Numskull Designs sent me their newest Sonic Statue for Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th Anniversary.
You can call it a Sonic Statue or a Sonic Diorama, but whatever you wanna call it, in this video I unbox the statue and review it, giving you a really good look at the piece and if you should get it for your collection. And... Yeah I think you should!

Can’t see any paint errors on sonic.. his muzzle is pretty poor under his eyes
So I wondered who would be the first person to bring this up.
When I start writing the script for these reviews, I take a good look at the statue or product as best I can.
Now when it comes to actually filming stuff for the script. When I get the footage, load it into my computer and see it for the first time at 1080p full screen. Chances are I'll see some errors or problems.
Which I did see in this case...
There's two key issues here as to if I then refilm or re-record audio which are as follows.
"Would I have noticed this... if I were not nose to nose with the item?"
No is the answer, unless you are REALLY close, or taking VERY detailed shots with a camera, you are not going to notice those problems when this up on display.
The 2nd... How much is this Vs what it is?
It's a $70 / £70 statue featuring multiple characters that's quite large.
For the price point vs what it is, what few errors there are, it's probably worth just leaving my opinions as is at the time, but showing the video of where you can see the problems if looking up close.
Like at some points in the video I show the statue up on a shelf, and even at mid range... If I hadn't have posted the close up footage, how many people would have noticed unless pointed out?

It's a cool statue & I have one on preorder myself & am very excited to get it. But man, you have got to be joking about there being "no paint errors or blemishes"! You literally have the camera zoomed in, focused on very blatant paint errors on Sonic's face as you're telling us there are no errors!

@@BadnikMechanic Yes, probably. It's actually very obvious. I would certainly notice it if I had it in my own hands. Whether I would notice it from a distance or not in your video is irrelevant though. You outright stated there are NO blemishes or paint errors, which from your own footage is a demonstrable lie. I saw your reply to someone else's comment on this, saying you saw the footage whilst editing & decided it was too minor to warrant recording new audio, but I have to disagree. That means you saw your mistake, but actively chose not to correct it. If the paint errors fall within your own personal tolerance range, then that's absolutely fine, you're entitled to that opinion. But I think you should have redone that small section of audio, to reflect what we're clearly seeing on screen.

I might be in the minority, but I prefer when you talk in real time when you review instead of using a voiceover. It makes you sound more genuine and authentic. I still like this video, just wandered if others felt the same.
So here's the thing...
I would absolutely rather do that, it would mean I can do videos a lot faster... But... There's a few problems.
The first big problem... People don't seem to watch 'classic' unboxings anymore, in fact it's been this way for years now.
I don't really know what it is, but the vast majority don't sit through pieces to camera anymore unless there's a lot of that really odd jump cut editing going on, or... unless the channel has literally hundreds of thousands of subscribers and you're guaranteed to have some quadruple numbers in the first 24 hours, it's too much of a risk, especially for something that someone has asked you to take a look at.
The second problem, and this is really THE MAIN issue, doing that means I'm limited as to where I can film, and literally the only space I have produces a lot of echo, and my current camera has a terrible on board mic even without echo.
So I must use an external mic connected to another recording source.
There's two problems here... All the current mics I have are not viable for recording in echo'y locations. You can really hear this problem when I sit down at the table, the echo in that second is quite bad even though the mic is right there. The small bit where I say "Which means this statue is the first to show Eggman about to win" that's the cameras own mic which is awful.
The second, even if I did have a shotgun mic, which would solve A LOT of the problems, I'd also need a better laptop or some other portable computer that would record the sound at a really nice level
The problems here, Shotgun mics are amazingly expensive considering what I'm doing, and a decent laptop or portable device to send the audio to is also A MASSIVE investment.
So unless someone pops me a major donation or a lot more people join my Patreon and I can finally get some decent recording equipment, I'm absolutely throttled by what I have vs the conditions I'm in.

@@Bookish1995 Well he's probably taking his time working on a rather large video and since he also has to balance real life with that it can take a bit of time to do.

It looks not too bad, though I would like another one of those dynamic looking Diamond Select models that they did for Sonic and Tails, as they were grabbing an Emerald, but with Amy in her older Adventure incarnation for consistency with Sonic and Tails. After all, with the Cable Guy models being the younger versions of the characters it'd make sense to use the older versions for these other models.

6:23 nice you included first 4 figures where they make high quality statues and yes the UK 500 pounds is a lot however in the US I’ve seen statues like the tornado go to 2300 USD and super classic sonic is 3500 USD which is absurd

Why do pepole buy pepole pay more for Statues that are higher end? Cause the materials as mentioned. And that they are Hand painted and Sculpted by Professionals. And idea of limited availability so they kinda like investing in something. By no means im saying that the Sonic Diorama is horrible I may actually get one for my desk. Myself and other like the idea of just have a little more quality control. Cause there was some Paint over lap on it. But again every is untitled to there opinion (:

Turned off at "there are no paint errors" whilst showing blatant pain errors. I mean, fair enough you could miss the tiny blemishes on Robotnik, but the overspill on Sonic's eyes? Come on now. Clearly a promo vid from someone scared to be honest about the product for fear of risking future freebies.
Well maybe if you'd kept watching you'd have reached the chapter where I go over the problem the statue has 😂
And also come to the realisation that most of the shots in the video are very extreme closeups of said statue yet when the statue is on display like I also show in the video, suddenly those paint mistakes aren't exactly visable.
@@BadnikMechanic You mean the chapter where you talk about a loose leaf? No mention of paint there. And yes, the shots in the video are close ups, but did you not WATCH that self same video whilst recording the commentary of "I could not see any blemishes"? Whether they're visible from distance is kinda irrelevant, it's a review, you're supposed to pick these things up and not claim the clearly visible blemishes don't exist. You cocked up, just own it.
