Im glad you know how to actually care for a hamster. Maybe once hes used to his cage you might want to give him a couple more inches of bedding in a certain area just so he can burrow. He may not be a “burrower” my last hamster always preferred being on top of the bedding, but a little more bedding never hurt hahah. Everything looks great and the bin cage looks big enough, its also amazing that you’ve had experience with another hamster so i know he will be in good hands!👏👍
Sage Dramberger thank you so much! And watching the footage back I totally agree with you about the bedding and I actually gave him several more inches so he could do some more burrowing 🐹😄😄
Because I have seen several comments about different concerns I just wanted to clear some thing up, 1. I have put several more inches of bedding in the cage since this video so Rhino can burrow, 2. Rhino now has an 11in wheel, 3. I realize I should not have touched Rhino right when I put him in the cage and for that I am sorry. ❤️ I did leave him alone for the next few day though. I have done a lot of research about correct hamster care, even though I did make a few mistakes in this video and I just wanted to let you all know I am still learning. Anyways though, anyone wanting updates about taming Rhino or just some cute pictures check out my hamster instagram! @fuzz.ball.hams
I’ve been looking at the comments to see if anyone said this, maybe I didn’t look hard enough😂. But it looks like you have the edible chew log. It has wood that they could eat and die from. They put honey in it so small pets would eat it. But sadly they haven’t taken it off of shelves and animals have died because of it
Christina Carlson okay. Fine. You can believe what you want. But I would recommend watching Victoria raechel for PROPER hamster care and also you should read up on this website called the hanster hideout forum. Some of the things on these two resources say that you should all ready be fully prepared before your hamster comes home. If you are taking your time setting up your hamster cage and not being prepared it could really stress for hamster out being in a tiny box/carrier while you try and set up your cage. Those are just the facts 😌💅🏼
I love that you have a bin cage, but there were some things that you could have done a little differently. 1. It's a good idea to set up the cage before hand so you can let them out right away. 2. It's not a good idea to handle them right away even if they were quite tame at the store. 3. @@kowowa3780 hi! I know this comment is about 9 months old, but what food would you recommend for a Syrian hamster? I am getting one soon, and I watched a couple you tubers but they all said to mix a ton of foods. I understand variety is important, but is there a good hamster food that offers variety in one bag?
please give yourself a pat of the back for this outstanding care! thank you so much for doing research, your cage, the wheel, even a sand bath! Amazing job!
Great care! For water you can use a bowl as it gives them easier access to water. Remember that minimum of 7 inchs of bedding so please add a bit more. If you can afford some more enrichment that's great also!
The sad thing is that they probably know they’re doing at least some things wrong but don’t care to change or give out better info. They take advantage of people who didn’t do research to make profit without caring ab the actual animal. 😞
What did they tell you at petsmart? I work at petsmart as a pet care associate and if an animal is up for adoption they are free. You don’t pay an adoption fee or else they are just selling it back to you. What people don’t understand is when we get a hamster returned we quarantine it for 3 days and then return it to sales floor as long as the animal is completely healthy. If they are sick they see a vet. If they end up needing treatment and something makes them unsellable they are placed for adoption. We LOVE when people come in to adopt the more scared, special needs or aggressive ones xxxxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ok so I’ve owned hamsters my whole life , and is now actually a hamster breeder . Throughout the years I’ve learned new things about hamsters , now I know so much , and my future job is to work with pets . I seen at the ending of the video you wanted some of your viewers tips for taming , mine are just to not feel scared or nervous when sticking your hand into your hamsters cage , because your hamster will sense that you are scared of it and most likely feel scared their self and bite you . I own hamsters at the moment , only because they don’t have homes at the moment because of corona my breeding job is slowed down , but I just wanted to let you know that if your hamster does bite you don’t be mean to it , it just feels threatened, and that’s how they protect her selves . I’ve owned a Syrian hamsters most of my life, and noticed that they are the best hamsters for beginners, and for everyone who wants a nice and calm hamster. I’ve only been bitten by my Syrian hamsters a few times, only because they were stressed out, thought my hand was food, smell something good on my hands, was woken up, or felt threatened of my hand next to them , in this war most likely only happen if there a new hamster . If you do have this problem make sure that when you first get your hamster you let it settle in the cage for 2 to 3 days , another thing that can help them feel comfortable of your hand, is to get a handful of their bedding and rub it all over your hands and place it back in the cage . HOPE THIS HELPED !!!
