This was where reading to cutscenes actually led to helping with the right dialogue options and had some form of countermeasure in place.. I got destroyed in a few turns for agreeing with a Lucha Libre Goddess of Wrestling.. No really..
@Grass No. He's damn stupid as well. He would rather attack Berserker in melee combat with a strengthened stick to save Rin, something that had 0 chances of success, if Nasu wasn't a hack writer, than attacking Illya, who, as far as he knew it, was a defenseless little girl without her servant. He frequently endangered his own allies with his reckless behaviour, not to mention countless civilians. He is stupid and inconsistent, just like the plot itself, for the most part. Nothing meant shit because Nasu would rewrite the rules of his own damn universe every second turn for Shirou to make it to the end. The thing with Shirou is... he should have died, the end.
IchCharacter He primarily went after Berserker because of his lack of self worth. When Shirou sees someone in danger, he's instinctively compelled to help them. Even if it means endangering or hurting those that care about him, he has a compulsive need to help others. Selfish? Sure, that's something Archer mentioned during their battle in the UBW route. Mentally unstable? Why of course, that's why he has a Reality Marble. I certainly wouldn't call him dumb though. As for Nasu being inconsistent, I've got no rebuttal there. He constantly changes how stuff works, creating literal wars between lore nuts over what's canon and what isn't. The story of Fate/stay night is FAR from being a masterpiece, but I personally really enjoy it for what it is.

It's also based in canon - when Rin mentions wanting to take Shirou on as an apprentice, his first thoughts on how his living arrangements will change is he'll be stuffed into a cupboard under the stairs.
The best part is, if Saber actually convinced Rider that Other Saber was summoned in the Saber Class (And therefore has a decent Mana score at the very least), she'd be saving him from being insta-killed by Rider's petrification eyes, which would have been the easiest battle every if Shinji wasn't such a terrible master.
Slimeustas The Slime King Yeah.. They told us that only one saber are summoned to connect two holy grail wars so I don't think he's lying. But anything can happen really.
Archer makes every scene he's in a thousand times better. I mean, everyone in this abridged is fantastically voiced and written, but Archer in particular stands above the rest.
I second this very strongly. My hat's off to Logan - he does a fantastic job every time he shows up! I never thought there would ever be an English-speaking dub where someone could remotely even compare to Suwabe Junichi... but 5 abridged episodes in and I have to say Suwabe-san has an equal.

I love how there are constantly incredibly well written lines that feel straight out of an actual anime, and that they're so well written is half the humour when they're right next to "I know what that pain in your chest is... it's pain". Archer giving this hypothetical about Hitler going back in time to kill himself is something that tells us so much about Archer as a character, and then it's like "damn, you've got strong hands!"

@@serendipitousdestruction5266 A very good detail. It does show how Shirou and Archer are exactly alike, but Archer (Emiya) has grown out of some things. He became a hero, and he doesn't have to tell himself or the world that he's a hero.
This dub is absolutely brilliant. I find the writing to be better than in the actual show. You drastically shorten the plot, fill it with comedy while still keeping everything coherent. This abridged series has the Emperors seal of approval.
The writing is better than in the actual show because they aren't trying to fit in source material with more words than LotR into a two-cour anime. F/SN will NEVER work perfectly as an adaptation, just because of how dense with information the VN is. Instead, they took the entirely sensible approach, worked off the assumption that anyone watching will be at least vaguely familiar with the Nasuverse, and crammed this bitch full of references while keeping to the proper story beats. It was a very smart way of taking on the series.
@CyanMedic The source material barely contains actual information either. For the most part, it's just Shirou monologuing about how he must be a hero and how Saber shouldn't fight. If you get down to the bottom of how little development actually happened in F/SN, you'd be shocked.
That moment when you realize that Shirou and Saber having a mother-son relationship makes way more sense than a romantic one And this coming from a guy who ships them
Honestly... now that you mention it... Saber acting as Shirou's mother would actually have been pretty interesting. She _was_ a father once, but failed horribly, so this would've been a nice way for her to repent for that. I'd love it! It would've been heartwarming. ^_^ _Except that would probably rub sault on Mordred's wound. (poor Mordred)_
@@MrDibara It's even worse with the Abridged series since their version of Fate/Zero implied that Arthur used Mordred as a scape goat for her own f&*k ups.
Especially with her... complicated history with his adoptive father. It also makes it much sweeter that she's actually trying to take care of someone after she both didn't have the chance to _and_ failed to do so once she did with Mordred. I like to think once Artoria learns to open up to allowing herself to be a _person_ instead of a king she'd begin to see the parallels between Shirou and Mordred.

