Glock 20 in 10mm

  • I found a screaming deal on a Glock 20 in 10mm so I decided to add it to the arsenal. It had a Jpoint red dot sight on it, came with two mags and included an extended ported lone wolf 10mm barrel and a lone wolf .40 conversion barrel.
10mm is expensive so I bought the dies, a Lee bulge buster, a mold and the materials to powdercoat my own lead bullets. Now I can shoot my own reloads for $4 a box vs. $40.
One advantage of the Glock 20 over the other 10mms (Bren Ten, Colt Delta Elite, Smith 1076, Ruger Sr1911) is that the polymer frame helps soak up some of the recoil. Combined with the extended ported barrel it's a very controllable pistol to shoot 10mm out of.
The 10mm falls somewhere in between .357 Magnum and .41 Magnum for power. But it allows you to get 16 shots in a very easy to carry gun. It sees quite a bit of use as a defensive round against Black and Brown bears. Some would argue that a Grizzly is not going to be stopped by 10mm but it is carried by the Sirius Dog Sled Patrol in Greenland as a backup gun to defend against polar bears which can be larger than a grizzly.

I just bought a Glock 20 so thank you for reaffirming the wisdom of my purchase.
The 10mm is such a versatile round it’s surprising that it’s not more popular. It’s available in loads from 135-220 grains and 420-780 fpe.
And for the cost of a new barrel I can shoot the more common (and cheaper) 40S&W. Or the hotter 9X25 Dillon, and have the ballistics of the FK Brno 7.5mm pistol without the ridiculous price.
Yep, I’m quite happy with my new Glock.

I think the biggest issue with 10mm is the ammo cost and availability. Most shops don't stock it and those that do only carry expensive brands or mark up the cheap stuff because they know you don't have many options. FWIW the Sig ammo should be around $20-$25 a box and is good stuff. Hopefully the new Ruger offering keeps expanding the market and gets more ammo companies competing

Gun&ShotTV Check out Georgia Arms for great prices on ammo. They sell their ammo in 50 round increments. Good luck.

For an automatic pistol 10mm is boss! And you carry 15+1.

You definitely get more firepower with the Glock 20 than the 1911 single stacks

I carry a Glock 20SF GEN3 on duty. I added the TruGlo Tritium sights and Talon grip tape. Great carry gun. I carry Underwood 165gr BJHP as duty ammo. When I was with our S.O. I carried a Colt Delta Elite SS. Love that Colt and still have it as it was a birthday gift in 1987, but have to admit the Glock 20 is a better duty weapon for me. I still have about 300 rds of the original Norma 170gr JHP that I used to carry in the Delta Elite from 1987-1998.

Great video, I really enjoyed it. I've had my Glock 20 for about a month now. I've been shooting Underwood fmj ammo exclusively. It's really powerful and at 31.00 a box of 50 it is competitively priced. Although I do handload I don't shoot enough 10mm to justify the set up. Now I'm going to subscribe to your channel.

Sig Sauer makes good and relatively low price 10mm not as hot as Underwood but still hotter than many other brands

Look at all that smoke. Thats why I don't mind paying a little more money to get ammo from a manufacturer.

      $40 vs $4 your choice

    • @spencer848
      @spencer848 6 років тому +3

You can do your research, and choose a powder with less smoke to reload. It may not have the best velocity, but it'd do for target practice loads. That's what reloading is for though. You can experiment. It's not all about cost saving all the time. I'd always use factory ammo for hunting or defense. Reloading just makes it cheaper to shoot all the time for me.

the 10mm doesn't exceed the .357 magnum round but it is certainly right on par with it and with its main advantage of having 15 in the mag and 1 in the pipe is nice and not many 10mm pistols out there so if you can find one makes a great edition to any gun collection i have the Glock 20sf gen 3 myself

Not trying to be an armchair warrior, but a 10mm carries the same energy at 100yds as a 357 +P does at the muzzle.

This is a very good video, informative and objetive. But I have a question, I'm planning to buy a 10mm this year. I don't hunt, I don't go hiking and I won't use it for WCC, I just want a 10mm to go to the shooting range and have fun. My question is: in your opinion which of this 2 guns are the best option for 10mm, Glock 20 3Gen or Ruger SR-1911 in 10mm?
As you said 10mm is a powerful cartridge and the glock 20 Gen3 has the frame more robust than the gen4. And the bull barrel of the Ruger is more robust than others 1911.