Hi! Congrats on your new special hammy Rhino! I’d highly recommend to add at least 6 inches of bedding in one area to allow him to display his natural burrowing ability, and make sure your wheel is at least 9 inches in diameter to prevent future back issues❤️ Besides that your hamster care is lovely! I have two at home myself ehe
As you said in the video once he gets bigger you definitely need to get a bigger weal by the looks of ot this is a great cage he is so cute but the weal fits him for now
I’m glad that someone actually takes care of a hamster for a video. Just some advice for next time, you want to make sure that the hamster goes straight into the cage when you get home, so you should have the cage set up already. Also you should make getting your hamster the last stop. It just causes less stress for the hamster. But overall great job! 🐹🐹🐹
Sophia Terry I’ve always left my small animals COMPLETELY alone for at least 3 days, usually a week, to adjust to their environment without me in their space. The only time I bothered them was to refill water and place food in the cage.
paige k I feel really bad about picking him up so soon, I guess it was just the adrenaline of that day. I did make sure I left him alone after that for several days to settle in.
NaturallyNicky it’s just something to learn from. Imagine how uncertain they feel being moved from a cage they’ve lived in for who knows how long, to a box, and a car ride, and into unknown territory.
I think its awesome that you used a bin cage! I love all the toys. Im glad you gave him a sand bath and an appropriate sized wheel. More people should take better care of their animals like this. Only recommendation is more bedding so he can burrow. 6-8 inches is recommended
Fluuffie Kitten thank you so much!! And I totally agree with you about the bedding and I added several more inches so hopefully he has more room to burrow 🤗🐹
as far as water you can get a small food dish or any type of small dish even if it’s not meant for hamsters for example a tea light candle holder. as long as it’s small enough that they couldn’t sit in it and a heavier type of material like ceramic or glass so they can’t tip it over it will work. you can also use a water bottle and some good things to attach with are industrial strength velcro or even the sticky tape that goes in command strips. although in my experience i have found even then the water bottles still fall it works for a few months at least.
Everything looks great! The only things I would recommend is giving him a slightly bigger sandbath as well as adding some kind of protein lab block to his food mix. Other than that cage looks amazing thanks for the quality content!
If you ever get another hamster you should buy a cage and then when you get home and make the bin cage put him in the cage so when you are making the bin cage because they don’t like to be in a box.
I would recommend giving him about 6 inches of bedding on one half or the whole thing so he can burrow and make tunnels but everything else seems amazing😊
I am so glad that you did your research on hamsters! I see so many people who don't do their research or impulse buy hamsters it makes me so sad :( My hamster just recently passed away but I will be adopting another one soon when the virus calms down.
Just a couple tips... If you don’t want him to tip over the toys you could give him a corner with only bedding. Put some peanut butter near the area the hamster drinks his water, that will attract him to it and he’ll start to drink the water. But besides that you really know how to take care of the hamster and he’s so lucky to have gotten adopted
I’m glad you have a big enough box for him to live in and enough bedding and food but I would just wait for him to climb out the box and have the home ready before but you are great caring for him! :)
very pretty set up and great care! And the only suggestions I have is getting him a bigger sand bath so he can have a lot of space to roll around in!! And I would suggest a water dish just cause it’s way easier and my dwarf hamster loves it!:)
So first of all I think that you really care about your hamster which is great! Nevertheless I would recommend you some things: 1. The cage looks a bit too small to me. I may also be wrong, if so I'm sorry but it looks like it's on the smaller side so I would give him a bigger home especially as he still grows. 2. I think the wheel is already too small because his back bends a bit. It is just slightly but it can still cause issues. I'm glad that you know you'll have to upgrade eventually but better do it sooner than later. Also I like that you gave him a sandbath but I think it's too small aswell, hamsters tend to go crazy in their sandbaths but as it's shorter than him he may hurt himself or it is just uncomfortable. 3. You may want to give him more bedding, at least in one corner. Hamsters love digging (I know there are exceptions but still) so you want to give him that opportunity :) Good luck with your hamster friend though, I'm very sure you're caring and just wanting the best for him!
