    Frigate labor of love. Deserves to be in a museum defended like _Fort Knox_ . Beautiful. Two of my favorite ships, together. The scene, the movie, the music...the personal memories of the movie. Just fantastic.

    Sorry guys I couldn't remember the manufacture on the 1 /144 scale falcon. It's a Fine Molds model. The Bandai ship is pretty much the same model easy to find

    • @philippealain-art
      @philippealain-art Рік тому +1

      Yes, it's the Fine Molds 1/144 scale because it's the only accurate plastic model of the Falcon of the Empire version (1/72 and 1/144). The accurate model that Bandai has released is the version of "A New Hope" but it's at 1/72 scale. Bandai has published several versions of the Falcon at 1/144 scale but they are the versions from the atrocious postlogy. In this postlogy, as they copied the story from episode 4 they also stupidly took the version of the Falcon from episode 4 and added the 5 landing gears, put a rectangular radar (before going back to the circular radar for episode 9) and changed several small elements of the top of the cockpit, the front part of the side walls and the docking rings. The majority of the greeblies are the same as A New Hope version. Bandai also released a version of ESB Falcon in 1/350 scale but it is not at all accurate. Bandai has taken the ANH version and added 5 landing gears to it.
      This building of the medical frigate is absolutely superb, huge and extremely detailed and looks really accurate. What an absolutely insane job!

    • @philippealain-art
      @philippealain-art Рік тому

      @AXION80, it means that only Fine Molds proposed an accurate version of the Empire's (and Return of the Jedi) Millennium Falcon at 1/72 and 1/144 scale. It's not a 100% accurate version but so close and detailed that it can be considered accurate. There is no model that is 100% accurate, it is hardly possible or maybe impossible and you chose the word "valid" very well.
      I speak only of the traditional models to build sold in a single kit, because there is also the version Deagostini / Altaya, sold by monthly subscription at 1/43 scale (Huge). The accurate version from Bandai is from A New Hope version at 1/72 scale. And as the Fine Molds version, it is not 100% accurate but close.
      So if you want a "valid" 1/144 scale Falcon of the original trilogy, there is only the Fine Molds "Empire" version (which has been acquired and re-boxed by Revell). If you want a "New Hope" 1/144 version, you'll have to modify a version of the awful episodes 7, 8 or 9, but as they are on a rather small scale, it's not going to be easy and you'll have to wait until you can buy them second hand, at a low price. It's not impossible, I've done it, but there's a lot of speculation about the Bandai models.

    • @philippealain-art
      @philippealain-art Рік тому

      @AXION80, I also ask myself the same question. I think that, at least for the 1/144 version, it must be a 3D model which was used to make the molds for plastic injection, and maybe the 1/72 version has been scanned. I confirm that the 1/144 version is excellent, and obviously easier and faster to assemble than the 1/72. It is not really rare but there is also a speculation on the selling prices of Fine Molds models or Fine Molds versions sold under the Revell brand in the second hand market. You have to wait to find a model sold at a reasonable price.

    • @philippealain-art
      @philippealain-art Рік тому

      @AXION80, Okay, I understand better. Don't think that all the shooting models were detailed, they were only detailed when it was necessary and it was visible on screen. Special effects are expensive. When they were filmed from a distance, or when they moved very quickly, they were not detailed at all. You'd be surprised to see that on some of the filming models (for some movies) there were parts that were just drawn lines and most of the details were crudely glued on and looked like papercraft (sometimes it really was) when you see them today up close. I think that the small model of the Falcon used in the movies must not have had all the details that the big model had.
      But whatever the importance of the details of the small model, even if I understand that it is more a ludic desire than an obsession, I don't think (I may be wrong) that it is worth the effort to reproduce this small model exactly as it was made. I think this model must be disappointing and that it is more interesting to have a scanned version of the 1/72 version at 1/144 scale because you can appreciate all the details with a model that takes less space. But what would be interesting is to know how this little model was made and what it looks like up close.
      And since I have the opportunity, I wanted to share something with you. The life-size Vader helmet sold by Hasbro (Black Series) and widely promoted on the net by people who are either blinded or retributed by the brand, is a disaster and at the limit of the scam. There is nothing right with this poorly built and overpriced toy for its poor quality. When compared with an accurate helmet, the errors are obvious.
      There is no correct form and no correct proportion. The mask is too wide, the eyes are not the right shape and size, the cheeks are too droopy, the face grill is not the good shape (too large and not long enough vertically), the bottom grid is too small and not the right shape, the dome is not the right shape and proportions, in particular the top of the dome especially when viewed from the side, the dome brow is much too narrow at the top which gives it an inverted v shape... and this is probably only the most visible. The worst part is that all the videos and most of the comments claim that this helmet is accurate. This is a misinformation campaign.

    Spent the whole video looking at all the greebles, having fun figuring out their purpose. Saw 3 that I think are beyond a doubt are guns (9:22 10:59 and 11:30 ), another two that are pretty likely but could be interpreted as some type of rigging (10:49 and 11:16), and countless other barrel shaped pieces and holes. I'm sure you could say this ship has millions of cannons if you interpret every greeble, curve, and protrusion as a weapon. A very fun ship to look at, don't remember that backstory about it being built in a day. That makes it even cooler - inspiring even.

You said practical effects are going out, but I think people who are interested in making their own movies and don't have a hollywood budget would heavily use practical effects and I think most of those who are old school would appreciate letting fans and those who are interested would still benefit greatly from using this medium.

    Amazing build, but to clarify, Charlie Bailey said the SECOND one was built in 24 hours by ILM, meaning the larger scale middle section of the ship (from the med bay window to the first part of the skinny section, with the 32" Falcon attached) that was needed for the reshoots, NOT the smaller scale (but still HUGE) full model of the entire ship, which likely took days if not weeks. I believe the host of the video has misheard and confused the issue by claiming the original full ship model was built in 24 hours.

    It's an amazingly-detailed model, but I don't like it as a space ship. The access-tube connection to the Millennium Falcon must be super-tough, because it has to "push" that space ship when the frigate accelerates and turns. There needed to be extra clamps to hold it to the main frigate.
    The long neck makes me think of the ship in _2001: A Space Odyssey_ and its sequel. I heard Kubrick had the models destroyed, and the studios destroyed (closed) their FX labs after this movie, too. Both are a crime against film art.
    The long neck also makes me think of tie-bombers targeting it to cut the ship in two, which would cause the engine component to continue accelerating and slam in to the now detached forward part. Seems more vulnerable than the shield pods the rebels were targeting on the Super-Star Destroyer.

      Wow you must fun at parties. People need an escape from work life, they need hobbies. Star Wars gives people a chance to reconnect with joy they remember from their childhood. If you can't enjoy someone's dedication to something maybe you shouldn't comment. Maybe we should just destroy everything so people are never inspired to create. What a tool
