We enjoyed the heck out of building boulderdash and sunset...unique trails and really unique builds. Stoked you liked them! When you stopped and said "trying to see if there's like another weird rock slab, nah I think that's the one" haha your Spidey sense was correct... There was an alt line slab, you just looked the wrong direction. At 12:15 in your video, look to your right and you'll see the entrance. :) Anytime you're in town, reach out. I know you know some locals but we can always get you set up with somebody including one of the builders of any of these trails, if you ever want a tow in, info on hidden alt lines or just some insight into how a trail was built. :) cool vid man! P. S. One time watching a local cruise through that rock garden at the end or hanging on their rear wheel through it and you'd have all the confidence you needed. ;)
I ride Whistler, Sun Peaks, Squamish regularly in Canada. Some real gnarly technical trails, but sunset is by far the gnarliest high-consequence trail I've ever ridden. Many sanctioned trail builders in Canada don't bother building trails of such high consequence. Big props to you guys on building this.
Spent a month here in winter 2023 (Canadian here). I often daydream about riding the Alpe d'Huez climb and Red Mountain Rush trail again. Absolute dream trail system. I've ridden all over the PNW, done some world class riding and Alpe d'Huez still is in my top 2 favourite climb trails.
I appreciate you showing the failures. It gives people a more realistic view of the difficulty they are in for if they attempt a new trail. I think the channels that only show the highlight reel set unrealistic expectations.
I’m with you man. I have buddies who get so pissed when they don’t hit a move and I could care less. Sure I’m tempted to try big moves but if I don’t I never feel bad about it.
Hawes ain't no joke! Hit hawes the first time 1 year after I started mountain biking and fell off the side of one of the trails, ripped my biking shorts, and lost my keys. Had to ride back to where I crashed to find my keys and ride down it again before it got dark, good times. (I fell off to the right of the trail and was caught by a bush near where you are at 23:00)
Love Boulder dash! Doing it as a night ride is something else! That last feature made me second guess myself, especially at night. Haha, but you are right. It's definitely a full commitment. Awesome riding!
so i’m driving up to hawes right now… and this video pops up! i pulled over to watch it… fantastic brain! i can’t believe you do those thing by just riding up to it the first time. also i really love the techy climb sections on sunset. that climb is the wrong way lol. i’ve done that before and i was too spent to do sunset ridge for the first time. i had to take another easier trail down.
Brian, I appreciate the caution and humility when condtions warrant such. Any black diamond on-site ride should garner respect for the terrain and procede safely. We understand your sponsors contractual obligations, having the picture n' picture, alleviates some of the over saturation. Bottom line, your video production values are solid, the rides challenging, your commentary educational.
Fun to watch you do more Hawes this morning. Did I already mention Wenatchee trails?😊 Most people do ride up through the neighborhood on that side of the system.
Thanks for the vid! Felt very relatable to this video. It's refreshing to see the hesitation and self talk. Guess I'm not the only one, albeit I'm gabbing about small drops on blues and your handling rock gardens on double blacks. Got to start somewhere, I guess.
Great ride bro! It’s been awhile here for me out her in Phoenix since I used to ride various trails here on a 99’ model rockhopper. Been busy working & raising family. I used to smash trailhead-100 to dreamy draw a lot. Dynamite trailhead. Picked up a new Giant stance 1 to get my feet wet again. Now I’m ready to get back into the saddle!
Amazing trails. I’d love to try these. It’s cold and wet in the Uk right now. My dropper post failed last year and I’ve had to put something unmoving on till I can fund a new one. Happy trails!
Love it, good work man. I was just there a few weeks ago.....the Boulderdash features were hard enough, I decided to pass on Sunset. I'll have to get it next time! Hawes is so good though, RMR and High Ridge were my favorites.....I'll definitely be back for more!
Normally i see sponsored drinks and go "yeah whatever" but if i see that salt stuff in a store or something, id give em a shot. Pre workout works quite well, but it tastes like... Whatever color it is
That looks like a very challenging trail. Bring lots of water! There's no shame in rewarding yourself with a motel room and a shower. Especially as we get older. I'm not comfortable on the phone either. I make an exception for family and close friends.
100%, UA-cam is pretty much just a travel brochure. I don't think I've ever been able to watch a video and then actually ace some crazy feature. Gotta see it to believe it!
Haha I never noticed my bike making tons of noise until I started filming now it's every creak coming from the bike is extremely loud. I love your videos thanks for bringing great content in a sea of UA-cam junk. Ordered me some of that Hydration drink stuff to give it a try.
Glad you enjoyed the ride! You're either paying $3 a month on Patreon to directly support the channel and get ad-free and longer videos, or paying with your time with my sponsors. Either way, it's the only way I'm able to keep the channel alive.
easy to run out of gas after climbing upper hawes and THEN cactus garden.. im not a fan 🤨 there's a road nearby but last time i went the gate was closed. where you started the fun @3:38 i was able to clean today, in 3 short segments. that is to say, no hiking for the first time out of prolly 6 attempts. woohoo!
nice vid - it's my feeling that not every feature on every trail is meant to be sent 1st time and i have no shame in saving some stuff for next time :)
Brian, welcome to my backyard here @ Hawes for some awesome MTB'n. Would enjoy taking you out to dinner. Please feel free to contact me. If not, definitely eat @ Red White & Brew!!!
@@bkxc Do you think it’s ok to consume 2-3 a day if you’re consistently active!? Like 5 times a week. I like to go to the gym and mountain bike and sometimes I do both the same day!

