Couple of basic questions for you. First, why is this called color sanding when really you are sanding the clear coat and not the color coat... but what I am most confused on is, do you ever sand the color coat? I just replaced a rocker panel, ( first time ) and sprayed the color coat. It looks pretty orange peel. The color has been on there for 4 days so now I'm not sure if I should sand it with 320 grit and respray the color and then clear coat it, or if I should just clear coat it, or "color sand" what I have and then clear coat it. It's a rocker panel and down low so it will probably look good enough whatever I do. But it would be nice to know what I should do. Thanks in advance for your comments.
In the old days paint was single stage with no clear coat on top. That's when the term "color sanding" came about because we were sanding the color. The name stuck around even after we started shooting basecoat clearcoat and sanding the clear. Sorta like "filming" a video. Everything is digital and not film but the term sticks around.