Have I mentioned how much I love you guys? Because my most favorite moment for a narrative to this story has to be this moment: *Archer:* I've got a Hitler question for you, Shirou. *Shirou:* Huh? *Archer:* Let's say that right before his death, knowing everything that Adolf Hitler had done, he got a chance to talk to himself in his formative years. He's young, he's naive. Would Hitler try to set himself down a different path? Or kill him to save himself the grief? *Shirou:* What does this have to do with Caster? *Archer:* If Hitler knows his dreams will destroy him, should Hitler kill Hitler? Or, is it important that little Hitler see through his ambitions, consequences be damned? This is a VERY deep question that you had Archer ask Shirou, that I cannot help but feel it's something we all could think about. If our lives went through a very horrible turn where we self-destructed or did terrible things, and had a chance to meet our younger self, we would only feel we had two options. Choose to deviate them from the path they have set themselves to, or kill them so they don't go through with it. And asking it in the way of using Adolf Hitler was a brilliant move that makes you really think. If Hitler is young, naive, even innocent, should he die? His future isn't set in stone, but he may have a drive that might make him set on the path of destruction. It's seriously something else and it's one of the reasons that I love the stuff you guys do.
@@michaeldaniels642 I agree. That's a very simple logic, and I would even think that way too. But when I think more about it, I'm killing someone that didn't yet do anything wrong. He could still turn into the monster, but he could end up also being a better person and not that monster. He hasn't yet done anything. But here in the context of what Archer asks Shirou, it's Archer talking to his younger naive self. To him, there are only two options. Either Shirou gives up his dream, or Archer kills Shirou.

My mom was in the military. I've had moments when I went to things like award ceremonies where there was nearly a solid minute of people addressing each other by rank, and half of them had the same rank (or at least they're rank's abbreviated form was the same).
I love how they keep foreshadowing the Shiro/Archer connection in this series. And their relationship is just awesome with Shiro idolizing archer, and archer completely despising Shiro. The Hitler analogy makes me wonder how much they altered the the normal Fate/Moon timeline. Did he still just fail horribly at saving some people, or did he go off the rails and do something REALLY bad?
2nd necessary pin; Female Musashi is an anomaly from an abandoned timeline. In Fate, every other timeline feature Musashi as a man and he narrates a section of GO. Even if that weren't the case, Sasaki Kojiro's existence is sublimated from the story of his duel with Musashi which accounts for him as a man. Worst case, that would be the Musashi Sasaki knows(but again, see point one). Fewer "Musashi is a woman" comments please.

Forplay for servants
Your Everyday Protagonist He's not stupid though, just extremely lacking in self-worth.

Yep the actual show has to introduce everything. The abridged has the luxury of 8 times out of 10 if your watching it you have basic lore knowledge
My lord, we really need you to get off the throne. Or at least install a damn text to speech device.
@CyanMedic The source material barely contains actual information either. For the most part, it's just Shirou monologuing about how he must be a hero and how Saber shouldn't fight. If you get down to the bottom of how little development actually happened in F/SN, you'd be shocked.

You can really feel Archer's frustration and feeling of sheer rage in this entire dialogue and it is freaking amazing.
Have I mentioned how much I love you guys? Because my most favorite moment for a narrative to this story has to be this moment:
*Archer:* I've got a Hitler question for you, Shirou.

