  • The gearbox from the E46 330ci had the dreaded 5th gear lean so new detent pins and shift bushes were in order.
    I replace the main detent pin bushes and springs for reverse and fifth gear and check the rest for failure.
    This process is the same for the earlier E36 zf gearbox.
    Thanks for watching!

    Tried this job myself a few weekends ago, did exactly the same as I tried to knock the bushing into the bore it opened up slightly and once I tried to get the shape back it was ruined. At least the bushings are cheapish. Thanks for the video!

    Did you go to the N24 last week? Kept an eye out for you but obviously didn't see you.
    What a shame with the 5:32 stop/go for the Manthey Porsche.

      Sadly we didn't make it to the N24 this year. We're booking next year as we speak. The penalty was harsh but fair in my opinion but the race between the audis was fun to watch.
      Fantastic recovery by the manta too!!

      Yeah it was fair, but still a shame.
      The atmosphere was awesome when the Manta came back out! All the Teams in pit lane were cheering along with us fans on the BMW grand stand.
      Truly a race of attrition right from the start though, felt like hardly anyone made it past the 10h mark. Also R.I.P BMW lol

    Damn I crossed my fingers for you when we talked about the detent pins on your previous video, bummer you had to go replace them. Thinking about any other upgrades to the shifting mechanism? Short Shift kit, double shear selector rod, or shift linkage rubber? great vid as always, cheers

      In the end its not hard to do and the box was out anyway. No harm, no foul. The car has a stiffer stabiliser Bush to reduce slop but nothing more. The DSSR is a lovely bit of kit but I am cautious as to its real difference 🤔, they're not cheap!

    Hey great job! Is there a size of tap that you could thread those (fine thread works the best) That and having a bush driver with a shoulder to drive the bush and another shoulder to contact the case for proper depth. Oh and by the way this is probly the most coherent zf gear box video good work

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  4 роки тому

      You could tap them yes. I can't remember the size.. As for a bush driver... There are technical drawings online showing the exact dimensions of such tools so they can be made. 👍

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 роки тому

      It's not too bad. But you do need some very long extension bars to reach the upper bolts.

  • @Mikesg80

    Does the e46 M3 transmission not have those bushings... just the pin and spring for both sides (reverse and 5/6)

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 роки тому

      Im sorry, but I've not taken apart the M3 E46 box. Going by RealOEM I would say no as I can't find the sleeves listed with the detent pins. I'd have to pull one of the detents to be sure though.

    Hi thanks for your video
    Did you now what the 6th pin
    (The one next to the two large pins reverse and 5th gear) ref 23311224823 is not on the kit?
    The pine is sold alone without the socket and the green plastic caps and nobody change or clean it..

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 роки тому +1

      I'm sorry, I'm not sure. It seems to be another detent but it's slightly different with the roller end. I would assume that this pin hasn't frequently failed and therefore doesn't get changed as often. Sorry I can't provide better info.

      @@jo098 I read somewhere that it is a detent that keep the trans from popping out of gear and a very low failure item. Very little info about it out there which to me mean leave it alone. :) . The sleeve in there is PN 23-11-7-533-394. Found a couple guys talking about it at Bimmerforums post #45 webspace.ringling.edu/~dplassma/bmw_diy/shift_pins/shift_pins.html

      Pamo Ah my comment might have been confusing. Sorry. When I opened the first detent pin bore on my box I noticed it had already been done, like in this video. The second and third however still had the big pin and no sleeve in the bore. So there might be gearboxes that have a mix of big and small detent pins.
