  • Check out this drop to catch SoCal Swordfish! This fish got tangled in the buoy rod, tried to wrap itself in the motor, but still ended up on deck! Flat calm seas, an epic jump, heart pounding fighting, and last ditch gaff shot are all caught on video!

    That's pretty freakin' amazing, SOLO. Gotta say it... props to you man. Most people don't get how hard what you just did, is to do. To those of us in the know, who put the time in on the water, congratulations! I'm not a "woo-hoo" kind of guy, but I've been doing this a long time, never even had a bait picked up, let alone even hook one... Enjoy it man-- soak it in. That's gotta be a truly incredible feeling. Can't say I'd know, LOL!!!

    Big ATTA-BOY! to you!!! Lifetime accomplishment for sure! Besides my buddy catching one in the early 80's off Mission Beach in San Diego, You are only the 2nd person in SoCal that I know of that has caught a sword. Like to know how much your fish weighed ?, not that it matters, I just don't know the size of these buggers. My buddy's was #216. He saw it sunning itself, casted a live Mackerel and it rolled on it, game on for 7 hours. He was in a 17' Valco with a 25HP motor. Crazy story, but ended well. I Subbed and Liked this video and will be watching all your vides. Well done and solid work. Awesome.

      @realworldangling  Рік тому

      Hey Kenny, firs off thanks for the support. Second, I didnt weigh my fish but I dont think it was over 200. The first one i ever hooked was a surface fish as well and up until 3-4 years ago that was really the only way anyone thought you could catch one out here. Deep drop is gaining traction so well see how it affects the fishery long term.

    Great catch solo. Way to stay calm when it was all going pear shaped with tangles etc. Have you thought about having the bouy on an electric reel so you can retrieve the bouy by pushing a button while hand cranking the other rod?

    • @realworldangling
      @realworldangling  Рік тому

      Staying calm is important when fishing solo, one mistake can be very costly. I do
      Own electric reels and have thought about it…most days it wouldn’t be an issue but as you can see the ocean was flat with very little drift. I should have put the boat in gear and put the reel in freespool to get the buoy far away
