The only way to not get sick by eating at buffets is either to only eat at the ones where they have people serving you, or don’t eat at them at all. My 6 year old daughter got food poisoning after eating at an expensive buffet in the Grand Floridian Hotel in Disney World. It can happen anywhere.

He said a person put their hand in the chocolate, licked it and put it back into the chocolate. I never went back to a buffet ever again after that. Even a salad bar

Went to The Emerald Chinese Buffet in Birmingham U.K a few yrs ago and purposely stuck to the fried beige food like spring rolls, chips, hash browns and chicken nuggets because something didn't seem right with the traditional Chinese fare they were serving. I swear a few days later that place had been closed down and featured on the local news as a patron (whilst eating food there) found something hard in their mouth. It was a microchip belonging to a cat.
They missed a really important caution: use utensils for finger foods. Or try. U use the ladle to grab food everyone's used then go to use your hands to eat. So either avoid finger food or use utensils with them Or wash your hands in between plates
I love buffets, but one time I was getting some food and this kid legit did the nastiest sneeze ALL over the desserts. Then watched as some people came up later and got some food from the sneezed area.
Went on a cruise and the ship had a wash station at the entrances of the buffet and advised everyone wash their hands before getting on line but there were those that didn't. Most of them were Asian.
