    The Ingersoll Rand 114GQC Air Hammer ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxqqoaX03nrziKwF7Bjjcc71YzLEleMvOS was just the tool I needed. I Use it to remove stuck bolts. If held at the right angle you can cut slightly into the bolt. Then turn the air hammer to where it will hammer the stuck bolt to unspin the bolt. Given a little practice it works great. This air hammer gives you the control needed to get the job done right. Very powerful yet still does not seem to have as much vibration as other guns I have used. One of the best I have gotten my hands on.

    For context, I have a small garden, so no mass bulb plantings etc. Its midnight here in Australia, on Saturday night no less. I have just spent 17 minutes watching a video about digging holes using a drill. Now I don't own a drill so this is not something I will likely need. But, that my friend is how much I look forward to all of your videos. Watched it, loved it and if I'm ever in the market I now have all the information I need. Thanks so much. Yeah I look at her digging her holes in disbelief, like where is this magical soil with no rocks? With us any hole I dig would be at least 1/4 rocks. I'm hoping this drill & auger concept (after I get it and watch all the safety videos) would help me save time despite the rock farm reality.

    I bought an auger after watching one of your earlier videos. I planted 80 tulips around the new light pole my husband and son installed and he watched me and was amazed at how much easier it made the job. We have rocky and heavy clay soil in unpredictable spots so once in a while it would throw my wrist around. Hubby took the drill and put it on setting 1 and after that it worked like a dream! I can't agree more with you! Hubby said, I bet if you were using a shovel that would be much more work. I said, "Well I wouldn't even be doing this then." So thumbs up!!! Thank you Laura. Another Michigan gardener here.

    • @vtwlim67
      @vtwlim67 2 роки тому

      Question, I have stones in my soil, sometimes Im picking them out. Did your auger still drill through safely or did the auger throw the stones around?

    • @joyfulkimh8961
      @joyfulkimh8961 2 роки тому

      @@vtwlim67 it depends on the size of the stones. Smaller ones just came up with soil. Bigger ones stopped the auger. The first year doing this all went well, this past fall the drill ripped out of my hand twice and I damaged two fingers. It took 7 months to heal. My husband is going to get me a two handed drill for this coming fall.

    Love it! While the initial investment is more, I am thinking that you could use the 9 inch auger even for smaller pot planting, right? After all, you would just be churning up the soil into nice fluffy medium. Which would be good for the plant and your garden soil; would you agree?

      I have a lot of rocks and clay soil too. This brand is the only one that will work, and I did end up getting one of the heavy duty one that doesn't bog down or break when hitting rocks. Just go really slowly, wiggle it around a bit, and if you hit a rock bigger than you can move with the auger just move over a bit and try again. That worked for me at least. I did end up using my spade to dig out a couple of rocks b/c I did not want to move over, but the soil had been loosened enough so that was easy, too.

      Upvoting you. I live in Portland, and my soil is like solid moist clay. I tried to use the Power Planter 3"x12" auger with Dewalt 20v drill on the settings Laura (and Power Planter recommend) for tulip bulb planting, but it was near impossible. I didn't hit rocks, but the clay itself just hugged the auger completely! When we lifted the drill up, the auger was covered in solid clumps of moist clay. You can poke them off with a finger, but then you keep having to do this multiple times for just one hole to get down to 6"-8". We gave up and did the trench method with a shovel, which was...painful but quicker. We backfilled with bagged top soil, and since we did the trench method, we ended up needing much more top soil than we would have if the auger had worked. I hope Laura can please comment on clay+augers in the Monday video review video! Would a 60v drill get the job done? Do we need dry clay for this to work?

    Thanks! I bought a standard auger from a big box store and use it for a lot even to start holes to put a fence in LOL. But I did not know there were different sizes and then the different uses for various bulb sizes so thanks for that information and the information on the drill settings also.

    This was SO helpful!! I first got myself a 24" auger that was NOT PowerPlanter and it stripped almost right away, I maybe got 3 holes dug then it just would not grip (no hex). So I ordered the PowerPlanter after your planting of the 3k bulbs and it was a world of difference. I did find that the handle was necessary in my clay and rocky soil, and my Dewalt did not have one. However, the replacement handles sell on Amazon for $12 - and thanks to all these great tips I'm finally finishing up my 2400 bulb planting journey. Thank you for helping me do these tasks all by myself!!

