Kitchen Fork is a VideoSong, a new medium with 2 rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).
Special thanks to Stephanie Albert, the wonderful violinist!!! Isn't she awesome?!?!
Kitchen Fork, by Jack Conte
Lyrics:
Wake from a dream where I was stuck losing my teeth. Lucky for me it was all fake or not what it seemed. Where, oh where do we go next, haunted pillow beneath my head? Where does it go? Pick out her heart with a kitchen fork, pin down her arms. And wake from the scar still feeling sick. Where did it get started? Where, oh where did this come from? Oh my God, my head's a gun. I let myself go. Who's this kid who wakes each night? And takes me on these wretched rides? Once I flew above the cars, and the wind blew gratitude through my heart. I let it all go. Save us from our own two heads. Can I keep just one and ditch the rest?
jack conte is extremely underrated
Yes.
ikr
bchbchcringe oh He was pretty famous back then.
Very true
Even though he's the creator of Patreon but yeah whatever
Can't say I'm the only one who found this song after watching that Slay The Princess animatic right?
No me too. It's so good but I can't help seeing the bird man whenever I hear it lol
I was just about to comment that lol
Helloo
Same
I mean the story of Slay the Princess of Kitchen Fork basically go hand in hand, they both emphasized that simultaneous longing for some kind of intimacy, burning frustration, and desperation for at least just one thing to make sense.
For being made 14 years ago this is unrealistically good
I actually thought it's something newer lol
that's what I thought
The beauty of art is not constrained by something as limited as time.
There’s lots of good old songs
I love the feeling this song gives off. It's like a quiet swirling vortex. It's not exactly sinister or depressing, but it has the dragging feeling of being sucked in. I guess it's akin to watching something horrible happening and not being able to look away but instead it's hearing a story we know isn't going to end well? It's hard to explain but good job. I'm defiantly going to check out some of your other stuff.
holy crap well said dude, I've seen a lot of descriptions in the comments but this one is spot on
I like the feeling too it’s kinda sinister, alarmed, and like a vortex. I love it
I like to think that it progresses into the song Long Long Time Ago.
I can't get out...
That's an absolutely perfect way to describe it tbh
it's so interesting how he uses a pillow to make it sound like that. this is why I love him! so creative...
but is the pillow haunted?
I come back to this every now and then
Funny to think that this man is literally the CEO of Patreon now lmao
Wait what 💀
WTF YOU'RE RIGHT.
wtf since when
lmao why is this like actually just true i´ve been listening to him for a while now and i had no idea about this
HOLY SHIT HE IS OMG
This song makes you feel completely fucking empty.
same.
It's like, not a calm void feeling of empty but an extremely powerful feeling of empty, that only Jack Conte could make you feel
11254man yea I love it
It's like you're falling into a pit of madness and insanity
but in an oddly good way
this sounds like something that would be in a movie like Coraline
Or any Tim burtin movie
nixx yos
So does bloody nose
yes just yes
YessssSSSSSS
I've only listened to Jack Conte for a little bit, he is so different but in a really good way. I find myself always coming back to Kitchen fork or Bloody nose, though I knew he was different when I saw the look in his eyes when he talked about going on tour. He just had this shine, passion, in his eyes. He was obviously very excited about this and the shine in his eyes told me that he was just different in many ways from other singers now.
I reminded me of some sort of happy kid--
Like a kid that gets a really cool present-??
I don't know but it was cute lmao
I notice that too. There are famous people who get so used to it it's like clockwork for them. But when it's people like me deciding to write a song and having it turn out well gives artists a load of passion. There is still a lot of happiness in with that hard work and pride.
Eat is actually my favorite song of his.
Yiu are completely correct you are right bro
Good shit right here
that profile pic tho
+Hikaru Kimaru me always new Elmo was a pyromanac...

@@Charles-qx6yz ah damn, thats kinda funny
sorry! here you go:
"who's this kid who wakes each night, takes me on these wretched rides?"
His voice has this haunting beauty in it. not to mention the creative lyrics AND beats. The stuff freaks you out while you get this sense of awe thats impossible to ingore...I can't help but get addicted to this stuff!
Ikr
learned this song existed from an AMV about "slay the princess" and it fits so well with the uncomfortable feeling of that game...
Same! It's practically perfect, thought I'd give a look at the original
bless this man and his voice
You're on a path in the woods.
Wait, haven’t we already been here before?
At the end of that path is a cabin
And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess.
You are here to slay her
You’re here to slay her.
this genuinely is like a capture of everything in my life, this song feels like if my very soul was turned into a song, thank you jack conte, I know you won’t see this but I can dream.
