For anybody still on the fence, BUY ONE! Just bought a Newport (the same model as the one in the video) after almost two years of waiting for the right time and, MAN, this thing is friggin slick! I don’t anticipate it leaving my pocket anytime soon and my previous EDC (a Para 3 LW) has been relegated to my range bag. Already eyein up a TR3 Operator as well!
Proud to say I used to work for Dave at Protech. Great guy and he really does care and walks the walk. Quality was always the most important thing and it looks like it still is. Great knives!
I own 54 Protech knives and love every one of them. My latest purchase was the Malibu which is perhaps the best knife of 2020 or at least in the top five.
Great video! The thing that really put Protech on the map for me recently is the Malibu. That is the sort of innovation Protech should get major props for. Yes, I agree that their autos are undoubtedly solid. Their reputation for such a high degree of manufacturing created an extremely solid foundation for the brand over the years. But again, that button or plunge lock/detent system is so impressive. Such tight tolerances for that to function the way that it does. That sort of innovation puts Protech right up there with Spyderco and the compression lock as a forward thinking company. Absolutely incredible to see them pivot into doing manuals and doing them just as well as their autos. As I’ve said so many times, I really hope they implement that same manual design across their line or see additional manual models in the future. That sort of innovation has launched the company so far forward into the stratosphere making them much more than an American auto manufacturer. Protech is the bees knees in this era of American knife manufacturing.
Pretty new (less than 1 year) to the knife world even though I’m 30 years old, videos like this help me. The boker kalishnikov arrives in a couple days...the first auto 👍
Another good thing about aluminum is that it can be reanodized at home assuming you're willing to research a bit and acquire the materials needed to do it. Removing the old anodizing is as simple as soaking part in easy off oven cleaner for a few minutes, then it's just a matter of cleaning up the raw aluminum then figuring out what color you want to make it. Takes a bit of time, but we'll worth it, imo just because you're learning a new skill. Not only learning a new skill but also making a shitty looking beat up knife look pretty much new again.
I purchased the Protech Newport a year ago and it is excellent in every way. top quality, super sharp and operates so fast. it is my everyday carry. Thank you Protech.
Got my first pro tech this year and when you say there built different I actually feel that your talking about, i have a ludt and a 9400 and protech is bringing the same of not better quality for a way better price and like you said I watched all the shop tours and the interview with Dave he’s a cool guy, shout out the old guy that does the ultra high end protechs he’s cool. Ps last thing NOTHING IS WRONG WITH 154cm I use to have that mind set but after comparing them my self it’s literally amazing
Just ordered my first Protech knife. Have a Kershaw launch 6 but decided to pull the trigger on a Protech godson for my edc. Nice to see this video validating my purchase.
I have the TR 4 and the Large Don. Protech is the King of the side opening auto knives. Hands down. Microtech is still the undisputed King of OTFs though.
I think Protech will be my first pocket knife purchase over $100. I'm ready to start adding some higher end pieces to my collection. Saw a video of their facility on Talon Sei's page and I really like the company. Gonna check out some more of your videos
I had two benchmade nini reflexes and piranhas the tr3 I have now with the magnacut is the best steel I’ve had on a knife. I cut scotch bright pads and corragated cardboard boxes all day and wiring fit electrical. The knife was knew a couple months ago but looks like it’s ten years old and only on its third sharpening
I own three pro-tech knives currently. The Les George Rockeye, the TNP limited edition pro-tech short-bladed Rockeye and the godson. All of them are top-notch and amazing! I have my eye on the Malibu for my next pro-tech purchase.
I have a godson with black handle and bead blast blade. I love it. Timeless design. Sometimes the other models are very difficult to find. The Malibu for example.
I would say probably, Protech has a contract with a steel maker or a warehouse already purchased with steel blanks so they can just pull blanks whenever they want to make a set of knives. It’s much more practical and economical to already have steel on hand or some sort of purchasing contract to ensure the availability of steel at a set price.
I have a black godson; i went through a tornado with it in my pocket, i broke the tip off and scratched her to hell; she performed and i was very much happy to be able to survive that day with her at my side. I haven’t sent her in for any repairs as it’s a now a piece of memorabilia of that day.
Keep an eye on their IG if you haven't snagged one. They announce drops saying "between April 8th and April 15th there will be Malibus in reverse tanto available".
Pro Tech is an excellent example of what American companies are capable of. They take pride in their products and back them up with a great warranty and customer service. 💯🇺🇲👍
Love this company. Im waiting on the tuxedo Godson to come available again in stock. Not personally but regardless of price/quality ive seen videos of the coil springs breaking. Maybe spring tech will evolve
Being relatively new to the modern folder world and being a Canadian, I literally had the exact same thought this morning. This kinda freaked me out, but thanks!
Gotta get me one. I have handled many and they are all awesome. Messed with a slim foot auto today. Looks and and feels like a Pro-tech but it definitely doesn’t fire like an in-house design. Pro-tech, possibly the best priced base model American Made knives out there. Definitely in the auto category. I love my Kershaw Launch 11 but it’s NOT a Pro-tech.
I've got myself the kwaiken compact auto (where the blade and mechanism is made by protech) since I've heard good things about them and I'm very disappointed. The button action is very gritty and it can get a bit stuck. Ballistol doesn't help. Also the blade flips so quick it can bounce back so sometimes it doesn't even open and lock fully. Meanwhile a cheap noname auto knife of a friend is even more snappy and the mechanism feels actually solid.
Have only one ProTech - the SBR - which is really quite fantastic. It also is hypothetically in Arizona with my family and NOT illegally well hidden from my wife and the authorities. I suppose I can count the Mordax as well, but I think of the Mordax more as a Ferrum Forge than I do a ProTech. The Washington legislature is currently looking at updating their stupid knife laws and I have called my local Rep to make my concerns known. If the law get updated, there are already a couple ProTechs on my want list.
Just picked up EK knives ekclusive Protech Emerson cqc7 auto with the tritium push button. Kinda expensive at 315$ but worth it imo considering all the upgrades to it. Heck tritium night sights for my glock go for 165$ 😂
@@JoEYHiiGHRoLLER I owned one; buy it. Mine is in retirement because she got her ass kicked by a tornado but she held up. Blade is FUBAR but i’m keeping it the way it is. I’m buying another protech soon.

