- So... this is the story of how we brought home a new family member from the adoption section of Pets at Home! She is settling in okay and will take food from our hands, we haven't tried handling her yet and are building trust. P@H had her listed as a male but she is definitely female, leave name suggestions in the comments section and help me get that song out of my head!! More videos on her soon including setting up her new enclosure xx

Excellent owner buying a detolf for your new hamster! She looks a real sweetie.
Thank you, I've had them before for hammies and they're by far my favourite. I can't go back to a shop bought cage after having the Detolf, you realise how much they enjoy the space. I hope she's going to be happy in it :) We aren't at the handling stage with her yet and I'm giving her time but she's eating out of my hand now and seems pretty gentle

I’m glad that they do a health check there, I live in the US and I was in the dark about Hamster Health until I did research and call vets, etc.

What a sweet story :) ...and really, anybody who does not ride the cart at IKEA obviously has not lived!
I am so envious of that pet store, it seems that in the US it is just about dogs and cats. They get most of the store and then birds, fish, reptiles.... and the smallest amount goes to bunnies, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice etc. who get one measly aisle that is crammed with cages and bedding. The amount of toys is so small that the word amount is really a misnomer.
I know this video was about you getting a hamster but honestly the part with Blue was the best part😹

same with me! I was all like:"I'll just look at the rescue website around me for future reference, ju-ju-just to see what kinds they have! I won't be getting a second one until much later.."
a few hours later I contacted the rescue and a week later I took Mick home.
But he just stole my heart, there was nothing I could do! He had been born and been raised at the rescue, the only one left together with his brother, Gregg. Nobody wanted the two redeyed baby and the foster lady told me she had given up hope of any of the two ever finding a forever home, she was really sad but at the same time very happy. So now I have 2 hamsters 😂
aaand, I would suggest Silver or Starry maybe, because she looks like a star to me 😎✨

@@BeckysAnimals yeah, he is! it turns out he is a grumpy old gramps on the inside, always complains if someone makes noise after he has just woken up and will waddle around just complaining to himself for about half an hour, even while eating. After eating and drinking he normally stops :'D I get him though, I'm the same in the morning.
I got my hamster at pets at home and he was my love at first sight! I loved him even though I didn't ;like red eyed hamsters.Then I realised red eyed hamsters aren't bad because of their eyes. And the woman gave me two cardboard boxes incase he would try to escape. Now he is so adorable ad has grewn too much! he's a dwarf hamster and my baby!

I think the majority of the adoption centre hamsters in pets at home are just the ones that haven’t been bought yet and are too old to sell in the main bit and some are from ones that get returned 🦋
Its not, my friend works there and she works at the adoption part and the animals have to fight or get returned to be there
I have both cages you bought. One is a temporary cage for when I go away
How does the adoption process work in pets at home? How much did you donate? Just wondering as I am planning to adopt one after Christmas xx
Hiya! Pets at home have a seperate section for their adoption animals, it's pretty much the same process as buying one from them but the money goes to charity. They will ask a couple of questions about what set-up you have, if you have any other pets and take your details so they can give you a call after a couple of days to see how they are settling in. Then they should do a basic health check to see that they are okay to leave and give you some tips on health issues such as wet tail. The adoption fee is a minimum donation of £8 for a hammie :) That's so exciting, good luck with the adoption xx
Hi I'm getting a hamster for my birthday in November. We already have everything we need except the hidey house and chews which haven't arrived yet. I'm getting my hamster from pets at home cause my mum won't let me adopt. How do you even like have an employee let you buy the hamster?????
I have degus that I adopted from pets at home, they never showed me how to check there health nor did they mention it. Luckily I already knew how to from having other rodents and from doing my research.
I am getting a male long haired Syrian soon. The name will be Coco. I saw him at the pet store and fell in love 🤣.

Cool I have 3 syrian hamsters 🤩❤️ oh man you guys have so cool stuff.. In my country yoh don't find the stuff you guys have there in the pet shops.. And not all kids lose interest in their pets my 4 years old sister and me never did in these years.. And in my country the pets hops are really good, my aunt works there at one and they do their best fir thw hamsters..some pet shops are bad, some are good.. Cool video ❤️😜

Carriers aren't that experience my was £6 and it just for cleaning
It would have been cheaper to buy a carrier than the cage but I already have several carriers at home so I didn't really want to waste money on another one that won't be used whereas the cage I am planning on keeping as a travel cage :)

Maddy Collins I know I’m a bit late haha x the lady said she was only aggressive because she was in cages with other hamsters and they were fighting most Syrians come tame, if not you can look up how to tame a hamster and hamsters sometimes nibble on your fingers when they’re not sure, if your hamster nibbles you don’t make any sudden movements like pulling ur hand out of the cage really fast and saying ouch it will scare the hamster x

Unfortunately this isn't the one near where I live, my local one is tiny. It doesn't have the same variety as this one and only has a couple of rescue animals in at a time but I like that they don't have a high turnover of animals, not good for filming though haha :)

No unless its 450 squarw inches of floor space its a bit snall
@@lsturgeonify that's only in the USA. In the UK it has to be 80 cm x 50cm as the minimum size for a hamster and syrians should have more. So no the grey cage she had her in near the start (not the Ikea one) was not big enough as a perminant cage :)

i know this is a long time ago but in the beginning when she starts to film in the store does anyone notice the "service dog" infront of her?? That dog is a fake service dog. Service dogs must be kept under control and they can't be sniffing stuff to the point the owner has to push them out the way.

How much is a hamster I’m getting one
It depends where you get one. I have mostly brought mine home from the adoption section of pets shops, they are a donation of around £12 from Pets at home or I adopt from websites like gumtree or preloved. If you live in the US I know some pet shops have adoption hamsters for free or people sometimes adopt from Craigslist.

When I was getting my hamster
He was put in a cardboard box
A very slim one!
23 sq inches!
My hamster was scared, confused, sad, wild, not tamed,
While we were in the car there were air holes,
He bit the holes and got out! I was holding her as we were in ikea because,
You can’t leave the hamster in a car
I was so annoyed,
He continuesly kept trying to run out of my hands I attempted to tame him as quick as possible,
And my lord! He was tamed! I was like, ‘wtf’
He stood still in my hands relaxed and happy!
It was quite strange, he bit me because a child came up to him, which I didn’t even know the child!
The child came up to my hamster and squeezed him! My hamster ran around again, I got the child’s parents to take her away from me,
I attempted the taming again!
It worked! We had to purchase a hamster ball so he could run around in it while I attached his detolf
Once he got in it I had chews all around, he went straight for them I took him out and looked at his teeth!
They were overgrown!
How could the pet store allow a hamster to have overgrown teeth? I have no idea!