    Coffee with Laura and the 411 on augers and drills, such good information!!!!! One of the smaller ones may be a good investment for my work place as we do plant a fair amount and it would help with how fast we can do things and who can dig the hole. I feel like any one can use the drill set up so thank you for all the choices and specific information!!

    Thank you guys! That is awesome! I did buy the ones you have been using. I even broke 2 of them and good thing that they are life time warranty because they gave me new ones. We have clay soil here and no one amended the soil in the yard ... I only did it for the vegetable garden and the flower patch I made.....it is going to be a whole until will have it the way I want it since it's done smaller scale at the time. Hugs.🌷🌱💜🤗

    I cant thank you enough. I never knew of augers until now. It has changed my life. I do our garden and flower bed (for the wifey as she loves this stuff and i love seeing her happy). However with injuries and previous surgeries from my time in the army doing it by hand and the ups and down would kill me. I literally would be bed ridden for a few days. After finding your videos (which i love) it change my whole approach and tools used. So thank you, my back, and the rest of me thanks you. :) hope you and the hubby have a wonderful day.

    Love your videos, I've been watching you since the beginning. At first it was to learn more about gardening & then it felt like I was watching a dear friend so I kept watching to see my "friend" & to celebrate in your new house & growing family.
    So I am watching this video with my honey, who also enjoys your videos, & he was mentioning the drill you're using is a hammer drill specifically designed for drilling into concrete & masonry as well as regular drilling which is why has the handle. He was saying it also has the bigger opening, a 1/2 inch chuck, smaller drills have a 3/8 inch chuck. I hope this is helpful for anyone looking to buy a drill with a handle or one like you guys have.

    You are more informative than a Home Depot or Lowes representative!!! I loved your video. I'm building a covered garden in the back yard and the auger drill bits will definitely be helpful. I want to plant flowering bushes in the front yard as well. You have been very helpful. Your property looks great. Thanks!

    I REALLY appreciate all this detailed info on augers and also on drills, drill settings and that drill side handle. I was a little stumped as to how strong / powerful my drill needs to be to use a 5" or 7" wide auger in fairly rocky soil. I think your bigger drill later in the video was 60V so I went with 60V but in a different drill shape so I can use it for regular home drilling projects too. It's not cheap but this way I don't have to pay someone to dig & put in plants for me!

    I bought an augur this fall for my bulbs but there was only one type available in the box store. I did look on Amazon but there were so many that it was confusing so thanks for explaining them in this video, it was so helpful. I’ve got clay soil with what seems like tons of rocks so I think one of the bigger augurs is going to come in handy next spring.

    This is a brilliant, brilliant video - thank you! Absolutely on point, with lots of explanations and examples with a variety of augers and excellent warning to watch out for 'drill flip' (I don't have a second handle for my drill so I'll be careful). I bought my cordless drill and augers on the back of your video! I have 100 various bulbs to plant into heavy London clay. I had previously tried to hand-dig bulb holes in my soil and could only get max 5 inches/12cm down which took ages too and wore me out as soil too compacted (especially near tree stumps/roots), so I bought a traditional bulb-planter but that only penetrated soil to 2" (despite TWO MONTHS of non-stop rain which I thought would make the soil easier to dig but it just clagged up the clay even more!). Off to garden now whilst there's a brief break in the rain to give it a go and hoping for a pleasant afternoon - will try not to get carried away and drill for England!

    Super helpful video, thanks for keeping it real for those of us with much smaller gardens. I have super heavy clay soil here (north Texas) and am not sure if an auger will work but I may get a small one just to test it out. Even if it's just in my nicely worked beds out front where I put in annuals, it could save me some time and energy. Thanks for the great tips!

      Your soil looks a lot better than mine. I feel like I live on a rock. I live in a desert Southwest and when I dig a hole, I dig up Boulders, that’s what gives me my muscles 💪

    Love, Love, Love my PowerPlanter Auger. Bought it last year due to Inspiration from you. I now like planting bulbs. 🥰🥰🥰 I just have to be careful because because we have heavy clay soil. I don't have a handle so I just have to let go. I have a CHEAP Drill so I don't think it has any numbers, just forward, backwards and on, off. 🤪
