- With the Black Widow going up for sale I wanted to make it as appealing to everyone as possible. Step 1 is to remove my name and lettering from all over the car. A viewer recommend oven cleaner to easily wipe off the lettering. We sprayed it on, let it sit and wiped it right off. easy peasy but kinda sad.

Here's the deal Dan. If the painthas a hardener in it (automotive paint)the oven cleaner will not affect it. If it's rattle can paint, or any other single stage paint, the oven cleaner will strip it.
I never seen a 4 door conversions until I watched Dan do it👍I love it💯

I cleaned our oven a few months ago. One of the hardest jobs of my life. Also, she said "penetrate" and "rub off "in two sentences.

When we used to drag race in the 80s. We didn't have a lot of money so we put oven cleaner on the blocks let sit for 24 hours dry primer paint. The beautifulest block in most cars in in Florida

Dan, oven cleaner works great to remove lettering enamels. I use paste oven cleaner when I can find it. I'm a sign painter lettering vehicles of all types since 1981. Whoever shared that tip must have been a sign painter.
Hack tip: acetone on a rag will wipe off rattlecan overspray, if you get it before it drys.

We do the oven cleaner to take our letters off our tow trucks before trade in. Works great

Yessir, oven cleaner works great on stainless braided hoses also. Spray on, spray rest of engine compartment with soapy water and rinse everything down…head out to the Malt shop!
Great for the ol "home hot tank" an engine block for rebuild too, if it's in fairly decent shape to begin with.
Hose er down inside and out ,follow up with a pressure washer hooked to hot water if you can.
@@MrTheHillfolk works awesome on firewalls and under hoods. Cleans them great before you start sanding and prepping for paint! Just did a nasty MGA hood that was caked with 55 years of crud!

Good morning from Cape Cod 🦈 back in 1981 I learned the oven cleaner takes off paint really well 😉 was working at a restaurant in the back door was covered in grease so I sprayed it all down with oven cleaner, every last bit of paint came off the door 😂 I didn't know you guys are putting on a comedy special 😂 keep up the good work ✌️🇺🇲

Sad to see it go. It was one of my favorite cars of your builds. I understand that at some point things must go. When I had my shop walked in one day an got redd of everything. Had 409 impalas,Roadrunner ,Camaro,all drivers. Keep the Nomads.

Learned something today. Never knew about the oven cleaner trick. That's pretty good. Sad to see the power tour, snow plow 57 go. But there is a time for every thing, and I hope this opens up new opportunities for you.
Loved Dani's expression when you accidentally sprayed white paint on the black door. You two are a hoot. Cool seeing you two enjoying the process.
Dan - another saved car will go to a good home. These old gems are so much more than the new cars. I don’t have anything that old, but saving some 15-20 year old fun cars - a G35 and a Supra, which are mechanically sound, but need some cosmetic love - that I can do :)

Hey Dan surprised you never heard of the oven cleaner trick. Over the years I use it as a mild Degreaser when I'm worried about taking paint off of the engine block or valve covers. Works good for taking brake dust off of alloy wheels also.
CitriStrip ---- I use on furniture but just watched a video where a guy did all the paint on his car.
These videos are getting much better. The humoristic aspects are much better as well as the normal lack of attention to detail "Who needs masking, the overspray gives it character"... LMAO

Dan the floor pan man the oven cleaner is for removing rattle can paint without disturbing the other paint and oven cleaner is a very good degreaser for engines it works better than the best store degreaser out there like gunk and the others. It does a really nice job on aluminum intake manifolds especially gasoline and oil leaks i have been using it for years. And another thing it is good for is getting bumper stickers off bumpers and paint.
I use it on my motors and parts when cleaning and stripping them down, getting them ready for paint
But can’t wait to see the black top tri fi get some love
Try acetone or Lacquer Thinner. The oven cleaner works on dirty engine parts too.
hello dan i have been using oven cleaner for years to remove lettering and pinstriping from vehicles its the best thing i use.
Sad to see it go away but was Odly satisfying to watch it go away .... Super clean works better and nicer in the lungs. Works great for stripping paint off all plastics and will not harm it one bit. You are welcome. Been stripping paint off plastics for years.

Well, that is sad. I don't know if you are familiar with the term "black widow" but that was a name of '57 Chevy stock car racers back in the day. It was black and white like yours. Google it. It used truck spindles and brakes and other parts to beef it up. I have always thought of yours as that black widow. Crazy 'bout how that oven cleaner works to remove paint. I guess the key to using it is to thoroughly wash it off to prevent it from working further. 👍
Most of the tow trucks in Toronto were lettered by Dave Connery. He showed me this trick to remove some sponsors off my racecar. I did a whole car that the paint had faded.
Used to use the oven cleaner to take the old names on the doors on the semi truck when you changed jobs anything you spray bond that paint will come off.

When we traded in our service trucks for new ones, we always used oven cleaner to remove the lettering, never failed or damaged the paint underneath
I think you should have just asked Mur, that is a real old school trick. Also if you use a heat gun gingerly first it works alot easier. Danni told you to preheat the oven!

Tips : 1) small paint brush to brush a little on the stuborn areas .
2) plastic mud applicator
To get under paint to roll her up , & push her right along .
3) plenty off cool clear water to flush , it will attact the other paint .. timing is everything ... all kinds of variables , "age" , type of paint sign painter used . & type of skin layed on the old hoopty... experiment what ya gonna hurt .

I acquired a 1/18 diecast non lettered version of a black widow '57. I really like that model. That will have to do as I can't afford a real one.