I'm going to be retiring my Benchmade 3551 due to it now being a discontinued model. The Godson and Newport are currently at the top of my list for replacement. I probably will never buy another Benchmade.

@davidlim402 Just needed a change. No drama at all. Plus, the commute was a killer.

How is it?
I have the TR 4 and the Large Don. Protech is the King of the side opening auto knives. Hands down. Microtech is still the undisputed King of OTFs though.
The only reason I'm not a huge fan of aluminum is I dont have the capability to refinish it if necessary.
That being said, I love all my Protechs

Just picked up the Godfather with sapphire blade. Beautiful knife. Fourth Protech now. Many more to come.
I've got aTr3 in blue jazz finish. Love the snappy action. Will be buying more Protechs in the future
The Godfather you have in the middle has a tritium insert on the button. It’s an awesome touch to an already great knife.

I just started my collection and all my interest is ur influence aha thanks man
I just purchased my first one yesterday. A Runt number five.
Just bought a newport. Doesn't fire quite as hard as my kershaw launch, but the lockup is more solid and that tip is POINTY af.
I just got my first 2 Protech knives for Christmas, TR2 and TR3. They are my most expensive knives, but they are both my favorite now.
Are protech or Spyderco higher quality knives?
I've been thinking about getting a protech. I've mostly been into manuals lately, but the automatic *click* just sounds so satisfying 🤤
Dooo iiittt 😂 seriously you really can't go wrong with them.

Owning a Protech, especially that blue one, is a dream I have, but they’re always going to be way out of my price range!
Blade HQ does lay away. FYI
I feel blessed to have 6.
My brother just bought me a Newport for my Birthday, It’s a great knife!
Finally ordered my 1st Protech and it’s the blue one!! That thing is sharp looking!!
Same! I got it in black because they were out of stock every where, otherwise would’ve gone for blue or od green
Mordax may be a Ferrum forge in design but it's a protech knife same as all there others in build quality, action and fit and finish
Godson models can be had for around 130 if you know where to look, great for that price
I love Protech so much! I have a Malibu, Mordax, 2 SBR's, SnG and a TR-3. Want to get every model in blue at some point!
Just bought the godfather, awesome knife. The TR-3 will probably be the next. Pro tech and Spyrdco are my favorites
I've carried a Newport for 5 years now (great edc)

I love Spyderco's FRN ! Much different feeling than any other similar scales.
Just got an SMKW exclusive godson in red lava fat carbon. Love it.
They make such great quality stuff.
The Malibu is fantastic, my tr5, godson, godfather, sng and sbr are as well.
I want a calmigo for no reason besides I bet it is a blast to have that action in a knife that is the size of an eyedrop bottle
Plus Dave (owner) is a kickass dude.
I own and love The Godfather. If I get into a knife fight I hope it’s the one I have on me and the other guy forgets his knife.

You mean the models YOU want are sold out. They've got tons of stuff in stock. They can't make everyone happy all the time.
Everything! That’s what’s so great.
Had a million knives Pro Tech not cheap.but the best one i have owned yet
protech very good knife
My Newport arrived today in the mail. That thing is legit. There will be more. The TR3 is next.

I SEE A LANYARD!! I KNEW IT!
Cold Steel has really messed up my definition of huge when it comes to knives.
Oh, I never realized this. Let me sell my Microtech stich so I can buy a Protech!🤣🤣🤣 Never handled a protech, so I can't say!
You should try one!
I like how you can get a godson for 150 dollars there good starter high end auto
Excellent
Grivory is not good on high end knives
Gold class isn’t that great
Some companies have controversy
Hmmm I wonder who that could be

Lol. Run along
