  • In the realm of performance Ford SUVs, the Explorer ST reigns supreme. With a twin-turbo V6 generating 400 horsepower and a rapid-shifting transmission on an AWD platform, this sport utility vehicle is an unexpected thrill on both the street and track.
Today, we’re going to uncork the factory air intake system with an aFe Momentum GT cold air intake system that claims 27-percent more airflow, thanks to its larger air box, intake piping, and air filter surface area than the OE air intake system. aFe claims a 15-horsepower increase, will we feel this on our test drive? Let's find out!

Absolutely no gain in horsepower I'll bet, just like every other air intake

Does the intake require a tune after being installed?

I have the exact afe momentum intake on my 2023 explorer ST. One thing I am concerned about is the loose filter fit. For the engine to be under proper boost pressure, should the filter fit air tight?? On the passenger side, the tube is intalled properly. I quadruple checked fit and the filter to the box fit is loose! The driver side fit is better but still not tight. Shouldn't a turbo system be air tight for proper boost pressure?? Even big pipe at the bottom of box going to the throttle body does not fit tight. I expected "gasket oring tight" fitment. Whats the deal with that? And when you put yours together, did the filter wiggle sorta loose in the box?? It runs good, no check engine light, and it runs strong like it dis before the install. Wondering if it was air tight, maybe performance would be better?? Idk

Shouldn’t impact performance at all. As long as you’re not getting dirt/dust past the filter and into the engine you should be fine. That’s the cold side, not the hot side of the system…
