If you are watching Tim Cain's YT channel, he has told the story that they have literally had a blank page left while working on the manual and this is when one of the artists I believe (I do not remember the name unfortunately) has said something to the effect of "wait, I will take this home and try to come up with something" and then delivered the in-world add page for G.E.C.K. They were not even thinking about the sequel at this point, but when they have started thinking and working on the sequel, thanks to this, they have already had their plot device.

Your Fallout 1 playthrough was really enjoyable, curious how things were improved in the sequel.
Looking forward to this - fallout 2 and new Vegas are generally regarded as the best in the series! Once you play this, it may paint fallout 3 in a different view on a replay - i enjoy it a lot but very different from the original era! 1 - 2 - new Vegas back to back has a lot of connective tissue. Hopefully the resurgence of CRPGs gives us a classic fallout remake!
I don't really see Microsoft funding a Fallout Crpg but I sure would love to be proven wrong. It would be a fantastic setting for a high quality high presentation crpg ala BG3. I bet that would sell quite well within the context of the genre as long as it has the accessibility and design quality necessary and allow for a lot of interesting quests, combat, story, choice-based outcomes.
considering Microsoft specifically wrote off BG3 for day one game pass because they thought it was a “second-run Stadia PC RPG” I don’t have high hopes, but hopefully they change their tune after seeing how that thought process aged like milk
Pretty hyped for this one. I've been enjoying your playthroughs of my favorite games (like Mass Effect, Disco Elysium and Fallout 1), but this is the first time I get to watch a current LP.
Won't say what it was, since you've now reintroduced a blind element to the playthrough with its inclusion, but I find the very big lore mistake you made right off the bat quite surprising.
Race selection and the Kaga story are from the Restoration Patch which is why they're so derpy. Also the geckoes in the hunting grounds should've attacked, I wonder if the RP screwed up something there. You took Gifted the last time as well, it's pretty much the best trait. Good you went for unarmed rather than melee. It's a bit more interesting in terms of gameplay and also allows you to participate in certain quests and activities that specifically require unarmed combat.
If you’d like some more specific ideas, a lot of which you discover yourself which was also cool to watch, here’s what made the beginning so painful (most of which you had no way of knowing, to be fair!): Low-average INT and PER will lock you out of a lot of opportunities. You saw that yourself in Reno, but it also hurt you as early as leaving Arroyo, where you missed a free weapon upgrade. Low-Average PER also wrecks your sequence (initiative), which is why so many enemies got extra turns. Heavy-Handed and low luck locked you out of taking advantage of critical hits, which is the best way of dealing damage in the game, especially for unarmed (a critical punch to the head can take an enemy out of the fight even at low levels). Also, and this is uninformed on my part, but I think your constant getting crits to the face was related to your low luck as well. Strength is the easiest stat in the game to raise, because power armor is +3 or 4 depending on the set, so every point above 6 is wasted (some would argue even 6 is a wasted point). If you had, say, swapped those extra 4 points of STR into INT, PER, and LCK, and taken basically anything other than bruiser and skilled - those are objectively bad choices, steep costs for little benefit - over heavy handed, you would have saved a lot of agony! But I respect you for keeping up the grind.

I would just like to see the same game but with an updated interface, graphics, animations and controls and maybe some tutorials cause it's hard to figure out for people who are used to modern games. Finally caught somebody starting a playthrough of Fallout 2, the greatest RPG ever created, and you're playing with the restoration project, which turns a game that was already brilliant into a bigger and meaner monster. Immediate subscribe. The race in the character creation menu is part of the RP, it wasn't part of the vanilla Fallout 2. Gifted just sounds scary but it is in fact the best optional trait in the game, the cons quickly become irrelevant as you play on. Hope you enjoy it.
Fallout 2 is my favorite in the series! I obviously won't spoil anything here, but I can't wait to see how thorough you'll be and which choices you'll make. This game is basically Fallout 1 on steroids, there is more of everything that made the first game so iconic... You'll love it, for sure!

