We were really lucky with the weather, I've been to Scotland several times before and never had it so good. And yeah, what a stunning area to ride through. Thank you for watching and commenting...🚴🏻♂️
Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed it. We were so lucky with the weather, but as you'll see it doesn't last. Thanks for watching and commenting...🚴🏻♂️ All the best, David
Martin with the snoring insomnia makes the same mistake my missus did for years, I had the same issue with wind... now we both always bring some tiny earbuds so they don't bother you when you're asleep and a cheapo MP3 player with some audiobooks or podcasts and it's easier to focus on falling asleep like that
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had a great cast for this trip, it was relatively easy for me, I pointed the camera, pressed record and then put it together on my computer...🤣 Thanks again for watching and commenting...🚴🏻♂️
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your kind comment. If you get chance to do it, go for it, I'm sure you'll love it...🚴🏻♂️ Thanks for watching the video.
Ha ha, I'm often in the wrong gear...🤣 We were so lucky with the weather, although "spoiler alert", it doesn't last. Thanks for watching and commenting...👍🏻
Watch part 1, now this one part 2. Brilliant videos. 2015 we did the Coast2Coast plus toured Scotland and are surprised people talk about the midges. We never once encountered them the entire time. Guess we were lucky?? All the best from North Waikato, New Zealand.
Hi there in North Waikato, New Zealand. Thanks for your kind comment, I really appreciate it. You were very lucky not to encounter the dreaded midge. I've heard that if the wind speed is above 5mph they cannot fly, so maybe that was the reason...🤔 Thanks again for watching the videos and commenting. All the best...🚴🏻♂
Dave that was SUPERB as usual! We watched it while eating dinner, I’m getting fat, and you’re very fit!! We haven’t ridden since July, but you’re inspiring us to get back on it. Beautiful scenery Dave, what an amazing ride, you boys are fit! 💪💪🏁🏁 Looking forward to the next one ❤🙏🎉🎉🚴♀️🚴♀️
Excellent stuff guys, loving the scenery, video and commentary. Did the NC500 about 5 years ago. You should have stopped at the National Trust place before Ullapool at Corrieshalloch Gorge. Look forward to the next episode. As you said you were really lucky with the weather.
Thanks a lot. We did stop at Corrieshalloch Gorge but only to use the toilet. Will definitely visit there again. Thanks for watching and commenting...🚴🏻♂️
Brilliant work on the editing, I've only done a small amount myself, but you can really appreciate the work you put in, especially on that section from 15:10. Your videos have a lovely nostalgia about them. Atb.
That's very kind of you, thank you very much. Yeah, it takes quite a lot of work getting the edit just right. It's worth it though when I know people like yourself appreciate the end result. Thanks again for watching and commenting. All the best, Dave...🚴🏻♂️
Great video Dave, we stayed at Ullapool and then Clacthol back in April (no midge season) not doing the 500 tho just touring in the motorhome with bikes, clear sunny but cold with the odd snow shower. Chapeau to you and your comrades looking forward to the next episode. 👍
Thanks very much. I don't mind cold as long as it stays dry. I guess being cold prevented the midges, or they just hadn't hatched yet...🤔 There were a lot of camper vans when we were there, outnumbered bikes by 100 to 1. Thanks for watching the video and commenting. All the best, Dave...🚴🏻♂️
Ah! I’m excited to watch this one. I found your channel just when you’d posted the first Highlands video, so I’ve been waiting (im)patiently for this! 😅
Another great episode, well filmed and edited. I was cycling on the NC500 during September too and had some awful weather and some great weather. Unfortunately the worst day was when we were on the Bealach, one of our guys nearly got blown over the armco barriers. I’m very impressed on how you managed to cycle and film so well. Looking forward to the next episode.
That wind wouldn't have been great on the Bealach, I wouldn't have fancied that. For filming, I have a camera mounted on the handlebars which films forwards only. I carry a small Sony action camera in my jersey pocket which I can easily switch on with one hand, and when it is safe to do so, I film in different directions as I'm cycling. Thanks for watching and commenting...👍🏻
Well done, and so lucky with the weather. I remember the views as you cycle by. Plenty of climbs with longevity 😅. You found a good campsite at the end of day 3. And yes, traveling the route, or any route, on the bike, you are immersed in everything. The only thing I want to say is, there should be no schedule on a bike tour, it takes as long as it take 👍
Hi Mick, thanks very much for watching and commenting. You are right about not having a strict schedule. As I was the leader of the gang 🤣, I had to give the guys an idea of where we were heading each day, but I kept telling them that this was only loose and anything could impact it along the way. I must admit, I find it much easier to ride without a schedule when I'm cycling on my own, I just go where the bike takes me (within reason 🤣). Thanks again and happy, safe cycling to you. Dave
We did the NC 500 in our Campervan, probably at the same time as you. We also stopped at the Mountain Coffee House in Gairloch. The cakes were amazing. We were lucky to have great weather. We stopped at the Benn Eighe Visitor Centre and read that it rains 2 days out of 3 on average. We didn’t get any rain at all!
Sounds great...👍🏻 It's a very popular route for campervans and I can understand why, with such fantastic scenery and plenty of excellent facilities along the way. Thanks for watching the video and commenting...🚴🏻♂️
What a superb adventure , you came across some amazing places to stay and eat, I am planing a adventure to Scotland next year so you have given lots of ideas 😊
This brings back great memories from my own ride just after yours although I didn’t like that drag into Ullapool, quite a few fast moving lorries !, we got a great breakfast at Cult, a real gem. Wasn’t sure if you got as far as Lochinver in this episode but if you did, I hope you visited them pie shop !!. We stayed in three youth hostels, Gailoch, Ullapool and Inverness and they were all great. Looking forward to the next episode 👍
We were lucky on the Ullapool road, all the lorries were going the other way. We did go through Lochinver, but it was at the end of the day and we were desperate to get to the campsite at Clachtoll, so we didn't stop. Thanks for watching and commenting...🚴🏻♂️
Thanks very much. Yeah, I know what you mean, we were packed in like sardines in a tin...🤣 But to be honest, we were glad of a place to stay even though it was busy, we were all totally cream-crackered. Thanks for watching and commenting...👍🏻
Well ofcourse the weather, scenery, coffee stops wonderful, camping had some disappointmentsfor you so far, lots of lovely down hills I'll leave it at that, your all working hard welldone indeed, lovely video i am enjoying it all, now the main thing i need to know is where did you get you cycling shirt please ? Cheers 👏 old lad and what is your first name anyway 👋
It's a Danny Shane shirt and I bought it at Recycledkit in Llangollen for a tenner! When I looked it up online it retails for £100, so it was an absolute bargain, but it is second hand, although you couldn't tell. Thanks for watching and commenting, Dave
Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video...👍🏻 We did the NC500 from 3rd until 10th September this year. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers.
Fair point, but we were told by going clockwise around the western coastline, the best vistas would always be in front of you. Would be worth doing it again but anti-clockwise this time to get a different perspective. Thanks for watching the video and commenting...👍🏻
Ha ha, that's such a funny comment...🤣 I'll let you into a secret though, please don't tell anyone, I wear them to compress my varicose veins, not for fashion...🤣 Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great video and editing again Dave. Fantastic scenery and weather. Looking forward to no.3👍
Thanks a lot Paul, I'm glad you enjoyed it...👍🏻
We were lucky with the weather, but it's about to change in episode 3.
Cheers
it looks really beautiful up there, and such fantastic weather !