Thank you. It was annoying how many of those comments there were. Also, thank you for the heads up about the tons of TTRPG content I was missing out on. I love that stuff!
Musashi was Sasaki Kojiro.
once again fate screws up its own timeline and lore, thanks fate
@@saltybastard5068 This is more a case of people seeing that there's a female Musashi and not knowing her lore. There's also an obviously divide in the comments between people who've kept up with all of GO and those who only know what's been translated. Can't really fault them for it.
Same with King Arthur too

"I certainly picked the worst words to come in on"
LMAOOO what an intelligent way to put it
Shirou’s magic is worse than anything his dad knew and yet Saber is just so happy it’s not the same
Well if you are any familiar with Emiya Kiritsugu on what he does without magic and throw in his Servant Self in FGO, you would be happy too that Shirou it´s not the same either.
Saber really hated Kiritsugu and his methods.
If FGO were to have Kiritsugu as Servant, game would need to have actively around masters in every fights.
That's what he is good at after all

Emperor, this is Summer, so you're a Caster right now!
_(it really is Summer in my country)_
Is it wrong I wished kojiro would say "Your name is pendragon and dragons are just bigger swallows".
While this series makes frequent references to FSN and Fate/Zero, I think referencing FGO is a bit too obscure and would require some explaination.
@@adenbishop9683 During the early days of FGO, Kojirou was a effective unit to use againt wyvern enemies due to those being classed as rider-type enemies (FGO has rock-paper-scisors mechanic) and due to the fact that he was a easy unit to evolve to max level. Since the first chapter of FGO (happens in France) has a lot of wyverns, this ended up resulting in a meme where Sasaki became know as the saviour of France. From there a lot of other memes startep poping up, including the whole "Dragons are just bigger swallows".
@@adenbishop9683 This went even further when there was an event which has Saint George (famed as a dragon slayer) and Saint Martha (famed for taming a dragon-like monster) just hanging out eating stolen food with none other than Sasaki "Regend" Kojiro.
@Aden Bishop
Check out Sasaki Kojiro's wiki page on the Typemoon wikia and then look below his image and see what he's also known as. I can't believe the mods on that wikia actually allowed that title to be kept.

@@shirouneko2488 The manga is Kurohime which is features witch gunslingers who fire magic bullets which are alive in some sense hence why only women can use this type of magic as new life grows in the womb and that is literally stated in the series as being the reason why only women can make this kind of magic.

Everytime I hear Caster call Shirou "My sweet boy" I feel like she is either going to seduce him or convince him to make her his new mommy. Or both. I mean she is from Greek mythology right, characters from those myths were weird like that.
@Angel Guzman Therefore Medea is evil and must be killed with extreme prejuice… or give her enough gun pla to keep her busy during milennia… wichever is more acessible really.
@Angel Guzman you know what would be a perfect payback to Jason......... making him a one star cause fuck him
Ah Zeus and his strange fetishes. Like when he turned into a cow to fuk a women.
@Angel Guzman I hate Gilgamesh for what he did to Illya in FSN but after playing the Babylonia chapter of FGO, he's got A LOT more respect from me. FYI you pretty much help him sever the gods from the world and essentially hasten the end of the age of the gods in one final clash with one of the strongest gods there is. Near world ending battle, fucking epic.
@@erasablefallen7223 as for Gilgamesh ( pre chill the fuck out or as i like to call him the King of prepotence) he can rot in hell for all i care the other Gil (post chill) is pretty okay in my books.
"hand crafted by the devil himself just to torment me" Kinda true tbh. Grail brings the servants into the world. The Grail is tainted by the Zoroastrian version of the devil. That same grail want to inflict all the evils of the world onto humanity. Very clever.
@Sam Larrimore works both ways
Technically the Angra Mainyu corrupting the Grail is not the actual one from Zoroastrian mythology but, a human who was given the name by people for some stupid reason. So not really the Zoroastrian devil.