Jikan Nenrei thanks for all the suggestions!! I will definitely be getting him a larger wheel as soon as I can and already added a few more inches for burrowing. Hopefully I can add on another cage at to increase the room he has at some point, not sure when that will be though (hopefully soon). Thank you again, you obviously know a lot about hamsters! 😉
I have a hamster that is a boy and I've had for about a month or month and a half. He is probably 5 months old. I think he was mishandled by the former woman and her toddler daughter who had him because he is so skittish (I adopted him off craigslist) and won't go onto my hand unlike my last hamster. He is super adorable though and sweet, he doesn't bite me. I'm just trying to feed him treats from my hand and pet him gently when I can.. I hope I can eventually hold him. Rhino is a very adorable hamster BTW ! Glad to see that you adopted and saved him out of that horrible situation.. My hamster Bobo(renamed him) wasn't in a good situation either. No toys, 1 hideout, wheel, tiny cage, hardly any bedding. He would always climb the bars. I'm glad we can provide a better living situation for these little guy''s welfare. Keep making awesome videos!
Your gonna have so much fun in quarantine with your hamster I am gonna get a GUINE PIG I Wish I could do it in quarantine time but my mom said when quarantine ends I will get my GUINE pig
Plz get 2 guinea pigs, your not doing it any favors by getting just 1. It can cause health problems. They are very social and are used to living in herds. Do some research as well about what kind of veggies is healthy and what type of hay to get and type of pellets. DON’T GET A HAMSTER WHEEL OR BALL! They break the guineas backs. Make sure to get a cage that is 10 to 13 square feet because they need a lot of room, the cages at pet stores are WAY too small. Plz don’t get a guinea pig if you don’t have the right items and don’t do research. Also I would recommend getting a cage fleece liner because it is way cheaper than bedding, but make sure they are cage fleece liners and not fleece blankets. Get 1 hideout for each guinea pig so they can hide. Don’t take them out for at least a day or 2 so they adjust well (including opening the box in the car). I would also recommend getting a kitchen scale to weigh them occasionally to check if they are losing weight (signs of illness). Check their feet every once in a while to make sure they are pink. Brush back their fur too sometimes to check for wringworm (it is a piece of fur missing and can be scaly and scabby) if there is hair missing behind the ears that is totally normal and not wringworm. They are prone to a lot of other illnesses though. Don’t listen to the workers plz if your gonna shop and not adopt/rescue, they only care about your money and not about you pet/pets. Plz take care of them good :)
He’s so cute and I love how excited you are to get him, but I couldn’t help but notice the 2 “snak shak” (I think that’s how it’s spelled) products on the left. Those are exactly meant for hamsters because of the high sugar and - what’s basically hay - content. I hope he live a long happy life😘
This is absolutely no hate at all you did so good trying to adopt him and as well as providing a bin cage but the wheel you gave him an 8 inch wheel cause it is to small for an adult Syrian. Also you could give him a bigger sand bath because he wouldn't be able to use it that much. And about the water bottle you can always pick up some industrial Velcro from your local hardware store. Other then that you did a really good job. I wish you and Rhino the best!
Thank you for all the great suggestions! I actually ordered him an 11in wodent wheel today and gave him several more inches of bedding. I also plan on giving him a huge sand bath for lots of digging and got a holder for his water bottle. Thanks again though, I really appreciate all the help!
I’m so happy that you have good care and actually care about your hamster!💕 you will have to upgrade the wheel when he gets bigger, a Syrian hamster needs at least an 11 inch, you will also need a bigger hide for him🤍 they actually need more bedding than people think, yes they can burrow in 4 inches but they can’t make a burrow. For them to be able to make a proper burrow they need 8 inches of bedding, you could make half the cage 8 inches. Ceep up the good care❤️❤️
incase you still need taming tips, i have watched all of victoria raechels youtube videos and my hamster has never bit me once. She is so tame that she will try to climb over her playpen to get to me. Victoria Raechel is a youtube i highly recommend. Hope Rhino soon starts to trust you.
