Recently played a 8 men FFA game and one of the guys literally had a pure great bombard army + bunch of Castles he used to "agressively defend" himself against 4 players and killed half the lobby with it.
The Malian player did the same mistage the HRE player did in that one Salami Video, and that is he stopped making units. You dont need to be in imp, your dont need culverin or roller shutter trigger spingals, you just need springals, 5 to be exactly to one shoot a great bombard. You kill the Great bombard befor it is ready to shoot. Just never stopp making units in age 3, burn down the Militry Schools and its gg for you. With Militry Schools alone, he can never outnumber you, if you just let him stay and build up an amry of free units you lose, going up to imp means you have to stopp making units, then you need to make techs or culverin, by that time he already has multiple great bombards and an amry to protect them.
That's right. I go for MIA first if I am able too, as I'm super worried about those mangos / megabombards taking out my trash army of spearman. Once I take that out I pull back, then go back in for round 2 to take out the military schools.
He just needs units. Springalds are waste of time. By all means, 14min imp is super early. You should be ready as Malian since you are undisturbed. But your intuition is probably with a 16min readiness. Plus you may have some innate fear towards jans. Regardless, the opponnet just didn't play well having no sofa nor jav rushing through Drongo's eco by 14min since, again, he was undistrubed, and unopposed. Drongo shouldve died by 16min. A single bombard doesnt do anything when the Malian units are all scattered and killing vils all over the places. Incidentally, if you are super ahead and you want to kill but you dont want to build siege to slow you down, scattering for multi-prong attack is key for avoiding massive loss by inopportuned mango shots from fog of war. This last point is not obvious but is also nothing special for a Conq 3 player.
Been using this build love it . Any advice on the variation of this build to defend against a feudal rush from French knights or English . I’m thinking of just assigning more villas to wood instead of gold to pump out some defense while going to castle behind it. Any advice ?
Goodness gracious, that's powerful. In a certain moment there you had only 17 villagers and 102 (ONE HUNDRED AND TWO!!!) troops! That's absolutely insane. And also it shows the power of siege + handcanoneers. Rus with springalds, mangonels and, yes, bombards (for which Rus has unique improvements) surrounded by a small, but sufficiently numerous, detachment of Streltsy also decimate opponents. Three or four bombards destroy enemy buildings, four or five springalds destroy enemy springalds and mangonels, and two or three mangonels kill massed enemy units. Then the streltsy just defends the siege surrounding it and staying still, since it has improved attack rate AND an insane melee damage (I think it's 60) when units come closer. Your other units will be there just to disrupt more of the enemy's attempt to destroy your siege. Well, I can see this works amazingly well for Ottomans too, but in a totally different level. I think you would have been in even more of a pickle when he was in your base. If your opponent focused on taking out all the houses and military buildings then you wouldn't have been able to print units until you got more wood. With 8 vils left even having the MIA isn't going to save you from the next wave. He was trying to LM snipe you which I think was his mistake.
Drongo, would you recommend a beginning player to play Ottomans instead of Chinese? I used to be pretty good at aoe2, but the Chinese in aoe4 are hard to play. I do think it's the most fun civ for me though. I'd like to improve myself as a player no matter the civ though.
It’s not the strategys that wins games or rank you up. It’s how good we multi-task and how fast. I can never get out of gold with just this strategy, i have to learn all the other stuff and do them faster.
Top players quite simply never (I mean NEVER) use the Great Bombard in competitive games worth $$$. After patch no change, because it's still super weak. Simple as that
i tried this and won against a guy who needed one win to go Conqueror 1 and he flamed me :D . Another guy got confused on how i was able to keep up and win. When game finished he had almost in all resources double mine.

