@@OK-zo3cq Now I hate French modern gun companies!😡💔
@@OK-zo3cq actually, no, let the French cook. The first, more hideous mock-up is the most well known version of the PAPOP, but everyone knew that shit wouldn't work, so they made a 2nd prototype, and by the pictures, the 2nd prototype looks smaller than an L85 and would actually work.
brother... that is a polymer slab
Yeah, I see no gun here...
King Armamzes:
You mean "le slab polymér"?
UNRIGGED UNTEXTURED PLOYMER BRICK!
It was much too big to be called a rifle. Massive, thick, heavy and far too rough. Indeed it was more like a heap of raw polymer.

As a french man myself, i am not proud of this
The biggest tragedy of airburst grenade launchers is that they were actually effective and soldiers loved them. They just got removed for a technicality in the Geneva convention.
HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON OLD MAN? IT WASN'T CANCELED BECAUSE THE 1868 Saint Petersburg Declaration, IF THAT WAS TRUE THEN WE WOULDN'T HAVE THE 40MM GRENADE LAUNCHER SYSTEMS AND VARIOUS POPULAR VEHICLE MOUNTED AUTOCANNONS. IT WAS CANCELED DUE TO MELFUNCTION CONCERNS, WEIGHT, AND LIMITED AMMO A SOLDIER COULD CARRY.
Although despite it's ability to end firefights sooner and it's success on the battlefield, ultimately because it blow up in a soldier's hand in a live fire training it was cut from funding.
They didn't though. The US Mk 285 is a programable grenade that has been used with the Mk 47 AGL in a limited capacity (because the Mk 47 is being used in limited numbers). The issue is that the programmable stuff requires you to have some sort of fire control system on the launcher, cause sometimes you want the grenade to not airburst and impact instead.
This is hard to make work with a man-portable launcher. It's part of why every OICW type weapon ends up being a big brick.
The Geneva Convention doesn't regulate weapons, it talks about how POWs and Civilians are to be treated.
@@barrag3463literally every single guy that has held an OICW Prototype or looked at it says it sucks hard to use an M16 with the grenade launcher is the exact same thing with less cost and complexity
@@barrag3463 well then the Hague or something. All I remember is that the ammunition was small enough and had the potential to penetrate the body before detonation, giving it the status of an explosive bullet, which is apparently a war crime. Likewise I know the marines loved the OICWs they got. Specifically the ones that weren't weighed down by a G36 strapped to the bottom.
@@seasons1745 It isn't the same. M203 doesn't have a fire control system or linked rangefinder for programable ammunition. You either get impact or have to manually adjust the fuse (somehow, on the fly, in the field).
There's a reason why Mk 285 is used on the Mk 47 AGL and not the Mk 19 AGL.
The issue is more that while giving every man his own GL with the ability to chose the detonation conditions, while a neat idea, isn't worth the hassle. It's why the programmable ammunition persists as a concept, but the rifle/launchers (and in this case the final launcher only idea) have been shelved in favor of just trying to work the programable munitions into larger pre-existing support weapons that'd actually support the electronics (like the Mk 47, which is supposed to be an upgraded Mk 19, or some of the newer ammunition for the good old 84mm recoiless rifle) and has only really found purchase in stuff like artillery and tank guns so far.

I remember you was conflicted.
I will have to say, this would actually be a very good OICW if it got mass-produced.
How? At 0:36, there's 2 models. The top one is the 1st prototype, more of a mock-up if you will. The 2nd one is the PAPOP 2. It would weigh in approximately 6 kg (just a little bit more than a regular M4 + M203 combo) when loaded, it would be fed using regular M16 STANAG mags and it only carried 2 grenades. Despite the limitations of only having 2 grenades, unlike the XM29's 5 grenades, I actually think this would work. A quick research on Google shows how the 2nd prototype is actually very small, probably even smaller than the FAMAS itself, and it bears a striking resemblance to the TAR-21. It's also shown without that camera thingy on top, and with a regular red dot sight installed (which I think would be great, that camera screen on top looks very flimsy and prone to breaking).
It's important to say that, apparently, unlike the American OICW program, which was basically "grenades first, rifle fire later", the PAPOP was just a rifle + grenade launcher combo that could fire programmable grenades. The intended idea wasn't to use the grenade launcher as a main gun, but rather as a helpful complement to the rifle. I've come to realize that maybe, the U.S. got it all wrong, and that's why their project failed (I mean, the PAPOP failed too, but hey, at least the 2nd prototype, the one that was going to be produced, looks and probably felt way better than the clumsy-ass XM29, way more compact and less heavy than having to run around with 8/10 kg on your arms)
It looks like the mass shotgun from enter the gungeon.

