Rich wasn't thinking about rain on that sunny day when the orangery was demolished.
Now we pay the price...but what's another damp wall between friends ??? 🤔

🏆👩 About us and our goals 👨🏆
We are Gill and Richard and we are both British.
In 2004 we moved from England to Austria. At the time Rich promised me that we would return to the UK asap.
In 2021 we were still in Austria and by chance we heard of an old unloved Victorian cottage for sale in Wiltshire, England.
The cottage was only just within our budget and we knew that it was going to be a challenging renovation project.
Our goals were "simple"-
1) Buy the house
2) Split our time between Austria (Rich's job) and the UK
3) Renovate and move asap
4) Retire to the UK and live happily ever after
These plans were delayed in February 2022 when Rich's employer asked us to move to Texas for 1 year. The plans were further delayed in March 2023 when Rich was diagnosed with cancer and he had to undergo 6 months of chemotherapy
In October 2023 Rich's cancer was in remission so we moved to the UK to start the renovation.

It will be a great peace of mind to have all the guttering replaced and know rain won't cause anymore trouble. Regarding the scalloped edging at the rooftop - is the plan to have that scalloped edging around the entire cottage, including the side of the house (angle seen at 17:50)?
@tracybush8115 Hello Tracy, you are right. I finished the front today (that will probably be the next video). Yes, we really like the scalloping and it shouldn't be hidden as it is on the side of the house...plenty of work and plenty more videos ahead. Have a wonderful weekend, Rich

Oh Rich! Please ensure you always have someone at the bottom of the ladder with you. So dangerous doing it on your own as one slip and that could be it..... Gill is too young to be a widow. 😂😂😂
@SW-cu6bw Hello Sophie, are you saying that it would be safer if I landed on Gill ?😉😊 But seriously,, normally I agree with you, but in this case I have spikes on the bottom of the ladder to avoid slipping (I would love to say that with age comes wisdom...but the day I had at the cottage today (part 2 of rain gutters...you will see the video soon) will make you realize that it's not always the case as far as I am concerned) Have a great weekend! Maybe you could you use the wooden edging on the greenhouse instead, then it would be more visible, and put new material on the roof, just a thought🤔

@@Bramblecottageuk the answer is larger (wider) guttering and at a more dramatic angle so any debris getting in there will be taken away... Though a compost producing gutter is hard to beat...
@@koningbolo4700 You are right Koningbolo. I have replaced the front gutter with a deeper version. I kept the angle the same but I covered the gutter with plastic netting to keep the leaves out of the deep trough. It should be good for a few more years now ;-.) best wishes, Richard