Select villagers. Right click your villagers to go to a resource. Press G to garrison them. Select TC. Press D to "Return to work". Note: This won't work if you just right click your villagers on the ground, or if you send them to build something
Had some success with ottomans as well, but im wondering, how do you counter aggression if people just rush you down? With ottomans at least you have some units out due to schools, but theres the risk of something like a royal knight + archer feudal push from french, mass men at arms from hre as soon as they pop age 3 before youd have mangonels, and just as annoying you get english longbows age 2 which will snipe vills and any military you have cause they outrange towers and get dangerously close to your tc, denying you any gathering. When playing other civs you dont get your free training either, so its even harder to keep up with numbers.
Ive made the same experience so far. Ottomans is a great civ, that can even turn so many games which were in favor for the enemy player (as displayed in this video). BUT: if you play against an aggressive english main with lots of archers, that is staying in the 2. age - you will get destroyed. Same goes if you play vs an strong and aggressive hre player, he will spam man at arms/landsknecht/waffenknecht and some rams and you will def. get destroyed. There is no counter against that
Hey Drongo, can you talk a bit about the pros and cons of walling in in this build order? You seem pretty strapped for wood/surplus stone and I can't tell if walling would have given value.
Drongo, i love your build! personally i prefer to play this with 2tc.. feudal age up with 2 and gather stone+wood meanwhile. i manage everytime to get up to imperial under 14 minutes. While having 5 Military schools + blacksmith up! AND i go for early Wheelbarrow asap when i reach feudal. What do you think about this? (i am a Diamond player so i think you could do it even better)
in my opinion its so much stronger cause you have much more eco running for you when you reach that imperial age. you could look then to build production, or walls and keeps, or trade. But with 24 Villagers you have to really try to keep your head above water
Its just setup for failiure against every civ that tends for early aggresion. Just dont stop making units, you dont need to be imp to kill the ottoman player in that setup.
This is almost the same build order I have been using since the Ottomans came out. I’m too slow to do anything more than an AI match though. Good to mix in Jans
Doesn't this get countered with blade55555's anti fast imperial strategy? He has a video on his channel where he demonstrates it against HRE fast imperial. The moment after the initial slaughtering of the villagers the enemy builds siege and trebs you down from a distance. He will have always more units because he stayed castle.

It's not overpowered but it's unrealistic and probably unintended to have a very strong army with only a handful of villagers so yeah there's a good chance that it will get nerfed.@@OptimusCrime4444

First thing you should ram is that mehmed imperial armory landmark because thats where the bombard pops out you need to delay that bombard mass as long as you can, so do age 2 ram push into age 3 MAA +archers for the jans

In other words, once the military schools are built, the only thing you theoretically need economy for is upgrades (which can be quite expensive, but you don't need very many of them - I think his relics were providing him with all of the economy that he needed). Hardly something that I'd consider weak in theory, given that the opponent is spending thousands to match the Ottoman military. Certainly appears to be strong enough in practice, given that he won with most of his economy consisting of 4 relics.

Before going to my main point, I want to say this- Jannissary is not a bad unit. GB is not lame. This game is not a standard to argue that Otto Fast Imperial is a flawless strategy. It's so vulnerable. Yes, it's kinda absurd seeing you pull off with 5 vs some 50 villagers+cow economy. But at many points, the Malian player made so many mistakes. (1) He/she stopped making units (2) He/she saw you making jans and spears yet never went for archers or javelins. (3) Always brought melee units to deal with GBs. (4) never made a wall. (5) never made springalds/culvs. I would say drongo won this with his sheer micro skill and tons of mistakes from the opponent. If these many stars have to align to win a match, no way otto gonna make the S tier.
I do think Ottomans could use a slight adjustment, and that is removing Fast Training, the level 3 Vicier technology. Replace it with something else, as for right now every Ottoman build just feels like you wanting to go extra military school and then make them produce faster too. I think it's boring, and I think the Vicier technologies shouldn't be so entwined with one another. You will never go one without the other and that's my problem with it.
I feel sorry for all the lower level guys who will be trying this strat in anything but conq.. They will be utterly destroyed before they reach castle xD It's a fun strat, don't get me wrong, but it's a huge gamble for lower leagues where people who play against Ottoman are fed up with early rushes so they pre-emptively rush Otto themselves to get the upperhand (English/abba) and therefore this strat is useless.. unless it's high level play in conq where people usually tend to make a few units and never go an early all-in.

Just do the best strat for your league. You'll never become Beasty or top players. Their APM can make anything work.

There is no strategy while playing with Ottomans. We only rely on military schools which is so lame and boring.
interesting. In theory, it seems very weak. It has little specific research and almost no economic advantage compared to other nations.
The economic advantage is this: you can produce a large army without spending anything on units.