I glad that you put lots of toys for your hamster to play with, but you should add more bedding you should at least 6 inches of bedding for Rhino to burrow in and put a bigger sand bath because I think Rhino can only just sit in it. What type of sand are you using though.
your hamster is so cute and i am so excited for you! this video was posted a month ago so i'm not sure if something has changed by now but i would suggest getting him a bigger wheel about 12 inches if you can :) i recommend Carolina storm wheels they are really big and my past hamster loved his. i don't want this to come across as hate or controlling, you seem to really know what you are doing and seem pretty educated. that's just my one suggestion for you but other than that i think you did a great job and i love that bin cages are becoming so popular now and it looks like a good size!
i am adopting 2 hamsters next week! the owner said theyre siblings , And i did some research hammies aren’t supposed to be together because they’re solitary so i bought 2 cages for em !
the way I set up the water bottle in the bin cage was by putting velcro on the box and in the water bottle so it would stick and unstick so I could refill it
this was posted a while ago but the bedding is not enough! they need 6-10 in. of bedding. i would recommend having even more than that just so the ham can have some more enrichment.
He reminds me of my past hamster he’s not alive anymore tho :( I would also recommend letting him come out in his cage by himself because it can cause stress if u just pick him up like that and put him in his cage And maybe you could add a little more bedding for him to burrow :) But u did a great job with the cage :]
I love using keytee clean and cozy hamster bedding!! It fluffs out better not waste like carefresh because because how much you have to put in it. I tried my best explaining the differences.
Never push him out of the box when you first get him let him come out naturally and the same bath is soooo small please upgrade it and add more bedding so he cam burrow x
You did so great on the cage and everything! Love this video! But one thing you need to do is add more bedding , hamsters burrow and sleep in burrows. But love the vid! And keep up the good work!❤️❤️❤️
hey! so i love that you know what your doing! for any extra info watch Victoria raechel on yt:) i do recommend using a dish for water instead of a bottle because it’s more natural for hamsters:) also setting up the cage before you get one so it cause them less time in the tiny carrier:) this goes to ANYONE reading this not just you lol

I’m so glad you took him he looks lush and hamsters deserve the best and it’s really bad the way he has been treat , love him ❤️
My mans literally lives in a large Tupperware container
Thats horrible! Why??
That’s not ok! Get him a better place to live
It's a joke everyone-
🕳 Don’t be so rude. You can’t take a joke. And hamsters can thrive in a large container like Rhino anyway.
You guys are stupid lol. Tupperware is plastic containers so he/she meant that the hamster in the video is living in the Tupperware container
I love I that you got a returned hammy , that’s so nice 😊. I’m getting a hamster on Saturday.
Omg he’s sooo cute! I’m really happy😃that he’s going home with someone who will give him an amazing life!
im so happy I finally found a youtuber who can actually take care of a hamster
After years of trying to get my parents to let me get a hamster they finally said yes and im getting it tomorrow!
Is it still alive?
This is one of the few you tubers I’ve seen who actually got a big enough cage and wheel, and actually got a sand bath and many toys 😁
I’m glad you have a big enough box for him to live in and enough bedding and food but I would just wait for him to climb out the box and have the home ready before but you are great caring for him! :)
What a cutie and I’m so happy this isn’t an impulse buy! But maybe add a couple more inches of bedding when you can!
very pretty set up and great care! And the only suggestions I have is getting him a bigger sand bath so he can have a lot of space to roll around in!! And I would suggest a water dish just cause it’s way easier and my dwarf hamster loves it!:)
So first of all I think that you really care about your hamster which is great! Nevertheless I would recommend you some things:
Hamsters love digging (I know there are exceptions but still) so you want to give him that opportunity :)
Good luck with your hamster friend though, I'm very sure you're caring and just wanting the best for him!
How cute, and wonderful that you know how to care for him! Keap doing what your doing, and he's so adorable!
Amy Goddard thank you!! 💕
Please get 2 cause they get lonely
Veronica’s Cavies Yes that’s extremely good advice!
The sand bath is to small but everything else is perfect for him!! 😊
7:29 .
The mesh wheels and the size of them at the pet store breaks my heart :(
I'm so glad your care is outstanding!
That's the same petsmart that i adopted my hamster 🐹 in wilmington NC! Love that petsmart
He’s so cute and I love how excited you are to get him, but I couldn’t help but notice the 2 “snak shak” (I think that’s how it’s spelled) products on the left. Those are exactly meant for hamsters because of the high sugar and - what’s basically hay - content.
