    I had a long running hobby of designing and building amps. A lot of extremely big and powerful solid state amps and a few of them are huge class Gs. I’ve repaired quite a few production amps too. And LOOOLLL there’s no way I’d have been able to fix this thing 🤣🤣. Even with a schematic. That was insane. You’re a seriously talented amp tech with an amazing level of patience. Hats off to this. I’ve never built or worked on a class D though since it’s an intimidating road I didn’t want to go down. For reasons like this 🤣

    So glad i found your channel again dude. I actually used to watch your subwoofer videos in my very early teenage years because i loved subwoofers and now 8 years later i try fixing what i can and it turns out youre doing amplifier repair videos which is just sick. I watch alot of component level board repair videos in my free time aswell but theres not many people in the uk that i know of that do it sadly. so coming across youre newer videos was a relief. im also in the uk.

    Ah the frustration of it not being what you thought. Then the compound failures.
    I presently have a switchmode supply and class d mono amp all on one board that has a low output. No info, and no comparison. What a chore it is.
    A brilliant example of how things can be fixed with enough time thrown at them. The right to repair should include access to technical information though or its just a lot more of this.
    Thanks for your efforts.

      it's just a marketing term, it's still a class D amplifier in addition to what rockford fosgate says is an extra feedback loop (which i think all class D amps should have) between the filtered output and the input to reduce distortion, apparently it also has dynamic switching frequency that changes during different power levels (according to them it increases fidelity during lower power levels but im skeptical)

    I agree with all the others.....I love this format! It's perfect for these special longer that expected .....painful repairs.
    I've listened to these amps and own a 1500bdcp and a 400.4, a 4 channel and a baby brother to the one just repaired.
    They are amazing amps.....easily competition quality! Then what's the problem??? The name and the history brand of the company, Rockford Fosgate, scares the SQ competitors like a pack of hot dogs at a campfire (If ya know what I mean lol). I've honestly wanted to hide these, installed, under a fake rack of Zapcos and see what happens!!!
    Oh I know they would be amazed! Honestly, if most people would give an honest opinion while comparing an RF and any other SQ amp, there would be no obvious sound differences!
    OK ok okkkkk.....I'll stop. LOL!
    Great video....and the host made it greater!

  • @bensonak47
    @bensonak47 2 роки тому

    I had a t1500bdcp that would sometimes work perfectly fine and other times not power on at all. Bypassing the protection comparators allowed the amp to turn on and build rail voltage but sometimes it would have no output, and sometimes it did. I would also sometimes come back the next day to the amp working perfectly fine without even doing anything to it the previous day. I spent so many hours on that thing that in the end I concluded that there must've been a (or multiple) broken internal trace somewhere. Without schematics it makes repairing these RF amps pretty difficult. Good job on finding the fault :)

  • @diabolicalartificer

    That's very good going, hats off to you. Fixing that amp without a schematic is pretty bloody awesome. Either way I'm impressed by your tenacity; kudos.

    RF makes all their own designs. Chip set, etc. are specifically for RF models. That's what makes a RF a RF amp. JL is similar. Not sure which is better/higher quality. Plenty of cheap amps out there that make a lot of power in a clean manner, and some come with free option of setting vehicles on fire, like Sundown. Pretty sure Skar amps have free fire starter circuits built right in too.

    I’m a new subscriber. Do you have a discord ? Also, I have just started recently in PCB repair, these two amps that I have our my first to repair, from a friend. It’s not life or death if I fail.
    Rockford punch 800a2 and kicker zx750.1
    On the kicker, I’m told it was a working amp, but a previous repair attempt from the actual owner himself was replacing the 2 damaged 40amp blade fuse holders on the board with 2 marine grade inline fuse holders. Not rated for 40amps and obviously horrific looking . I have not been able to source replacement fuse holders. The design in my opinion is horrible from an engineering standpoint, as the vertical posts themselves (perpendicular to the board) is actually what supports it physically. Anyway, any idea where I can purchase these ?

    • @barevids
      @barevids  2 роки тому +1

      Hey buddy! theres a discord somewhere ill try and find a link in a bit... in regards to the fuse, dont bother trying to replace it. All amps should be fused along the power wire anyway. having onboard fuses is just a secondary failsafe and most amplifiers nowadays do not have them. I suggest simply bridging over the fuse traces with some thick wire or something.

      Rockford's have never been known as a SQ amp, they are more known for loud clean reliable power, they are overbuilt tanks.

    I used to repair pro audio gear. I came to the conclusion that class d amps were all disposables, no matter the price. Almost all class d amp failures resulted in smoke and a crater in the board. The only reason this amp did not smoke is the low voltages involved.
