@@maplecollector4398 awesome looking forward to it. Please do an update on your Esk Sunset Maple. I’m also going to post on my channel I hope you’ll subscribe and watch.
These are great haven’t come across these in the uk yet but will look out for them as would stand out in my collection thank for you for vid on these 😊
When they are in fabric pots, most maples are moved up a size every 2 years. The exception is slow growing varieties. They may spend 3 to 4 years in a pot. Once in display pots, they will be moved up depending on their growth or how large I want them to get. I typically don't keep them in a pot for more than 3 years without root pruning or moving them up to a larger pot.
I think I'm liking the May Day! Mikawa is a star and the offspring are great too. The potted JM's are just starting to pop here in the midwest and inground will be right behind lol Thanks!
Your maples look amazing. I’m also in California but haven’t been able to find the “pine bark soil conditioner” that’s recommended by many. What do you use for a potting mix and then what do you use as a mulch?
Home Depot carries Kellogg's Organic Garden Soil. It has excellent drainage and is perfect for potted Japanese maples. Mulch isn't necessary but you can top with a thin layer of bark nuggets to keep the weeds down.
@@maplecollector4398 This is already what I use for the containers in my garden. Bless you and good strength to us growing maples in Cali... I hope mine will be as healthy as yours!
In your opinion, if both trees were the same age and size, do you prefer Mystic Mikawa or Japanese Princess in terms of color, shape and form? Also, is there much difference in the fall colors?
It's not the best time of year for an update video on these particular trees but I would be happy to answer any questions you have about them. As far as 'Koi' goes, it hasn't really developed into anything special, yet, imo.
Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have any of those cultivars. 'Mikawa nishiki' has the name but it actually has a very different form. I do have a variegated seedling of 'Mikawa yatsubusa' that I'm observing that is similar to 'Yuki yama' . I will do a video with it next spring. 'Tattoo' is just a smaller version of 'Mikawa yatsubusa' so never added it to my collection.
@@maplecollector4398 Thanks for the response. I ended up buying 'Mystic Mikawa' and 'Mayday' based off of this video. I passed on 'Tatoo' based on this answer. I hope you get some time to post more. I really liked it.
Which cultivars are they? What soil mixture are you using? What size pots are you using? What type of pots? What zone/location are you in? I need more information in order to diagnose your problem.
@@maplecollector4398 I'm loving in martinsville Virginia, I'm using miracle gro soil, this year I feed them with expert gardener food., and the pots are wide feet and tall 1 feet ., every year's it is happening, just it looks pretty 2 months then it get dry all year.
Thanks, just bought a Mystic from Mister Maples today. I'll have to look to try to buy one of the princess trees next.
We need an update!
I miss your posts! I hope you’ll upload more videos if your beautiful maples again soon! 😊
New videos are coming soon!

Really digging these comparison videos! I missed out on the Mystic Mikawa release on Mr. Maple a few days ago...
Yep, sold-out not day!

Thanks for the review! Really like the Japanese Mikawa.
Q.) how do you know when to replant to a bigger pot?

@@maplecollector4398 just to be clear you’re actually using Kellog’s “ALL NATURAL GARDEN SOIL” in your pots and not their “PATIO PLUS” soil, correct?
@DaMeatTree , yes that's correct. I've experimented with "Patio Plus" and didn't like it.
What month did you film this? My mystic is coming in pink and cream. Still has time to orange up before summer, but it’s very light colored.
In your opinion, if both trees were the same age and size, do you prefer Mystic Mikawa or Japanese Princess in terms of color, shape and form? Also, is there much difference in the fall colors?
I prefer Mystic Mikawa because of the smaller leaves. The fall color is nice on both

This is a great video! Can you do one like this with Tattoo, Yuki Yama and Mikawa Nishiki? They are also similar to Mikawa Yatsubusa.

Hello ., I have 8 arce palmatum in containers they take the sun from early morning till 1:00 PM but the leaves are drying., do you know why?

It sounds to me like the pots may be too large and the soil too rich in nitrogen. I would need to see a picture of them to know for sure.
@@maplecollector4398 how I can send you picture?
@@maplecollector4398 if the soil is wet ., can I water it or I have to wait till it gets dry?