Ah, yes, Fallout 2. Has to be the best Fallout game in my opinion. It's really hard to get into due to its high difficulty when compared to Fallout 1, but hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I did
For a blind player you accidentally made a pretty great character. The only two things where you made a mistake was bumping STR as high as you did and choosing heavy handed. STR is pretty useless above 5 even for a melee build and you actually have plenty of chances to up it really high in the game. And eventually you will have a permanent + 4 to STR that you can't miss because it's tied to the main quest. The thing with heavy handed is that it's a trap trait, unlike the first game Unarmed skill in the second one is BRUTAL, and the most important thing is aiming the hits especially in the eyes and head because that increases a critical hit chance by a lot and the damage isn't as important, the fact that your critical unarmed eye hits can blind enemies or head hits can straight knock them unconscious is devastating. Also Gifted trait is literally broken, the offset of skillpoints is so unimportant because most things in the game aren't checking your skills but your stats. Gaining +1 to all stats is HUGE, honestly picking gifted can almost be considered as cheating. In contrast Skilled trait is THE WORST trait in the game bar none. Gaining a few skill points more but losing perks is a horrible tradeoff and those skill points can be easily gained by picking few a perks that are straight up increasing you skills by a fixed amount, not that it's a good idea but that's how much of a bad trait Skilled is. One piece of advice also, because you are going unarmed, you will probably think that using knuckles or spiked knuckles is good, which isn't. DO NOT USE THEM, with high unarmed skill your punches are actually better without weapons, the only weapon for unarmed character that is good is power fist that you can only get much later in the game. Sadly that's something that isn;t written anywhere in the game but uping you unarmed skill you gain new type of punches and kicks and they have specific modifiers what they are doing. Equipping an unarmed-type weapon (such as brass knuckles for example) will override these skill attacks. This means that with high enough Unarmed skill one will actually lose damage by equipping them. For example, base melee attack ("Punch") deals 1-2 damage. With Unarmed of 55%, that becomes "Strong Punch" which adds 3 damage, for a total of 4-5. Meanwhile, brass knuckles have a damage range of only 2-5 - so one is better off without them. To summarize, spiked knuckles become obsolete when the "Hammer Punch" is obtained and brass knuckles are useless altogether. I recommend finding a online list of unarmed attacks that you can gain and what they actually do because it will be much easier to understand why you have several different kicks and punches because all of them have specific purpose that isn't listed anywhere in the game. Also putting skills in other than your tagged one is bad, there's plenty of books that will rise your other skills up to 90% without putting anything in them, and having subpar % and spending skillpoints on expensive skills isn't useful. Your primary goals should be getting unarmed to at least 150% and speech to 100% because you gain a bonus per skill point in them. After that you can spend however you want, probably bumping lock pick and repair. Science is awesome, you need to use the skill on computer terminals but because you didn't tag it, you can ignore it for the most part. First aid is lackluster because doctor is the same skill only better, but you already chose it and it's moderately useful in the beginning of the game so tagging it isn't a complete waste, like traps, throwing, barter and gambling for example.
COMBAT SPEED TIP: in the menu under Preferences, turn the slider for Combat Speed (on upper right) up to max. It makes NPCs walk faster during combat. Fights will be smoother and especially in larger battles with many NPCs it will make a notable difference.
Does heavy handed impact all crits? As in gun based stuff too? Seems a little bad if you wanna use ranged at all Edit: Nvm, bad luck anyway so fk it ig
I was waiting for this playthrough, this one is my favorite fallout game of all the franchise, and playing the restoration mod that gives back the cut content is the best way to play it because they removed some of my favorite parts. New Vegas wished it was like this game and you can tell it was inspired by it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do
love seeing you play this amazing game, is there any chance for a baldur's gate 3 playthrough, or is that too long of a game or not up your alley? it would probably rival your elden ring episode count, maybe a bit less but it's insanely good. would at least recommend playing it on your own if you don't want the stress when you have the time.
Hell yeah I've been waiting for this! Honestly, I always preferred F2 to the original. The original has a charm to it that nothing else can match, but I think F2 is a flat improvement in almost every regard.
Myself i like to go Gifted-Bloody Mess, bc of the +1 in SPECIAL is so good and the -10 percent skills is easily manageable im the first levels if you know what type of character u want. And Bloody Mess bc i like to see the worst way to die and F2 has some funny ones haha c:

I never think low INT is a good first playthrough, it's a fun replay though but locks you out of a lot you can experience from the low INT I've seen in other games.

@@Mapocolops while I totally agree with you, when it comes to the early fallout titles, it could be argued that having normal INT locks you out of the low INT options. When I say it changes the dialogue, I don’t just mean it takes away some options. It changes *a lot.*
@@randomcookieboy It also does just lock you out of the vast majority of quests in Fallout 1 and 2 though. Most NPCs will just refuse to talk with you because they think you're too dumb. You miss way more content than you gain by doing it.
Sooo excited for this playthrough, this is gonna be so fun! As much as Bethesda borrowed from these games for Fallout 3, Obsidian did a much better job with New Vegas. New Vegas is essentially the closest thing we have to a true Fallout 3. It’s also 100% a love letter to Fallout 2 in particular. So if you love New Vegas you’ll have an absolute blast with this one! An unarmed build is also a really interesting choice 😂
I can never get into F1 or F2. If they remade them but in the F3 or newer engine, I'd love to play them though. Could never wrap my head around turn based sort of games. That said, I do enjoy F2s stories. From watching other playthroughs.
Yeahhhh I have to be honest I think Fallout 2 has a LOT of weird cheesy / semi-racist... "Tribal"... tropes in it which really take me out of the game, and really make me enjoy Fallout 1 more. The game start with you going through Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and then the first companion you meet talks like he's Jamaican for...some reason. You know! Because he's black and has tattoos!! Lol It's just all weird and cheesy af.
Sorry if you're already doing this (I can't tell), but just in case I'd highly recommend playing with the 2x Scaling setting enabled, as the camera can be ridiculously zoomed out on higher resolutions, making things hard to see and showing empty areas you aren't meant to. Once I found out about that setting, I never went back. Also I enjoyed the Restoration Patch from what I played. Afaik, it only restores unfinished/cut content and doesn't change much in the final game, on top of (very necessary) bugfixes. I liked what little of the restored quests I've played. Also the "Race" option was added by the Restoration Patch I'm pretty sure; I played a redhead lady on the first playthrough in which I beat the game.
Yeah ideally you wanna play these games at 1920x1080p resolution with 2x scaling enabled. That way you get the FOV you would have with a resolution of 960x540p, which is the closest 16:9 widescreen resolution to the game's original 800x600p 4:3 resolution. Doing that basically gives you widescreen + (roughly) the correct zoom level.