Thankyou guys that was a great video well put together.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate your kind comment.

Thanks for watching the video.
'That's Loch Maree... And this is me' gave me a laugh 😂 Another great vid with plenty of entertainment.
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching and commenting...👍🏻
I loved the "bollocks! I'm in the wrong gear!"😂😅😊 Beautiful looking weather for Jockland!
I think bagpipes would of been better than the Spanishy sounding guitar, though?
Ha ha, I'm often in the wrong gear...🤣
We were so lucky with the weather, although "spoiler alert", it doesn't last.
Thanks for watching and commenting...👍🏻
The hot weather made me think of Spain.
Good idea about the bagpipes though...👍🏻
@@albert2395Bagpipes sound better....my arse. They are Scotland's weapon of mass destruction.
@@albert2395Bagpipes sounding better?? They are Scotland's weapon of mass destruction.
That's up there with one of your best videos Dave. Cracking stuff. Well done mate. Look forward to the next part. Cheers, Paul 👍
Thanks a lot for your kind comment Paul, it's very much appreciated...👍🏻
All the best, Dave...🚴🏻♂️
An enjoyable trip to watch, and yes - the weather looked a treat. 'Undulating' - code for half uphill.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching and commenting...👍🏻
Nice, good they let you pitch all the tents too.
Yeah, the owner of the site said he always tried his best to accommodate cyclists needing a pitch.
Thanks for watching and commenting...🚴🏻♂️

It was the best bikepacking trip I've done so far.

Thanks a lot for watching and your great comment.
I'm working on episode 3 now, so hopefully not too long.
All the best to you both, Dave...🚴🏻♂️
So many beautiful views. Definitely got a couple of the villages on my ‘travel wish list’.
The scenery was amazing, stunning views around every corner.
Thanks for watching the video and commenting.

Most excellent!
Now I’ve forgotten the name of the place already… but the campsite deal at the in was su-purbe!!!
Looking forward to part 3!
Hi Josh, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah, the free camping at the hotel was excellent, as was the food and beer...👍🏻
All the best, Dave
That Bog Fly looked vicious. Great views, weather and banter.
Hi Randel, ha ha. I only noticed it whilst I was editing, it looked massive...😮
Thanks for watching and commenting.
All the best, Dave
A very enjoyable watch looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks very much.

Looks stunning 👍
It's such a beautiful area, especially so when the weather is good.
Thanks for watching and commenting...🚴🏻♂️
I always thought the NC500 was in cloudy, rainy, Scotland, hadn't realised it was in tenerife.
Ha ha 🤣
Yeah at times it did feel like we were in southern Europe.
Thanks for watching and commenting...👍🏻
Epic, thanks man
Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching the video and commenting...🚴🏻♂️

The 'big lump' behind you is called Slioch, unless you're referring to Tommo!
Ha ha, I like that...🤣
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Cracking video, when did you do the nc500?
Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video...👍🏻
We did the NC500 from 3rd until 10th September this year.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers.
When does episode 3 drop?
It's still in the "editing suite" but hopefully not too long now.
Thanks for watching and commenting...👍
Can't help but think you should have done it anti-clockwise; the east side is going to seem boring after the highlights of the west.
Fair point, but we were told by going clockwise around the western coastline, the best vistas would always be in front of you. Would be worth doing it again but anti-clockwise this time to get a different perspective.

Ha ha yeah...🤣
I'm always getting the wrong gear cos I'm an old muppet.
Thanks for watching the video and commenting.
in french........its pronounced.... "Long-gevi-tayyyyy"
Ha ha, very good...👍🏻

Need to tell Tomo there's no such thing as a "midgy spray", it's all a waste of money!
He did say that Smidge spray had shown some level of success, but I just prefer to cover up.
Thanks for watching and commenting...👍🏻
So tempted to stop watching once I'd seen the length of your socks but the video is just too good.
