021 Forester I have also reclines.
Looks a bit like the wheel cover of a GMC Terrain- I definitely don’t like that- but love the rest of it. Interior is nice:) I have had two Foresters, 2012 and 2018XT which I drive now and won’t be buying this model due to the more generic front and wheel coverage. Awesome review per usual!
Definitely the best looking one yet. The front grill is much more proportional to the size.
It looks 90% identical to three or four other small SUVs. Without the emblem I’d have no idea it was even a Subaru.
very nice looks
It's The Glove Box lien with felt 😂
is the CVT tried and true reliable at this point? I know its cheaper to make than a traditional auto but seems like Subaru and Toyota are all in to CVT now.
It’s because of the fuel economy
i get the upsides, im just thinking more about whether I would want reliable engine over fuel economy@@bigbufobufo
The only gas model
Toyota that uses a CVT is the Corolla (all others use a conventional automatic including hybrid Maxx models). The regular and plug-in hybrids use an eCVT.
The “D” pillar is fairly thick, cutting down on the rear visibility.
They mixed up trims between the US and Canada. In Canada, Touring is 2nd in line trim and Premier is top of the line. Canada trims are Convenience, Touring, Sport, Limited, Premier
Perfect City + Family SUV
Redesigned Camry and Forester? A good year for people who hold up the passing lane.
With that engine, they have no choice....
@@PerroneFord they can know their place and stay to the right 🤧
@@2Kriss2Kross Yea, good luck with that!
The RAV4 should be added to that group, slow as cars don’t want to move over
we dont need a fully digital screen the gauges look really clean and easy to read all wee need
The entertainment is the only thing I don’t like. Physical mobs for heat are better in my opinion. If I had to go with one it would have to be turbo model if they have one.
It looks to be as big as a Honda Pilot now.
It's not the first ever Subaru Forester Hybrid. You could have gotten the Hybrid version in Japan, Europe, and Australia I believe.
In Europe a mild hybrid is offered, but I think it can't move electrically. It's a tiny battery helping the ICE engines which always runs.
Foster?? It's Forester
Yea.......But it had only a tiny power train and one mile EV range..........Paul
The best looking forester by far!!!
Why are they still using incandescent lights? Just make everything LED like every other manufacturer. Hopefully they will get their lineups in the hybrid category soon. I do like the style better than the previous year.
Incandescent lighting for the rear turn signals and reverse lights is extremely common in this segment, so it’s not a surprise there. Nearly every entry, aside from the CX-5/CX-50 have some form of incandescents in the rear.
I see there is plent y of room under the hood for a turbocharged boxer engine
Love Subaru, I wish I have enough money to get 1 Forester 2025 Hybrid. ❤️
It's a Subaru Pilot or like the last gen Pilot from the front.
Exactly, unless it's a hybrid fuggedaboutit. It's not a sports car with the four banger; however the hybrid will be more energy efficient depending upon the drivetrain integration (electric motor and technology). First generation hybrids seem to be clanky like the Hondas. Toyota has the best and newer 5th. generation hybrid system in their 2024 models with proven technology over two decades.
i sincerely hope regenerative braking will be possible. also, the ability to switch to full EV mode for stop and go traffic. i know its not a plug in but it helps.
Looks like they finally were able to come up with a nice looking design.
So mad about my 2022. This car has fixed all the things we want in our 2022. If they do a trade in, it’s a done deal .
Subaru made some pretty dramatic upgrades and redesign to the Forester and made it even more appealing than before. This is truly excellent value. If I can overcome my hesitancy with a CVT, this could be my next car come next spring!
CVT Is a DEAL BREAKER for me
It’s not a Nissan CVT let’s take it easy…
If it'll make things better, subaru CVTs are the best out there. Better than toyota and honda CVT.
@@BID4882 Who says that exactly? No literature I've ever read has included that statement!! I'd love to read your source if you've got one.
The drivetrain is exactly the same, so what more AWD capability did they promise?
Nice, this design should have been the previous model, this one looks like all other SUVs in market, Nothing new!. But for Subaru it is big change, I am glad they did not mess up this one. They should think of re-designing in a two to three years from now.
Halogen lamps in the rear..😮 very disappointing. Why? ...
finally! cooled seats!