another 80-90s ahh failed oicw concept for y2k soldiers
The worst part is that OICW's are cool imo, but just not practical yet.
They will be pracrical when:
Caseless munitions are close to Cased in practicality and serviceability.
The Weight issues are solved or reduced to tolerable levels.
The Ergonomics either become redundant or a lesser issue.
Those three make OICWs weapons that will only have the possibility of being a practical idea way past this century if no laserfocus on Military R&D budget is put to do that.
@@andrehashimoto8056caseless ammo already is especially with new propellant technology of today
2. OICW never will be because the amount of training you have to give a single grunt on how to use a computer with the GL ammo is ridiculously dumb
3. M16 with a M203 is the same thing minus airburst and it doesn’t suffer horrible ergonomic issues because of the fire computer and and the GL magazine
4. Why bother??? It’s just a 5,56 gun that’s twice as heavy can’t take any external attachments and sucks to handle
If there are any of these still around, I want Ian of Forgotten Weapons to do a review.
IT'S JUST A BLOCK OF PLASTIC.

The OUICW
Nobody did a combi-weapon right, be it real life or fictional universe(one example warhammer 40k, while it may look cool, it wouldn't work at all).
Isn't an assault rifle with an underbarrel grenade launcher a combi-weapon though?
@@thankstodd2794I meant the sort that two weapons are nondetachable from one another(in case of warhammer), with sort-of exception of gilboa snake, from what I've heard. The rifle w underbarrel, while it would qualify for combi-weapon moniker, they can be detached and used separately(without needing a few extra parts usually).
that gun looks like sumn a 90's sci-fi series would have for their cannon fodder during an action sequence
2 views in 1 minute. Bro really fell off.
So how many oIcw weapons are there? Like if America has one. What if Russia has 1 Who knows?
Whats the music?
i mention the thing only ONCE & mf makes a vid about it... FUCK :D
the music choice for me was very unsetteling (dunno why), good job
aside the jokes and whatnot. i think the multi-gun concept like OICW will never die till they'll eventually make a practical gun
You'd think people would learn that we are NOWHERE near close enough to where weapons like the OICW is needed.
Shitty OICW clone programs like this one are the reason i firmly believe that warhammer 40ks boltgun munitions are going to become a real thing in the future since they are basically hybrid gyrojet rocket ammo only with a conventional cartridge to act as a kick charge and ignition system for the rocket.
The kick charge being necessary to solve the real life gyrojets problem of lacking enough velocity to be lethal at point blank ranges.
but yea i see something like that being alot more viable and tactically flexible than these OICWs which are over complicated poorly thought out combi guns in reality.
Boltgun type weapons have the added advantage of having specialized ammo for specialized purposes just like modern day shotgun shells do only you have more options to play with like say explosive warheads with proximity fuses for air burst capabilities or even miniature HE AP dum dum style rounds for maximum and dare i say out right inhumane damage to the target.
Hell im pretty sure the Geneva Suggestions would throw a hissy fit if any country actually made something like that as it would make banned ww2 exploding ammo like B Petrone look like tiny firecrackers by comparison.
They say everything in Japan is cool
But they are forgetting, everything in french is B...A...D...

this french gun probably looks about half as ugly as the frenchman that designed it
It seems like the only OICW that succeeded was the LeMat Revolver

...that's cardboard
No way this shit is real
Every time i see vid about oicw, it really makes me think of the dc-17 (clone commando from star wars).
I will now proceed to throw wall of text, consider yourself warned.
I think the concept of a gun that can juggle with multiple role is fascinating like a multirole fighter. Of course it wont do a role really well, but the versatility really helps. Therefore, i would really want to see this concept put on media. My idea for weapon such as the dc-17 (interchangeable weapon Systems) in this modern age would be a dmr that can fire full auto (some m14 variant) or a highly accurate auto rifle (m27 iar, fg42 and such) with rifle grenade capable. An auto rifle or full-auto dmr is for close quarter battle like the default mode of the dc17, the dmr is already good at sniping, but highly accurate auto rifle can make a good substitute. The rifle grenade is to provide anti armor capability and adaptability while limited added weight of a grenade launcher and also provide more grenade type (why need a big ass grenade launcher when you can do the same with less). The sks from Yugoslavia (forgot the name) really came close.
Would OICW ever be practical?
no
@@BoopleSnoot-u5b ok
South Korea's K11 is one example. However it only lasted a few years in service and lacked an enemy to even use against.
@@munanchoinc how about the North Korea's knockoff?
Maybe if the weight problem is resolved but I think by the time we (as in "humanity") come up with grenades and grenade launchers light enough to counter this problem, OICW concept would be outdated. Maybe if the military adopt exoskeletons this concept might work, but it depends on what armor enemy infantry will use - maybe the rifle part of OICW would have to be way more heavy and thus such weapon would still be too heavy and not effective enough compared to more specialised alternatives in it's weight category
tl;dr
Hard to say for sure. I'd wait to see how progress will go in the future, though weapons with such broad universality usually lose to a bit more specialised ones
