The midnight special was a train that went by Angola prison farm in Louisiana. If the trains light shone onto your face, it meant you would be released soon. Originally written by Leadbelly.

I also the song was from the Central Unit in Sugarland Texas. Which was likely on the same train tracks.

Love John Fogarty's music since I was a young'un, and now at 68 years old. He's the only musician I know that can rock a plaid flannel shirt, and he's been doing it his entire career.

Leadbelly hudie Ledbetter wrote this out of bitter experience. Johnny Rivers covered this too. John Fogarty has his own way and sure nailed this. Used to listen to him in the pen back in 1971-72 and his Susie Q...cover too.

This is an old classic, covered by many including Fogerty here. If you watch the old movie "Cool Hand Luke" about a prison work camp with Paul Newman, one of the prisoners plays and sings this on his guitar, and the meaning really comes through.

The song started out as a shuffle but when the drums came in, it had a straight rock'n'roll back beat. The transition was seamless.

@@gasser217 Last night was the concert. OMG. Last time I had this kind of experience was SRV with Jeff Healey. Concert opened with Hearty Har (rock group led by John's sons). George Thorogood sang about a dozen hits. He ended his set with Bad To The Bone. He wasn't his best performance of that song, but it was great to see him
John took the stage and his sons played with him. One of his sons looks just like him when he was 20 (even same sort of hair style). Was surreal seeing father and son playing next to each other and looking so much alike.
John gave one hell of a show. He is so happy to have his songs back and played all the CCR tunes like it was the first time. Fresh and full of joy. He told a story of one of his guitars that he had with him. He had written alot of songs on it and even played it at Woodstock. He had given it away and after 40 years, his wife found it and got it back for him.
Very special concert. If you at all can attend this tour, you will love it.

Not just a song but one of the best late night music shows before MTV. Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, Midnight Special, Soundstage, American Bandstand, Soul Train, Austin City Limits (seen here) and of course Solid Gold to name a few, I'm sure others have their favorites.

Song was written by the Great Leadbelly He was in a prison in Texas and a train went by the prison at Midnight every night with it's light shining in the windows. Check out Leadbelly he was first recorded at The Farm( La prison) by a man going around recording people. And later became a recording and performing star.

Everyone who is anyone has done this song. The original is much longer. There was even a TV show named after it. It was written in 1934 by Huddie William Ledbetter better known as Lead Belly.

Did they release Leadbelly from prison early because of his contribution to music? I heard something to that effect years ago but never got around to looking into it. It slipped my mind till just now.