I see you, bud. Thank you for the kind words. Makes me feel so great reading this comment. I hope my music makes people feel seen / less alone / more understood. So it’s wonderful to read this. Thank you for the kind words.
@@JackconteWoah, the man himself, even after 15 years
Whoa, did anyone else hear the faint laughter of children when he sang "Wake from the scar, still feeling sick"?
I suggest wearing headphones and turning up the volume if you want to hear it.
spoopy
Mimzy WOAW THATS TRIPPY AND SPOOPY
ye, i also heard it 0-0
Mimzy what time was it at .3.
Jxmesie I hear it most at 1:16
Found you from a Game art animation AMV of kill the princess and I am SO happy to have found you through their proper credit :D
Slay the Princess is peak
peak animation plus peak music
This is one of those songs that, even though I love it, I would NEVER have my friends or family listen to it because they would probably think I'm a psychopath.
Trinscribbles This is me with almost all the music I listen to.
@@zebedeezing4181 yeah, same, hehe
@@zebedeezing4181 same here
@@zebedeezing4181 Jack Conte is the only artist I can not mention my friends and family
@@vivianagodfrey5084 you can, but only as the ceo of patreon
As someone who suffers from impulsivity and is a high functioning autist, i must say, this song truly just my mind in a nutshell, suffering from mixing up reality with the figments of my mind, always fearing losing control of oneself to violence, and over all questioning ones will to exist, i must say, this is a masterpiece
As a violinist I absolutely love the incorporation of violin in this song. It's so hauntingly beautiful and the part in the middle of the song where the all the parts play in unison is chilling, as well as the note the song ends on. There are so many elements in this song that pull it together, like the glockenspiel part. This song is a lovely example of usually classical instruments being used in a non classical context and it works perfectly. I hope to be able to pick out a few parts of this song to learn.
(LYRICS)
Wake from a dream,
Where I was stuck losing my teeth.
Lucky for me it was all fake
Or not what it seemed.
Where, oh where will we go next,
Haunted pillow beneath my head?
Where does it go?
Where does it go?
Where does it go?
Pick out her heart
With a kitchen fork,
Pin down her arms.
Wake from the scar,
Still feeling sick.
Where did it get started?
Where, oh where did this come from?
Oh my God, my head's a gun.
I let myself go.
I let myself go.
I let myself go.
Whose that?
Can you, reach in time?
Takes me, all these,
Wretched hours?
Once I flew above the cars,
And the wind blew gratitude through my heart.
I let it all go.
I let it all go.
I let it all go.
Save us from our own two heads.
Can I keep just one and ditch the rest?
thank u omg ;;
It literally says in the description...??
its in the description.
stop this copy and paste
Emma Hedgehog I needed to set it in lyrical order because I have a hard time reading it in the discription.
no
HARDCORE EARGASM
Fuck it Conte, you did it again
This song does not feel 14.
I've seen a lot of stuff lately that has reached me to my nightmares and I like to listen to this song and bloody nose before bed. it fuels my creativity and makes me vomit at 3 am. I love it
are you ok?? :(
+Heyyy Sup hell yeah
This song plays with my head too. Although I haven't vomited yet, I do have to take a break from listening to it.
Baxter Porter I've had dreams over time that are scarily alike to the lyrics in this song...
Yeah, I was thinking that this song might mess with my dreams. Main reason why I went off it is because I didn't want to end up like op
Damn... 2009... Damn... 9 years later... Damn... You're still amazing
i have a theory that this song is about someone who experiences such pain with things in the past and cant seem to forget them hence "where do we go next", they have a mental illness maybe hence "save us from our own two heads" and they have nightmares because of the illness hence "wake from a dream where i was stuck losing my teeth" and "haunted pillow beneath my head" and they know its all in their head but still cant shake the fact hence "lucky for me it was all fake or not what it seemed". the mental illness might effect their emotional state because of "pick out her heart with a kitchen fork", "wake from the scar still feeling sick", and "once i flew above the clouds".they obviously want to be saved because of "save us from our own two heads, can i keep just one and ditch the rest"
here's how i think the story goes **ahem**
some tragic accident happened in the past and this person got a mental illness from it. the mental illness effects their emotional state and their sleep. they have constant nightmares and switches from one emotion to another in a blink of an eye. they know its effecting them so they search for help, wanting to break free from the chains of the illness.
if you made it to the end of this comment well....thanks and congrats. tell me how u feel about my theory
(also im not saying its fact i just thought of it and said "oH tHiS mIgHt bE cOoL")
His voice reminds me of that singer that sung Dear Rabbit.