I hope he live a long happy life😘
I watched this so many times bc I couldn’t find any other good video about buying a hammy!❤️
I’m going to get a hamster in like two weeks!!! I’m so excited!!! 😁
Make sure you’ve done your research ^^
You need atleast a 40 gallon cage, 6 inches of bedding, more textures, andmore hides and sprays!
you should not grab them by the waist. That scares them because in the wild thats how owls catch them.
you can always use a water bowl if a water bottle doesn’t work for your set up but i’m glad you actually know how to take care of him! :)
It's fun watching him explore
I recommend putting a few more inches of bedding on at least one third of the cage. Love his name too!
He is reallg beautiful 😍 I don't think I've seen a little star mark on their face like that before. He looks like a cinnamon black beauty
Love the video
Hi! Just a tip :) make sure you put more bedding in his cage so he has enough to burrow. But I love this video !
Ariana Rørvik the wheels fine backs not bending x and it is an 10 inch x so not that bad it looks like a smaller syrain for its age x
incase you still need taming tips, i have watched all of victoria raechels youtube videos and my hamster has never bit me once.
Nice set up! I would definitely put more bedding especially where he makes his nest! :)
i am adopting 2 hamsters next week! the owner said theyre siblings , And i did some research hammies aren’t supposed to be together because they’re solitary so i bought 2 cages for em !
Congrats on the new hamster.
Yasssss I'm freaking out too watching you providing the hamster a good proper life! thank you so much!!
I loved your animal care! ❤️
Yay I love how u adopted a hamster!😊😊😊😊😊
the way I set up the water bottle in the bin cage was by putting velcro on the box and in the water bottle so it would stick and unstick so I could refill it
this was posted a while ago but the bedding is not enough! they need 6-10 in. of bedding. i would recommend having even more than that just so the ham can have some more enrichment.
OMG THAT WHEEL MADE ME WANT TO SCREAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He reminds me of my past hamster he’s not alive anymore tho :(
I would also recommend letting him come out in his cage by himself because it can cause stress if u just pick him up like that and put him in his cage
And maybe you could add a little more bedding for him to burrow :)
But u did a great job with the cage :]
Your soooooo lucky your parents say yes for a hamster I always wanted a hamster☺😊
It’s so cute!!!
I love using keytee clean and cozy hamster bedding!! It fluffs out better not waste like carefresh because because how much you have to put in it. I tried my best explaining the differences.
Omg that is the most adorable hamster ever
Aww he’s so cute❤️🐹
It’s so good to finally see someone who doesn’t impulse buy
YES WE LOVE A person who dose Know stuff about about anmail and not just buy one and no noting about the hamster.
GREAT CAGE!! I just have one tip, mabie get a bigger sand bath so he can role in it. 🐹😊
Great job! Definitely need like 4 more inches of bedding. But he looks happy😊
I’m so happy you took the hamster home and saved it from living in a torture chamber. 👍🐹
Once I saw the bin cage, I automatically liked 😁
Never push him out of the box when you first get him let him come out naturally and the same bath is soooo small please upgrade it and add more bedding so he cam burrow x
Thank you for taking good care of her 💗 Hope every pet owner is lile u
Such a cute hammy, he’s a lucky boy! I would put the wheel on stilts so he doesn’t get stressed out when stuck underneath!
I always love your video
I love your vids sooo much I am glad I watched your vids or I would have a sad stressed hammy thank you so much!
Also i love your new hamster!
6 inches of bedding or more is best and we used Velcro for our water bottle in our ikea detolf cage for our Syrian! ❤️
You did so great on the cage and everything! Love this video! But one thing you need to do is add more bedding , hamsters burrow and sleep in burrows. But love the vid! And keep up the good work!❤️❤️❤️
Your hamster is so cute also I don't understand why people would dislike. I love your hamster.
i recommend getting mazuri rat and mouse blocks and some form of animal protein it adds protein
Hamsters like to burrow so id recomend putting at least 6 inch of bedding have fun with your new buddy! Edit: a water bowl is great from hamsters
i feel so bad for him i am soo happy u got him
You can use a water bowl for hamsters
hey! so i love that you know what your doing! for any extra info watch Victoria raechel on yt:) i do recommend using a dish for water instead of a bottle because it’s more natural for hamsters:) also setting up the cage before you get one so it cause them less time in the tiny carrier:) this goes to ANYONE reading this not just you lol
