  • Aaron has a change of plans and swaps the deep drop for a sword fight! Even though the currents were ripping he still manages to bring one to the boat by himself.

    Glad he didnt get you with that bill! we went swordfishing yesterday and 5 minutes into the first drop we got a nice bite, completly slacked off before we could even set the hook . he shook lose and left us with a big looped up tangle. fished 8 more hours without a bite. Its always something with the swords lol!

      @@KeyWestWaterman thats right. i notice you have an interesting technique on driving that hook. ive been trying alot of different things recently because ive been having bad luck with just loading the rod over and setting it with heavy drag.. dozens of hooks pulled the last few months and i just cant seem to find the right tech. agreed when u said its the most controversial part lol

    • @KeyWestWaterman
      @KeyWestWaterman  4 роки тому +2

      BroadBill Hunter yea I’ve lost my share of fish trust me. I haven’t been told by so many veterans set the hook early and hard. If it’s gonna pull might as well pull early. It’s hurts a lot worse when you see the fish!

  • @bigbull160
    @bigbull160 2 роки тому +1

    By driving forward aren’t you going taking scope out of the line and allowing the bait to fall or feed the bait to the swordfish? If you’re stemming the current then you would want to go in reverse to get slack out of line and set the hook while your drag is locked down. I don’t know if you were stemming the current or which way your boat was facing when you drove the hook. Nice fish dude!

    • @KeyWestWaterman
      @KeyWestWaterman  2 роки тому +1

      all depends on which way you're fishing, how strong of current, and which way the fish is swimming once it eats. sword fishing in my opinion is 50% speculation and 100% luck.

    Do they not buy swordfish from you? I would think that would be a hell of a payday. Depending on the size you can get 5k or more. One cool thing about Catalina the one restaurant in two harbors where I lived and worked would buy fish from you from time to time
    In California it’s pretty cool the swordfish come up to the surface to basically sunbathe and warm up. They can warm the soft tissue in their head so they can go back down deep and hunt in that 56 degree water
    So u can literally drive up to them and harpoon them when they are sun ☀️ bathing lol pretty crazy