That cactus garden climb is absolutely no joke. I made the mistake of doing alone one time and had almost nothing left when I got to the top.
Hahaha, yup!! I did it twice

Most definitely! It's about the whole experience
Gopro does these trails no justice. I hit sunset ridge once or twice a year and it seems to get gnarlier every time. Well done! 💯🤙
Very cool!! It's a beast
Thank you for filming fails and first times. I love hearing all the self talk, very real.
Thanks so much!

Oh man!!! Losing the keys is the WORST!!
Correct we go through the hood “Las Sendit” and sometimes do a partial shuttle up Bush Hwy>Usery Pass Rd which can shave off 700’.
That makes sense!
Yeah Brian, that looked fun! You’re smart playing it safe when you’re solo. Happy St. Patrick’s!🍀🤘

Thanks a ton Bruce! Glad to hear that!!
Great video and great job hitting some pretty tough trails. You crushed 3 of my favorites out there at Hawes!
So good!!
Some of those cacti are just massive! Good video and awesome looking trails.
They're YUUUUUGE!
Give yourself credit where it’s deserved. You got most of those tight technical climbs. Great video
I am so happy about that! They were TOUGH

I love Hawes, my parents have a place a few mins from Hawes so I take an annual break from the wet PNW winter and go visit them every year haha

I lived in Arizona for 3 years and Hawes is a great system however always liked Pemberton Loop a little more on my Wreckoning.
Very cool! I haven't taken a look at that one
love Hawes...gret job to the trail stewards!
Such a great system!
I've tried to study trails on UA-cam and ultimately you just have to ride them to know them

The HD6 sure is a big bike. How would you compare it to the Ripmo you had before? Seems like everyone's going bigger and bigger--where does it end?
Yeah, it's definitely a little tougher to get some of the tight techy climbing challenges. But I feel much more confident on the downhill
Im pretty sure the hd6 is a burly bike for burly intentions. But I gotta say that the Ripmo has grown on me. You were excellent on that bike
Yeah, it was solid!!
Good stuff!
Thanks!
I also ride IBIS. It makes me feel a bit cooler to see you on it. lol 8)
I know most people will say Sedona or South Mountain, but I think Hawes has the best mtb in AZ.
It's pretty great!
Citrus salt!!! Chocolate on the other hand is ..... 🤣 Are those Calirado Kid gloves?
Haha, I never really got into the chocolate stuff!! Yup love the excuse gloves
"Time to get a bike bro" lol
Hahah yep
Great video thanx !!
Do you miss your ripmo? That’s the thought going thru my head as you’re hike a biking
I'm feeling pretty good on this bike!!
Watched in hurricane Utah and I'm riding something new and the offroad games
Very cool!!
Must be pretty techy. It's not often that I see you get off and walk.
Big time! Super jank
Genial amigo gran video

Gracias!!
I'm with you there with phone calls, buddy. I've no issue striking up a conversation with strangers, but phone calls always get me hesitating.

if you are still in AZ i would invite you up to Pine, but its too muddy from the snow we got yesterday! how long you around these parts?

Time to get a bike bro😂
Where’s the BKXC stem cap?
Trail One stealth cap now!
Just add pink Himalayan salt to your water.
How many packs of LMNT can you consume in one day?

Half liter!
any problem with this bike ?
It's been solid!
Dood…you could not have picked a tougher way to get to Sunset Ridge or Boulder Dash. Next time hit up us locals…we will show you around.
I’m out there a couple times a week. What is the preferred route for these?
Oreos don't taste as good as they used to.
I feel the same!
Splitting headache that pierces your skull ☠️
Guess my hydration routine is shit, all I drink is water 😅
If it works for you, keep going! But I needed some help.
