Coyote is an animal with the comprehension and ability to know right or wrong. Essentially shown to be on equal grounds as human. It stands to reason that he is held to the same standards and laws as humans. The real question is whether roadrunner is also held to the same standards as human. If so, you got a situation that is essentially human on human murder. Which leads to execution. If you consider roadrunner an animal now you have to find a place that considers animal mutilation or cruelty (can't think of what exactly it would be considered) an offense worthy of execution.
