Today I’m taking on Tollgate, another different flavor of Mt. Hough. I was hoping to do a double shuttle, but things didn’t quite work out.

Nice video. Good to see the recovery from the fire. Haven't ridden or worked on trails in that area and nice to see from your POV. I'm a trail builder/equipment trainer for the USFS and your channel is great for me to expirence trails all over the world.

Had the opportunity to ride Ore Chute based on your video a while back. Three thoughts: 1) The camera has not lied more about angles than on that trail. 2) Amazing difference between double black/pro lines at a park and those built from natural sections. Cleaning A-Line is nothing compared to Ore Chute. 3) Those that can clean Ore Chute with little more than a check are amazing. It really shows the difference between recreational and expert riders.
Pretty insane trail!! I think one day I’ll be able to film in 3D or full neuralink style and THEN people will be able to get an idea of how crazy some of this stuff is!

Did both the main Hough and Tollgate routes last summer, amazing rides! Going back in a few weeks to do the Taylor Creek route and chain that with Mills Peak, Everstoke and Downieville. Should be a blast!

Hated that crash man, glad it wasn't worse. I crashed my Ibis and it was rough on the bike but I got a professional to check it out and was told the bike was like new. Besides being a wonderful company, I trust their carbon. I still can't believe I didn't crack the bike. Life long Ibis rider from here on in. Great video

I've been curious how you like that HD6 in all the back country riding you do? It seems like such a big bike out there buy you make it look like it works fantastic for that. Probably not as quick as the Ripmo as far as climbing but I'm sure not that far off.
Yeah, it's working good! I think the Ripmo would be gooder though

After watching a lot of these videos and getting to know your taste in trails, you gotta check out East Rim in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park the next time you’re in Ohio for a 50 state shred. The “fun factor” on these trails is something else. Highly recommend them!

I’m 38. Doc recommended a TKA (total knee replacement). Want to get back into MTB. How old are you BKXC? You have any bad mobility problems, joint problems, limiting health conditions, etc?
Oh wow, total knee replacement is tough! I'm 42, nothing bad happening yet. If I have a problem I just wait a couple months and it goes away

Do you have any advice for people who want to become mountain bikers? How to practice, etc
Find a flat, easy accessible, local trail and just take it from there. You can find them on Trailforks just stick to the green trails. Bring plenty of water and snacks and don’t plan on long-distance rides.
Gotta find friends to help ease you into the sport!

Man all that riding and time outside and haven't seen a single mountain lion? I don't really get out much anymore. But I have seen Bob cats, Florida panthers. I saw a wolf once in the middle of the mountains. By far the coolest I saw was the bob cat. I was laid down in the brush and a racoon came out of nowhere and then all of a sudden the racoon started getting attacked right next to my feet I looked over and they bob cat and raccoon were fighting I got my ass up and ran lol.

I would never had thought about getting things in my ear during a crash. That's going to haunt me now. Maybe I'll ride with earbuds and low music so I can still hear things but protect my ears. Anyway, I'm glad you were able to get those taken out.

Are these trails all climbable too or one direction only?
You wouldn't want to climb these trails, but I think technically they are two way. The road or Taylor Creek is how most people climb up.

I always said you can just tell when you're not riding close to 100% and a crash in gonna happen if you don't play it safe. You could tell the whole ride leading up to it that you were a little squirrley. Just not your day. Good tuck and roll though!
TBH, I was worried too before the crash, thinking "slow down... slow down..."
Foxtails suck. I have to really watch out for them here in Northern AZ when I walk my dogs. They were really plentiful this year. Looks like a fun and a bit dangerous trail. Enough to make you feel alive! I like this type more than the rocky ones.

Foxtails are the worst in your socks, but they are a scourge for pets. My dog has had them burrow through his paws and even got one up his nose. Two vet visits, with anesthesia and endoscopy failed to retrieve it. After two days he hawk tuah’d it out in a huge bloody loogey🤢

How do you record?
He records on a GoPro with a chesty mount. He made a video explaining all his settings. I’m very thankful for that video. I have used almost all his settings.

Wow $4-5K for a medical consult. Here it would set you back at worst $80 and get ~$40 reimbursement at you GP and nothing if he bulk bills or if you went to the ED at the hospital it would be free.

How it works in the medical thing in there man? Private inssurance?
Most employers pay for half of health insurance every paycheck and then the other half comes out of their paycheck. I get insurance through my wife now. But when I was single I just bought insurance and paid for it myself.