Wait. The song's called I Know I'm a Wolf. Oops! ^^`
sans you are everywhere 😂
+papyrus yo rather papyrus NO!!
+Frisk Fox Yess I love that song!
TTTickleMachines Me too!
Wtf how come no one told me this guy is the CEO of patreon?!
a little over 10 years this has been around. once every few years, i'm reminded of it, and i listen to it, and then forget about it again, and it never ceases to unsettle me in a way that nothing else can. Here's to 10 more years of the cycle!
It appears that this song has been getting recent attention, despite it's upload date. Pity that more of your brilliant songs aren't resurfacing.
Ten years! UA-cam!! I love this song!
It makes you feel dizzy, like you are in a tornado, you're fully out of control and you're getting spinned around in a swirl of nightmares, dying realitys and madness. So good!
This era of Jack, the video song, the intensity, the creative magic, is the absolute best. I can't believe 14 years have gone by so quickly. These creations still give me chills. 🏆⭐
thanks! i just bought it, and i'm officially in love. i've been looking for a deep bassy fat snare sound, and i found it in this tiny little drum shop in LA. it's an old gretsch.
can’t believe i’ve been listening to this for almost 10 years
oh we will, we will. it won't sound exactly like the recording, but it'll be coooooool!
I remember listening to this song from a undertale speedpaint and it's all thx to a AMV of Slay the princess that I found that song.
Idk if it's just because I'm an extremely emotional person, but I kinda teared up at the fact that so much raw talent is so unrecognized... I mean, this song is so amazing.... Allot better then most of the songs that are considered "amazing" these days... When I first heard this song (ok I'm not gonna lie, it was the UNDERTALE amv) I thought this was going to be some really cool new band to fall in love with... The fact that this man is literally a youtuber with less then a million followers and creating this all in his home amazed me, like, I mean that's just... Wow! You're so damn talented, and I hope you become popular and join a band, or go solo, (whatever you prefer) because you deserve it.
ChiaSeed my music is underated too...
It sucks not having a decent numbered audience
One of my favourite songs of all time, it's such an eerie, chaotic sense of losing control, perfectly emulated by the instrumentation and vocals. Such an underrated song from such an underrated artist
To imagine if he hadn't come up on youtube, and showed us his ideas, we wouldn't have had patreon.
Jack conte is the clay animation of music. Each song is an art piece and a story and gives you a feeling only available in this art form of Jack Conte.
this song was wayyy ahead of its time.
God this is a masterpiece, it just works so well. Great voice, great combination of the instruments, creepy vague lyrics, it's just awesome. Will be remembering this song forever.
YALL THIS GUY IS THE CEO OF PATREON NOW-
I honestly love this song! It's amazing and I can't stop listening to it! Even though it's 7 years old, it's astonishing and I absolutely LOVE IT!
agreed!
+HowlinMoon Meeh too
9 years.. jeez
10 years...and it’s still a damn banger
i had no idea that the guy behind this song was so goofy! that's so fun!! i hope he got lot's of that juice he mentioned
i love this song since a I was little child!!! mood and instrumentals and words are outstanding !!!!!
yep still holds up after 12years
Learning that this guy is the CEO of Patreon after all this time was smack on the back of the head, that's for sure
this song is beautiful. i love the piano and violin, they make the song more magical. i especially like the muffled part. i like to listen to this song while drawing, it gives me inspiration. i get lots of feels while listening to this song.
yeah!
Anyone slay any princesses lately?
Commenting now 2021 but have had this song on my playlist since the day this video was posted and it’s still one of my favorite songs. Thank you jack
good shit goOd ShiT there's some goOD SHIT
GOOD SHIT RIGHT HERE
VERY GOOD SHIT
coming here after spotify wrapped told me this was my top song of the year with 236 plays 😅
Probably not intended, but this song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of sudden bursts of life long trauma. all of those times where pain went in one way and not out the other, making an unstoppable escape from your body, from your mind, from your heart.
After years and years of trauma and sheduled normality, you suddenly lose sight of your average day to day life and become blinded by all of the emotions youve been forced to keep in your heart, all the pain youve been force fed all your life.
Its horrible because when it eventually ends, it leaves an after taste of no bitterness, no anger, no sadness and no fear, just, despair.
Despair at what youve become.
Despair at the damage that will never go away.
Despair at the non-negotiatable reality that has been seared into the deepest part of your heart, a scar with an uncontrolable pulse.
Your childhood asks you to stop thinking about it, so you sniff up your tears, and wait for the next time it happens, looping the cycle, and sealing your heart back fully in its birthplace, just to get a few more hours of your day over with.
