Oceanside Pier one day after fire erupted on iconic landmark

- Tourists and locals captured images of the iconic Oceanside Pier Friday, one day after a devastating blaze erupted at the end of the structure.
"We were in the middle of actually re-doing the concrete part," said Mayor Esther Sanchez. "That's like a $40 million dollar project. To have this happen, we're all brokenhearted."
She said she's already gotten calls from state and federal leaders, offering their support in rebuilding the pier.
Friday firefighters remained at the scene, watering down hot spots. The fire appears to have started in the old Ruby's Diner. So far, investigators have not determined what sparked the fire. The ATF is assisting in the investigation.
Oceanside Fire Chief David Parsons said fire crews from multiple agencies worked through the night and were able to save 90% of the pier.

Doubtful, I grew up on the Coast of NC and pier insurance without incident is crazy expensive to the point when I was a kid there was 6 on the island near me and by the time I left there was 1 1/2. The 1/2 is not really long and good for fishing or anything. The cost to reinsure would be way more then what its worth, pretty sure its a historic landmark so they can't just tear it down either. Built in 1888
The entire thing is owned by the City of Oceanside. So, no.
Used to fish off that Pier in the 60's , looked different back then , was a restaurant and tackle / bait shop on the end and a smoke house about half way out , on the north side !
That pier was needing a refurbishment for a while now.
none of the fire chemicals and fumes from Ruby's Diner are known to cause cancer in the State of California. Per newsome's choices, these fire boats will soon be powered by batteries.

Wait how did it not collapse right!? World trade centers were steel. This was wood 😂
Because on the pier, there was no jet fuel pouring down the steel beams. Even though the steel beams WTC towers were were built to withstand heat from fire, the initial intensity caused buckling and ultimately weakened further. Assuming you know this already however.
Because the World Trade Center fires were caused by jet fuel which burns at over 1000C and structural steel loses about half its strength at about 600C ... not to mention an airplane which tore out a good bit of the buildings structural support. An open air wood fire which is getting a ton of water dumped on it doesn't burn anywhere as hot as a jet fuel fire.
A thick coating of salt prevented it from being overdone.
