Been watching a few of these conversions as I want to do this to my mower. One guy opened up the front of the mower to more readily accept what it was cutting and the brush and weeds being cut were less bent over making for a more quicker and efficient cut. Basically fishmouthed the opening as you drive forward. Love the idea you have shared.
It’s people like you that make dreams come true you seen what you wanted and made it happen no matter how many people said it couldn’t be done great job and you get my thumbs up on every phone I can use
+Jay Hansen Wouldn't an overrun clutch work just the same as the bypass valve? Probably not cheaper but less work. And instead of shear bolt you could also use a pto clutch as well.
I like it. Seems to cut better than lots of the purpose built $5,000.00 units for skid steers. So many of them that I have watched bog down in grass like that. They have to go very slow or are going forward and back or taking a half width cut. I am building a 6' one from my King Kutter 3 point. It will have an 8 in motor for the 23 gpm.
Well I used a skidsteer mount plate with a lot of welded on brackets. I called surplus super center with my flows and line psi and they told me what hydraulic motor to use! Don't know if it would be the same one? As for a u joint that also depends non your brush hog and motor. 3/4 inch hoses 7' long
I finally found a beat up 72” bush hog, I’ll order all my parts from the surplus center tomorrow. Where did you find that U joint coupler with the shear pin? That’s what I need for The 1 3/8” shaft on the gear box of the bush hog. Thanks for your video it is the best one on UA-cam and I looked as a lot.
Great job. I need to build a sander bucket attachment. I have the Cat242D --I am going to use a hydraulic motor to drive spinner. so of coarse a motor that handles 3335 PSI. the specs say 20 gpm flow. so should I purchase the pump close to as flow rate? or does that matter as you said your motor was around 6. Thanks for the help'''
Can you update us on the bush hog? How is it holding up? Could you post another video cutting some bigger stuff? I'm planning out the same project, thanks for showing me that this is possible.
dutchofsc I watched this video in preparation to doing one of my own. I have a couple videos of mine cutting some heavy grass and weeds on my channel if you are interested.
BigIronTV How is your mower holding up? What was your pressure and flow? Which motor did you go with? Anything that you would have done differently? Thanks for the reply, I'm looking forward to this project.
just picked up a case 1845 skid steer, and want to do the same thing. did you also get the universal joint drive from surplus center?. Also thanks for sharing your info ,I own a welding company in Hawaii needless to say we have a lot of greenery to mow, Awesome job!!!
@@joequint I’m finishing up the complete rebuild on my 1835C case Skidsteer first but I’ve partially built the brush mower housing and got suggestions form surplus center on the hydraulic motor and pressure relief valve. My Skidsteers GPM is 16.4 at 2700rpm so the hydraulic motor suggested is item number 9-7368-125 and the relief valve number is 9-8745. I have 3 gear boxes I can choose from for the mower drive so I’ll experiment and see which one works best. Thanks for your interest.
Nice video, Jay. I want to convert my PTO bushhog to one like yours simply for better visibility. Surplus center told me the correct motor for my tractor but I'm really interested in the performance vs the PTO. Are you pleased with the power and torque so far? Any complaints?
Looks great! I have about the same gpm as you stated on a similar unit. Do you remember the hyd-motor model number? That would be a great help. Thanks Clint
Clint Terry The motor will very depending on your hydraulic output. You will need to know the gallons per minute of flow and the operating pressure at your maximum flow. I called and told them the flow and pressure and what output rpm I wanted. Then they calculated the displacement size of motor that would give me the desired rpm at the specified flow and pressure. I used a char-lynn 2000 series with an internal cross flow valve so I did not have to put the external valve in for spin down.

That one way valve is genius.
Short and sweet, and to the point!
Good job!
Thanks thats nice I search google for a diy brush hog thank you youtube need more original people like you,

Skid plates on sides will make it safer n more stable. Nice job, works great!
Just completed mine , thanks to yours, and others videos, it was a great help
People that say it can't be done, are the same people that can't think outside of the box.
"surplus center" is where I got parts and pumps, I told them machine flow numbers and what I was doing and they gave me right pumps!
+Jay Hansen Wouldn't an overrun clutch work just the same as the bypass valve? Probably not cheaper but less work. And instead of shear bolt you could also use a pto clutch as well.
can you give me more specs for the hyd motor
not get much help from sur center
Cool, very innovative! Of course they tell you, "It can't be done," because they want you to spend your money on their products.
Very nice. I am planning to build this myself.

Definitely can be done. My uncle used to have one of these on his 963 bobcat
Nice work. I love ranch/farm built equipment.
Could you possibly make a follow up video on how you lined in the one way? Awesome idea

I found it a local welding tractor Fix-It shop but I'm sure tractor supply company has it or a tractor implement
Do you have a part number for the pump and valve control block?
Very nice build.
is the valve just a hope pipe?
Very cool, I was thinking of doing the same thing. Do you have a parts list available? Nice job!
That’s awesome idea where did you say you got your hydraulic motor from I would like to build on for my mini excavator

What type hydraulic motor (model)used
What pump model. Thanks cannot find a 6.2
Nice job.

Did you ever try and do something like blackberry brush with yours? Wondering how it would hold up to something like that.
Thats a awesome setup. Can you share the part numbers from Surplus Center? I see PTO Hyd motors motors. thanks,,,
I know this is 10 years old lol but does your hydraulic motor have a case drain that you left plugged? If so any issues?
Ya I dunno what that even is?
Was gonna do the same thing. Nice
Is your check valve installed so it flows from the return line to the pressure line for the shut off spin down?
wouldnt work very good if it was installed the otherway around hahah oil would never turn the motor

Did you end up building your brush cutter? I also have an 1845c. I’d like to know the specs on what you used

where did you get your u-joints?
WOULD THAT WORK ON A REGULAR COMPACT 30 HP TRACTOR
Is it possible for you yo post the pump info
Thanks for the information. Very nice...
Were did you find the u joint connections for pto shafts
A local tractor welding place in Viroqua Wisconsin call tollefson Welding Supply