I recommend finding a online list of unarmed attacks that you can gain and what they actually do because it will be much easier to understand why you have several different kicks and punches because all of them have specific purpose that isn't listed anywhere in the game.
Also putting skills in other than your tagged one is bad, there's plenty of books that will rise your other skills up to 90% without putting anything in them, and having subpar % and spending skillpoints on expensive skills isn't useful. Your primary goals should be getting unarmed to at least 150% and speech to 100% because you gain a bonus per skill point in them. After that you can spend however you want, probably bumping lock pick and repair. Science is awesome, you need to use the skill on computer terminals but because you didn't tag it, you can ignore it for the most part. First aid is lackluster because doctor is the same skill only better, but you already chose it and it's moderately useful in the beginning of the game so tagging it isn't a complete waste, like traps, throwing, barter and gambling for example.
COMBAT SPEED TIP: in the menu under Preferences, turn the slider for Combat Speed (on upper right) up to max. It makes NPCs walk faster during combat. Fights will be smoother and especially in larger battles with many NPCs it will make a notable difference.
I dont remember if you said so in your Fallout 1 playthrough but do you plan on playing through the rest of the fallout games as well?

I was waiting for this playthrough, this one is my favorite fallout game of all the franchise, and playing the restoration mod that gives back the cut content is the best way to play it because they removed some of my favorite parts. New Vegas wished it was like this game and you can tell it was inspired by it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do

love seeing you play this amazing game, is there any chance for a baldur's gate 3 playthrough, or is that too long of a game or not up your alley? it would probably rival your elden ring episode count, maybe a bit less but it's insanely good. would at least recommend playing it on your own if you don't want the stress when you have the time.
Pretty sure he plans on playing through the Baldur's Gate games. So it would be a while before 3.

Hell yeah I've been waiting for this! Honestly, I always preferred F2 to the original. The original has a charm to it that nothing else can match, but I think F2 is a flat improvement in almost every regard.

Aw man, I was really hoping for the abysmally low intelligence playthrough. It changes virtually all of the game’s dialogue, it’s like a totally different experience
I never think low INT is a good first playthrough, it's a fun replay though but locks you out of a lot you can experience from the low INT I've seen in other games.

@@Mapocolops while I totally agree with you, when it comes to the early fallout titles, it could be argued that having normal INT locks you out of the low INT options. When I say it changes the dialogue, I don’t just mean it takes away some options. It changes *a lot.*
@@randomcookieboy It also does just lock you out of the vast majority of quests in Fallout 1 and 2 though. Most NPCs will just refuse to talk with you because they think you're too dumb. You miss way more content than you gain by doing it.

As much as Bethesda borrowed from these games for Fallout 3, Obsidian did a much better job with New Vegas. New Vegas is essentially the closest thing we have to a true Fallout 3. It’s also 100% a love letter to Fallout 2 in particular. So if you love New Vegas you’ll have an absolute blast with this one! An unarmed build is also a really interesting choice 😂

I can never get into F1 or F2. If they remade them but in the F3 or newer engine, I'd love to play them though. Could never wrap my head around turn based sort of games. That said, I do enjoy F2s stories. From watching other playthroughs.

Yeahhhh I have to be honest I think Fallout 2 has a LOT of weird cheesy / semi-racist... "Tribal"... tropes in it which really take me out of the game, and really make me enjoy Fallout 1 more. The game start with you going through Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and then the first companion you meet talks like he's Jamaican for...some reason. You know! Because he's black and has tattoos!! Lol It's just all weird and cheesy af.

Sorry if you're already doing this (I can't tell), but just in case I'd highly recommend playing with the 2x Scaling setting enabled, as the camera can be ridiculously zoomed out on higher resolutions, making things hard to see and showing empty areas you aren't meant to. Once I found out about that setting, I never went back.
Also I enjoyed the Restoration Patch from what I played. Afaik, it only restores unfinished/cut content and doesn't change much in the final game, on top of (very necessary) bugfixes. I liked what little of the restored quests I've played. Also the "Race" option was added by the Restoration Patch I'm pretty sure; I played a redhead lady on the first playthrough in which I beat the game.
Yeah ideally you wanna play these games at 1920x1080p resolution with 2x scaling enabled. That way you get the FOV you would have with a resolution of 960x540p, which is the closest 16:9 widescreen resolution to the game's original 800x600p 4:3 resolution. Doing that basically gives you widescreen + (roughly) the correct zoom level.