So yeah um anyways i would say its a good song-
thank you spotify weekly
This song fits slay the princess so perfectly
Jacks songs feel like the definition of insanity
Very beautiful
He’s absolutely shredding that acoustic guitar
Why are there no other songs like this? Am I not looking hard enough?
jack stauber and bo en are somewhat similar to this
@@thegenderofkelidk I haven't seen any releases from jack stuaber remotely similar to jack contes
@@thegenderofkel im sorry how the fuck are bo en and jack stauber even remotely similar to this??? pale machine 2 has a couple of songs (and by mean a couple i mean exclusively that one orchestral section in our time) with a similar sound but not at all in the same style as conte's work. jack stauber also is far more experimental and has very few similarities to this.
also jack stauber and bo en are way goofier lol
i am killed ascended and resurrected and then ripped apart and then sewed back together and then poisoned buried and brought back to life and hugged so tight like it's the last hug i get before being sat down onto electric chair
and then i fall down the highest cliff just to drown in the deepest sea
and in the end it carries me to the shore gently
thank you for this experience
This is how my brain feels woth ocd, especially the two heads part. Thank you for making this beautiful song.
The lyrics at 1:58 are:
Who's that kid who wakes each night
Takes me on these wretched rides
Man cant believe this guy is the creator of patreon
Damn this is 10 years old... ITS SO AMAZING THO
Criminally underrated
can't believe i've been a fan of this guy for a pinch longer than four years now. thats like 1/4 of my life. I love you and your work Jack! I am overly aware that you will never, EVER see this. But i'm glad you have found your life as the CEO of Patreon! it's amazing!
being able to see everything he did to make up the song just makes it so much more amazing, it really makes you notice the little quiet aspects that you wouldn't be able to pick up if you just listened to it
dude, i usually don't get involved in these discussions, but that was freakin hilarious. you had me for a second. amazing.
I'm gonna say it, Jack Conte walked so Jack Stauber could run
well said
Yup
love em both
my reaction to the thumbnails of Stauber's vids;
Oh god.
oh god
oh god
oh god
*oh god*
oh god
oh- that's who made that song
*oh god*
naw man, Conte flew so Stauber could walk
I don't know what the song's style is, but it make me depressed also make me feel good in the same time I love it.
Oh my god, just the way his voice is, and the gestures when he sings, and the visuals, it’s just... AAAAAAAHHH!!! This song is AMAZING!!!
I think the part at 2:16 is a really creative idea to change your own voice by talking through a pillow/blanket. Props to that guy. 👏
STILL FIRE!!!!!!!!!
(the most haunting song you've heard in your life) We're going on tour wahoo :D
I wish I knew the lyrics for the sections where he sings his heart out. I WANNA SIIING IIIIT! I know there are lyrics in the description, but it's not included!
Damn. I just found your stuff recently, and I was so sad to see how long ago it was posted, and how inactive the channel has been since then. This is an amazing piece of work. Thank you for making it and sharing it with the world.
Jack actually still makes music with his wife. Their band is called "Pomplamoose"

Just found this from spotify and DAMN
I don't care if it's December
Imma still listen to dark music

Good job on youtube for reccomending me something I like. Captures the magic of Tally Hall I so desperately needed more of in my life
WHY IS THIS SO UNDERRATED???!!?!?!? AAAA I STILL LOVE IT 9 YEARS LATER XD
I feel like I'm about to fall into an obsession with this guy now that I've heard this one amazing song.
Man....I wish I could've been the one to roll up cables n' socialize with you guys (and gotten the free tour!), but I wasn't even 10 when this video came out 😂
Doesn’t change how much I love this song though!
Im here because of silly crow bean
Ah yes. The only popular Jack Conte song.
Y'all know he's the founder of our lord and savior Patreon yeh?
Check out his other stuff, I'd suggest Lonely Ghost or Impressions.
When I realized what Patreon did to lift Lackadaisy off its slumber I knew he had done something important.
I also eventually realized he just didn't have time to make solo music anymore, at all.
I grew up with Jack Conte and Pomplamoose. Losing his music somehow was just like losing half of Pomplamoose.
(And to be honest I wasn't at all into his Conte EP, which made it worse. I don't like to admit it but hey, nobody should be forced to lie about disliking a specific work from an artist.)
Regardless, I miss him.
Vibing while my heart is picked out with a kitchen fork
The ending just shows the age, god this song is so good and so ahead of it’s time
I wish that this song was on Amazon Music so that I could listen to it all the time. I am thoroughly obsessed.
